 TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

It looks to be an interesting night of racing tonight.  The highlight is the 2016 Stayers Cup final which is race 6 on the programme, the 8 runners all have an each way chance so it should be a good betting race.

Race 1 and there are several chances.  I will go with Wheel Spinner down in box 2, he has been racing well over the 600m so he should be running on over the sprint.  Add in Fusaichi Kahn out in box 8, he has the pace to cross and be right up there.  Box Up 2.3.7.8.

Race 2, the Matty Payne trained Westy Bob has missed the kick at his past couple here but when on song he is very smart, so he looks the one to beat.  Aston Morris has pace and is the big danger.  Box Up 1.2.5.6.

Race 3, this is a very open affair with Alderley Reform looking to break through on his past two placings here, box 4 is a bit of a worry but he is very strong.  Venture out to the newcomer from Victoria in Half Way There, he has won 15 from 68 along with 17 placings, we have to put him in the trifecta.  Box Up 1.4.7.8.

Race 4, Scorching will start the punters elect on his recent form, he has been well supported at his last 4 outings and is drawn for a bold showing.  I like Nissan Bale for value from box 1, he isn’t the quickest but is ultra consistent.  Box up 1.2.5.7.

Race 5, I have been tipping him in recent weeks and that is Lisheen in box 5, he can be hit and miss on box rise but he appears well suited in this.  Vanger Bale is drawn for a bold showing down in box 1 for Wendy Matcott.  His wins are few and far between.  He might get on a roll now he has finally broken through.  Box Up 1.2.4.5.

Race 6 is the distance final and we will go with last weeks winner in Parsec Bale.  He camped on them early and proved far too strong with a 6L win in 43.43.  On that effort he should win again.  The main danger would be his kennel mate Bradley Bale out in box 6, he rallied late to get up and score in 43.70.  Box Up 3.4.6.7.

Race 7 and Worm Burner is in fine form with 3 wins on the trot here all in slick times so he is our best bet of the night again.  Kalispell loves box 1 and will be there for a long way.  Zana Bale could be our value runner for the Trifecta and First 4 down on the fence.  Box Up 1.2.4.8.

Race 8 the FFA of the evening and the book ends are the major contenders.  Gun McBain and Coorong Kid both have different racing styles so it will be interesting in the run to the 1st turn, Temalor can get an early sit and can run into the money. Box Up 1.3.4.8.

Race 9 and this is another distance event and the well performed Springvale Bryne flew late over the sprint here last start to run a very good 2nd in 30.03 in tough conditions.  Tonight she is back up to her pet trip over the 731m and looks the measuring stick.  Go You Girl down in box 1 had been in good form but found a heap of trouble here last week, she is more than capable of bouncing back.  Box Up 1.2.5.8.

Race 10 and Tony Rasmussen always has a handy one in his kennel and he looks to have a smart one in Sea Wind.  The former Victorian charged home to win in 29.79 and in this grade should take a power of beating again.  Velocity Tina is knocking on the door and is a must for the top 3.  Box Up 1.3.4.8.

Race 11 and The Petar Jovanovic kennel can go home on a winner with Rita’s Kabin.  She was run down here last start but should strip fitter.  Aston Claude is pacey and box 1 enhances his chance in an open event.  Box Up 1.3.4.7.

STAYERS CUP FINAL TONIGHT

The feature on tonight’s Angle Park program is no doubt the $7,000 Stayer’s Cup final where the Wendy Matcott trained duo of Parsec Bale and Bradley Bale look hardest to beat after they both won heats last week. TEAM ROPER TAKES OUT THE AUCTION FINAL

A cold and windy night greeted the finalists for the AGRC/GRSA Auction Final last week at Angle Park however the main event lacked no fire with Team Roper for trainer Alan McCulloch scoring a strong victory. The son of Fabregas and Allinga Aye Jay was well supported in the market running past leader Aston Asteroid for Ray Murray and holding off a late finishing burst from Springvale Bryne trained by Gavin Harris. He rated a solid 30.03 for the 515m journey and continues to give connections plenty of highlights.

The race was for greyhounds bought through the 2014 Auction held at Angle Park.

There will be another series to be run in July over 515m on a Wednesday 13th July for $1,025 heats and then the final on Thursday 21st July worth $5,000.

PATHWAY RACING UPDATE

In January 2016, Greyhound Racing SA (GRSA) introduced the Pathway Racing concept, which aims to provide regular and ongoing racing opportunities for lower class and out of form greyhounds. Whilst the initial stages of the trial appeared very successful, the transition to a flattened stakemoney structure has not been as well received by participants as anticipated. In response to this decline in support, GRSA will implement a new stakemoney structure (refer table below), slightly alter the way races are selected and extend the trial period of the Pathway Racing concept to 31st July, 2016 when a full review will take place.

Another important change that participants should be aware of, is that the Grader will now draw all eligible greyhounds into Pathway races, unless ‘NO PATHWAY’ is stipulated on the nominations. As such, participants should be diligent when nominating for meetings where Pathway races have been advertised.

These changes will be effective from the Angle Park meeting on Wednesday 8th June. Nominations close on Friday 3rd June.

SUMMARY OF CHANGES – effective Friday 3rd June 2016

  • Increased stakemoney allocation for first place
  • Greyhounds will be included in Pathway Races if eligible (unless ‘NO PATHWAY’ on nomination)
  • Selection of races – greater emphasis on one trainer per race and worst to best form with SA Bred preferences included
  • Trial period extended to 31st July 2016

STAKEMONEY SCHEDULE (As of 1/6/16)

ELIGIBILITY TO COMPLETE

·         Pathway Racing events will only be for Maiden, Grade 6 and Grade 5 greyhounds at the track

·         Greyhounds must have started in South Australia on four occassions to be eligible for these races (First starters and greyhounds with one, two or three starts will not be considered for these events)

·         Greyhounds must not have run faster than the below time standards at their past four starts:

  ·      Pathway Racing aims to ensure maximum participation, therefore the Grader will endeavour to include all trainers entering at least one greyhound, prior to including multiple greyhounds from the same trainer

·         Fields will be selected worst form to best form in the opinion of the Grader. The Order of Preference is not be used for Pathway Racing

·         Grade 6 and Grade 5 Pathway races will carry no penalty however where Grade 6 greyhounds compete in Grade 5 events and are successful they will become a Grade 5 at the track and ineligible for Grade 6 events at the track. (Normal rules apply for Maiden events)

·         Races will be graded on race wins where possible

·         Guarding will occur where possible

·         Pathway Racing to be run at Angle Park Wednesday meetings and Gawler Sunday meetings along with Mt Gambier.

NOMINATING FOR PATHWAY RACES

All eligible greyhounds will be drawn into Pathway races unless ‘NO PATHWAY’ has been stipulated on the nomination.
