TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

As the racing starts to hot up here at headquarters tonight, we have two very smart heats of the UBET State National Sprint heats which are races 3 and 4 on the programme. There looks to be several chances in the opening heat with a lot of early pace. On Fire can bounce back in the other heat. Race 6 is the Distance affair and we see the return of Bogie Bekim for the Rawlings kennel, he hasn’t raced since mid-May but trialled here in quick time over the 600m in preparation for the series.

Race 1 - This is a handy event to kick the night off with, Windmill Haze won from this draw 5 starts ago in good fashion and appears one of the main chances. Zipping Gator will be charging home late and is a must for trifecta punters. Stack The Aces has been hit and miss of late but is capable of surprising. Box Up 1.3.6.8.

Race 2 - John Mundy has a handy one in Dashing Day, he should be able to kick up along the fence and looks the one to beat. Keno Bale wins are far and few between but he loves to fill a place and is in the flying Rasmussen kennel. Box Up 2.3.5.6.

Race 3 and the first of the Sprint heats, High Eden Frost led throughout here last week and defeated the short price favourite in On Fire and carved out a slick 29.71, on that effort, he will take a power of beating again. Aston Kody made short work of them when winning here in 29.79 last start and he has terrific box manners and will be in the mix. Box Up 1.2.5.7.

Race 4 - On Fire tasted defeat after a string of 13 consecutive wins here last week but was gallant when 2nd behind High Eden Frost in quick time, he can bounce back and looks a good thing. Cairnlea Kenny can be hit and miss early but is very strong, add Dyna Keitaro who will be working home late. Box Up 1.2.7.8.

Race 5 - This is a wide-open affair with at least 4 main chances. Bella Trix is very smart when on song and she won from this draw two runs back. Sally’s Girl has been in terrific form of late and has won her last 3 all from wide draws. Add in the pacey Greysynd Gem who hasn’t missed a cheque here in 5 starts and we are in for a terrific. Box Up 2.5.6.7.

Race 6 - This is the Distance affair and as mentioned before it’s very hard to go past Bogie Bekim out in box 8, he is resuming but has a terrific strike rate at this venue. Purpose Driven is another who is racing well and she proved too strong in the run home here last start when defeating Springvale Bryne. Box Up 1.3.4.8.

Race 7 - There looks to be two main chances in Spring Bloom and Jacqui Blax, both have a good turn of early pace but I will go with the later as she has the form on the board here at headquarters. Prancer Dancer is racing well and is a must for the trifecta. Box Up all the evens 2.4.6.8.

Race 8 - Signal Peak has been knocking on the door in recent runs and looks primed to win this event he will finds this a lot easier than his past couple and is my top pick from his draw of 2. Buzz Box is drawn for a bold showing and should be right in the finish, my value runner is Molly Dobbs who is resuming from injury. Box Up 1.2.3.6.

Race 9 - Let’s hope we are in front as this is a toughie, this looks to be a good first four event as there are a heap of chances but if I was to select one it would be Barossa Kid who was run down here last week by Whispering Soul in the final stages. Box Up 2.3.5.6.

Race 10 and we can go home on a winner with Luca Bazooka at handy odds, he has won his past 3 here and charged home from well back in the field when he was a favourite here last week to get up over Long Gully Helen. Add in Demon Premier who is more than capable when out in front.  Box Up 1.6.7.8.

UBET SA NATIONAL STATE HEATS

Tonight we see the running of the SA heats for the UBET Nationals Series. From the original nominations, GRSA was left with 13 greyhounds for the Sprint Series and 7 for the Distance.  There are 2 Heats of the Sprint Series and 1 Heat for the Distance.

UBET will be offering fixed odds markets on all heats to be run tonight.

A high quality field lines up in the SA Distance series which features Bogie Bekim, Purpose Driven, Caprice Monelli and Springvale Bryne. As there is only one heat all the runners will progress through to next Thursday nights State Final.

In the Sprint Series, the main chances look to be High Eden Frost and Aston Kody from heat 1 while in heat 2 On Fire does battle with Cairnlea Kenny. The first four from each heat will qualify for next weeks State Final in what looks a high quality series.

The box draws for the UBET State Finals will be conducted on track tonight, following the Heats. The Sprint draw will take place after race 5 and the Distance draw will be conducted after race 7.

WORM BURNER LOOKING TO REPRESENT VICTORIA AT THE NATIONALS

SA’s Group 1 National Sprint winning hero Worm Burner from last year will attempt to qualify in the heats for Victoria tonight.

The superstar sprinter now in the care of Seona Thompson due to domiciliary clauses is eligible for Victoria even though he is still SA Owned and Bred. He has drawn box 5 in race 8 tonight at Sandown with the first 4 from each heat qualifying for the Victorian State final. Wouldn’t it be something if Worm Burner could be one of the first greyhounds to represent two states at the National finals, let alone take out back to back Group 1 finals.

ANGLE PARK CAR PARK ENTRY POINT

GRSA apologies for any inconvenience tonight.

GROUP 3 DARWIN CUP FINAL ON SUNDAY NIGHT WITH SA FLAVOUR

The $25,000 to the winner Group 3 Darwin Cup will be run on Sunday night with Tony Rasmussen having a strong hand in the final.

Leading local trainer Rasmussen sent both Zipping Zeus and Striker Klinsman up to the top end last week for the heats and they didn’t disappoint. Striker Klinsman won his heat in impressive fashion while Zipping Zeus should be improved by his strong second to Group 1 performer Invictus Rapid who just ran him down in the shadows of the post. On Sunday night Zipping Zeus has drawn perfectly in box 1 while Striker Klinsman comes out of the 4 and should get a good run across. We wish the connections the best of luck in the top end on Sunday night.
