TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

It certainly looks an interesting programme with the 11 events all looking even so if anything, it makes for a terrific night for the trifecta punters. The highlight of the night is the 2017 Brian Johnstone Group 3 final which is race 8 and has a massive $25,000 to the winner and this appears a wide-open affair. The open event which is race 7 on the card is one not to be missed as there are 4 last start winners over the sprint trying to collect the bickies. We will need to get on our front foot early as to try and build the bank as we enter the month of December. Remember the $10,000 guaranteed trifecta for race 1 tonight which is always worth having a crack at!

Race 1 - My old favourite Molly Dobbs can kick start our night out in box 6, she was checked early here last start and battled on well to run into the placings from this draw so we will put her on top. Add in the well-drawn Dyna Keitaro down in box 1 as he will be working home late along with Hurucan from his rails draw. Box Up 1.2.4.6.

Race 2 - I like the inside 3 here, if you have been following me in recent weeks I have been tipping Buddy’s Entity at handy odds but he is yet to break through. However I think tonight could be the night as he was very unlucky here last start when railing hard down the back and was checked and lost momentum. Spring Irish and Skipper McLaren are more than capable with early luck as is the pacey Thermal Strike. Box Up 1.2.3.5.

Race 3 - Spring Bloom was an enormous run at Strathalbyn last Sunday when winning the Cup Final and on her past 2 efforts will be very hard to beat again so we will make her our top pick. Tyla Grace has early pace and can’t be overlooked for our first four and Lepa Nada and Rock Away can run cheeky races. Box Up 3.6.7.8.

Race 4 - Interesting event this one as Tag and Release should start the punters elect on his last start 2nd here in 30.14 after being run down in the final stages from this draw, he has a good turn of early pace and might be able to pinch this with an ounce of luck. Mighty Barcia has his paw on the till and has finally drawn the rails and will give this plenty of cheek. Add in Fox Gambler for value. Box Up 1.4.5.8

Race 5 - This is the 600m event of the night and we will go with McLaren Missile who loves this trip, he rattled home to run a very good 2nd behind Windmill Haze here last start and has been in the money at his last 4 runs. Brick Lane should set the early pace and has been racing well at Gawler and Strathalbyn. Box Up 1.4.5.7.

Race 6 - Alpha Alexander is very quick early and will be right in the finish. Throw in Chief Bale and Tommy’s Tune for value in what now looks an open race with High Eden Snow being scratched. Box Up 2.3.6.8.

Race 7 - The Jovanovic kennel has Cairnlea Kenny flying of late and with 3 wins on the trot here at headquarters and he looks the measuring stick once again from his draw of 3. High Eden Frost continues to be a bridesmaid but is knocking on the door and can’t be left out of calculations. Pyredos Monelli and Windmill Haze look the first four chances. Box Up 2.3.6.8.

Race 8 - This is the Group 3 final and as mention before it has a more than handy $25,000 to the winner on offer and we will go with the Karen Wittholz trained Baa Man out in box 7, he has won 3 of his last 4 starts here all in good fashion and is the form runner in this. Libby Raider flew home to win here last start from a rail draw and we can expect her to run a bold race once again. Box Up 1.2.6.7.

Race 9 - I love distance racing and Angela Modra has Sutton Steele in terrific form of late and there is no reason why he can’t win here again from box 1. He has early pace and should prove far too good. Long Gully Gilly loves to fill a place and should get a lovely run. Box Up 1.2.6.8.

Race 10 - The Troy Murray kennel has a newcomer from Victoria in Zellman and looks to have handy form around the traps, he has 3 wins and 7 placings from his 14 career starts and is sure to be well tried on his South Australian debut. The well-travelled Emily As will be at big odds and she will be rattling home late. Box Up 1.2.5.7.

Race 11 - Its always nice to go home on a winner and the Kevin Murnane trained Matriculate can do that for us, she has a good turn of early pace and might be able to pinch this with early luck. Tigers Empire is our value runner, his wins are few and far between but he can run the Quinella for the kennel. Add in Addison’s Way who just needs to be handy early to have a big say in the finish. Box Up 2.3.4.5.

GUN MCBAIN RETIRES FROM THE TRACK AND IS NOW SET FOR A STUD CAREER

South Australia’s Iron Dog Gun McBain went out on a winning note a few weeks ago to embark on a stud career when he was successful at Angle Park over the 388m in his last race start. Owned and trained by Raye Kelly the son of Spring Gun and Flame McBain has been a permanent fixture on the SA racing scene since his debut on the 2nd April 2014 at headquarters, not surprisingly with a win.  He leaves the race track with a few titles to his name in his 168 race starts which included 68 wins (40%) and 55 placings and prizemoney in excess of $160,000. He holds the Angle Park record of most wins at the venue of 53 and also holds the National record of most TAB wins in Australia of any greyhound at 68. Feature wins on the track were the 2014 Champion Puppy Final, the 2015 Group 3 Gawler Cup Final and 2017 John Gray Final. We wish Gun McBain all the best in retirement and also with the next phase of his career in the breeding barn.

COMPLETION OF PAPERWORK

Participants are reminded of their obligation to ensure that when lodging paperwork that it is fully completed and payment is made at the time of lodgement.  GRSA is here to assist should you be unsure of how to complete any paperwork however it is not our responsibility to arrange for its completion, nor is it our responsibility to ensure that it is lodged.  Therefore, please ensure when lodging any paperwork eg, Transfer of Ownerships, Litter Registrations etc that they are fully completed and paid for and lodged within a timely manner.

ONLINE & PHONE BOOKINGS OF TRIALS FOR ANGLE PARK AND GAWLER  FROM 11.30AM

GRSA received feedback in regard to the Online Trial booking process for both Gawler Wednesday and Angle Park Tuesday and Saturday trial sessions.  This process of online bookings is fully supported by the ICG and GRSA Board and will continue to grow over time.
• To encourage the move from 100% phone bookings to online GRSA made the decision to separate the booking times from 12.30pm, to 11.30am for online and 12.30pm for phone. This has worked successfully and reduced the number of phone calls dramatically. This encourages participants to manage their own bookings.  However GRSA believes that the separation is now no longer required so both online and phone bookings will now be at 11.30am for trial sessions.  It was decided to go to 11.30am due to the commitment participants have made to the online process and worked their schedule around this time being at home or near their device to book.
Whilst having the bookings at the same time the trial booking phone line will still be 08 8243 7172. No trials will be accepted on any other phone line; participants will be queued as normal and will not be taken before 11.30am. Our staff member will attempt to book your phone trials in a timely manner bearing in mind participants will be booking online at the same time. I would encourage all participants to move to the online process as this is quicker, easier and they can have the flexibility to manage the process themselves.
• It is important for all participants to realise that at any point from 11.30am when the trials open to around 3.30pm the day of the trial session (or day before for Saturday) they can log on or ring up and manage their bookings. They may be able to move earlier or later if there has been a cancellation etc, it really does provide an option if their time is unsuitable.

NOTIFICATION OF TRAINING AMENDMENT & CLEARANCE OF GREYHOUNDS

Trainers are reminded of their obligation to notify GRSA within 3 working days of a greyhound coming into or leaving their kennel (Rule 105(4)(i)).  This is a requirement for all greyhounds regardless of where bred.  We have had a number of trainers recently put in training amendments late the night prior to nominations closing at 9am the following day, this practice can lead to your nomination not being accepted or being unable to nominate online should any issues arise the following morning.
Trainers are also leaving it to the night before nominations close to have greyhounds “checked off”.  This practice can also lead to your nomination not being accepted or being unable to nominate online should any issues arise. It is therefore in the trainer’s best interest to have lodged with GRSA the training amendment and clearance of the greyhound a number of days prior to wishing to nominate the greyhound.  It is not GRSA’s responsibility to ensure that the paperwork is processed within ½ hour, which is the amount of time available to have it processed before nominations close at 9am.

TRIAL DATES FOR STRATHALBYN

All bookings for normal trials will be taken by the Club. As they do on Wednesday nights they will now also take the bookings for Friday nights. You can book trials via text MSG / or call Yvonne King at the Club on 0407 334 349 between 9am and 11am on the day of the trials.  All qualifying trials will need to be booked through GRSA as per normal by 12.30pm on the day of the Qualy trials. GRSA thanks the support of Yvonne and the Strathalbyn GRC in regard to these changes.
The following dates are for the next trial sessions at Strathalbyn -
Wednesday 6th December
Wednesday 13th December (Qualfying Trials)
Wednesday 20th December
