Angle Park Racing Preview - 3.11.16
by The Shadow
After a tough week on the punt let’s hope we can bounce back tonight. The programme looks pretty even again so we might be able to pinch a couple of trifectas. The highlights would have to be race 4 the 600m event and the Doug Payne FFA for SA bred greyhounds. Don’t forget all races are trifectas and first 4’s. Good Luck.
Race 1 and there is a bit of early pace in this and that might set it up for Caustic Bale who will be swooping home over the top of them. The likely leaders look to be Optic Blast and Black Bottle but they would need to be a long way in front down the back. Box Up 4.6.7.8
Race 2, there is a youngster here who has won 4 from 4 and that is High Eden Snow, he has a good turn of pace and should figure again on recent form. Long Gully Gilly is very strong and is a must for trifecta punters as is Enemy Mine down on the rails. Box Up 1.3.4.5.
Race 3, the Don Turner kennel has been in good form of late and his sprinter in Another Mai was a handy winner here last start from box 1. She should be handy early and be right in the finish. Show Me dollars is the big danger as she has good box manners. Box Up 2.3.4.8.
Race 4, this is an outstanding 600m event with several chances, but it’s hard to go past Eduardo from box 2. He has a hatrick of wins here over this trip and is a flying machine when out in front. Allen Mondo will be rattling home over the top and shouldn’t miss a place. Box Up the inside four 1.2.3.4.
Race 5, good even race here and there are a heaps of chances. I liked Hesa Jayclo here last week but he missed the start before making late ground to finish 5th. Rockstar Lisa gets her chance to bounce back and is a cheeky chance at each way odds. Box Up 1.3.7.8.
Race 6, the Doug Payne SA Bred Feature has 6 quality performers who all have a chance on claiming the $6,000 to the winner’s prize. Marlow Brown is due to win a big one as he was a runner up again in last Sundays Gawler Cup Final. He can give this a big shake again. Fabregal has returned to form including her last start Gawler Cup win and will be trying to cross them early. Keep an eye out for Texas Titan who might get the early sit and the small field is a bonus. Box Up 1.2.7.8.
Race 7, the inside 3 look the main chances in this. Splish Splashin’ has been run down here at her past couple but should find this more to her liking. Allen Jersey has handy 600m form and is a chance with an ounce of luck early, add in Junner Bale who has been struggling of late but is a lot better than recent form suggests. Box Up 1.2.3.8
Race 8, Ben Rawlings rarely goes home without a winner and Dyna Keitaro is drawn for a bold showing in this. He won here from this draw 4 runs back in 29.95 and should get the early sit behind the pacey Crisis Bale. Ruff State is always a chance and is a must for the pick 4. Box Up 1.2.6.7.
Race 9, the Distance affair of the night and it’s very hard to go past Parsec Bale, she should possie up tonight and prove far too strong in the run home. Go You Girl loves this draw and will run into the placings again. Box Up 4.5.7.8
Race 10, Roxy Rolla jumped straight to the front here last start and carved out a handy 30.02 win, winning by over 8L. She gets the nod again for mine. Precious Parker is more than handy and can’t be over looked. Add in the pacey Gnasher who was my roughie here last week and ran 2nd for the trifecta. Box Up 2.4.5.7.
Race 11 and Bogie Bekim could top off a good night for the Ben Rawlings kennel. He has only had the two runs here in South Australia n the Gawler Cup series and wasn’t disgraced. He is right back in grade tonight and is well worth a wager. Calendar Girl is very smart and is boxed for a bold showing. Box Up 2.6.7.8.

DOUG PAYNE SA BRED FEATURE TONIGHT

Recent Group 3 Gawler Cup winner Fabregal and 2nd placegetter Marlow Brown head the list of outstanding runners along with last years Group 1 Adelaide Cup placegetter Lachlan Brown. Not to forget Mrs Bubbles who qualified for this years Group 1 Adelaide Cup final and Group 3 Howard Ashton winner Wilba Beast. Texas Titan rounds out the 6 and he was dominant in the recent Gawler Stayers Cup final. What a race it promises to be!!!!
The race is worth $8,640 to be run as race 6 at 8.24pm (SA time) and is a Non Penalty FFA Event.
Good Luck to all contestants tonight in one of the feature races for SA Bred greyhounds.

WORM BURNER AIMING FOR SHOOTOUT GLORY AT SANDOWN TOMORROW NIGHT
Local star Worm Burner will be aiming for one of Australia’s most sought after and talked about races, the $50,000 winner-takes-all group 2 Shootout. The race brings together four of Australia’s fastest greyhounds in Australia’s Speed Championship! We wish Cameron Butcher and the “Worm” the best of luck tomorrow night.
1.DUNDEE OSPREY
Trainer – Geoff Scott-Smith
Record – 34 starts 14-3-5
Prizemoney – $345,260
Comment – “He is the country’s top sprinter at the moment. His win in the Topgun was outstanding and he’s probably better suited to Sandown Park where his average winning times in his six wins over the 515m at Sandown is 29.24, having never won in slower time than 29.31. He’s already won the group 1 Harrison-Dawson and the Speed Star at the track.”
3.OUTSIDE PASS
Trainer – Tony Apap
Record – 33 starts 14-5-2
Prizemoney – $114,273
Comment – “Queensland’s best sprinter. She trialled in 29.10 ahead of the Bill Collins Speed Star before running second in the final. She recorded a number of fast wins at her home track Albion Park through the winter before having a freshen up after running 5th in the National Sprint Championship. Her win in last week’s Melbourne Cup Prelude was very impressive and showed she’s back to her brilliant best.”
5.ZAMBORA BROCKIE
Trainer – Anthony Azzopardi
Record – 43 starts 26-4-5
Prizemoney – $369,133
Comment – “He had been a little disappointing in his runs at Sandown until he finally broke through with a dazzling 29.14 win in July. After a recent break of four weeks, he’ll come into the Shootout with two runs under his belt and approaching peak fitness and as he’s shown throughout 2016, at his best he’s as fast as any greyhound in the country.”
7.WORM BURNER
Trainer – Cameron Butcher
Record – 52 starts 33-8-4
Prizemoney – $204,225
Comment – “The National Champion and pride of South Australian greyhound racing. His 29.17 in that final was the fifth fastest time ever recorded at Angle Park, and while he has never raced at Sandown Park, his racing pattern certainly suggest he should be suited by the track and format.”
EXTRA RACE MEETINGS FOR ANGLE PARK
After GRSA had already moved some meetings to accommodate the Gawler Lure and Rail system upgrade resulting in Gawler not racing for the first 3 weeks of November we added extra meetings at Angle Park in support of participation.
Taking into account the Sky Racing schedule, staffing issues, track maintenance and budget requirements the added racing dates are listed below -
Add – Angle Park Day Friday 4th November (Mount Gambier GRC also race on this day)
Add – Angle Park Day Wednesday 9th November (Mount Gambier GRC also race on this day)
These extra meetings at Angle Park will provide added racing opportunities to participants on a consistent basis where they don’t have the opportunity to trial or race at Gawler during this period. GRSA thanks the support of Sky Racing to approve these racing dates during this period.
RACING AT ANGLE PARK WHILE GAWLER IS CLOSED
While Gawler is closed down and with added racing for Angle Park GRSA want to make sure trainers are aware which extra meetings will be run as either Catching Pen or Finish On Lure.
If the meetings have been added as an extra meeting for Angle Park then they will be run as a Catching Pen meeting. If they were a replacement for a Gawler meeting then they will be run as a Finish On Lure meeting. This remains consistent with GRSA policy. Listed below are the dates affected -
- Angle Park Friday 4th November – Catching Pen
- Angle Park Tuesday 8th November – Finish On Lure
- Angle Park Wednesday 9th November – Catching Pen
- Angle Park Friday 11th November - Finish On Lure
- Angle Park Tuesday 15th November – Finish On Lure
- Angle Park Wednesday 16th November – Catching Pen
- Angle Park Friday 18th November – Finish On Lure
TRIALLING WHILE GAWLER IS CLOSED
There will be NO trials at Gawler on Wednesday night and Thursday morning while the venue is closed for the upgrade of the lure system. As a replacement Angle Park will also trial on Thursday morning starting at 7.00am during this period. These trials will be FOL only.
Trials will be conducted at Angle Park on Tuesday nights, Thursday morning and Saturday morning during this time. With the extra racing planned this should hopefully accommodate trainer’s requirements.
Qualifying trials will be conducted every Tuesday night while Gawler is closed. Trainers can qualify for Monday night or Tuesday meetings at Angle Park however they must be specific on which day they are trialling for on their nomination form.
EMERLEY PARK TO TRIAL ON FRIDAYS WHEN ANGLE PARK RACES
GRSA will conduct trials at Emerley Park on Fridays when we are racing at Angle Park during the period while Gawler is shut down. The trials will start at 7.00am and must finish at 9.30am allowing staff sufficient time to travel to Angel Park for the race meeting. There will be trialling there tomorrow on the straight track only.
NO TRIALS AT EMERLEY PARK THIS MONDAY
There was an issue last Monday at Emerley Park on the circle track where there was a mechanical issue with the Pully’s resulting in the trials being cancelled. Pully’s have been ordered by the Club however they are still a week away from being implemented so there will be NO trials this Monday (7/11).
NO TRIALS AT MOUNT GAMBIER THIS SATURDAY
The Mt Gambier GRC has informed there will be NO trials at Mt Gambier this Saturday due to staffing issues.
GOTBA COURSING AWARDS NIGHT ON 10TH NOVEMBER
The GOTBA will present their Annual Awards at Angle Park on Thursday 10th November. To be presented will be the SA Coursing Greyhound of the Year (Dakota Rose for trainer Cosimo Lopresto) and the Coursing Trainer of the Year (Ray Fewings) for the second year in a row. Also featuring on the night will be a Free For All event for greyhounds which competed at Virginia during 2016. This race will be graded on circle form. The race is supported by the GOTBA and carries prizemoney of $4,590.
Nominations close with GRSA at 9.00am on Monday 7th November
$10,000 STRATHALBYN CUP ON NOVEMBER 13 & 20

ANNUAL GRADING REVIEW MEETING – NOVEMBER 11
The consultation sessions at the Clubs have been completed with good responses from all venues.
Based on all the information collected an agenda will be formulated and sent to the Grading Review Panel to be discussed at the review.
HOT WEATHER POLICY
A reminder to trainers with the hot weather coming to make sure they are aware of the updated conditions relating to the Hot Weather Policy. This policy is available on the GRSA website and also at the track.
AGRC MEMBERS LUCKY DOG DRAW
Reminder on how it works, each year we have drawn 4 names for each week’s Thursday APK race 8, next to each name is the box number of the dog you have drawn in Race 8. If your box number happens to win Race 8, you can renew your membership next year (30th June) for half price. We have drawn 8 names for the Xmas function night so we will have at least one happy member on that night.
If you happen to own or train greyhounds racing on the date that your name has been drawn, you can choose to have your dogs drawn instead of the lucky box number and it works the same if your dog drawn happens to win. It is up to you to notify an AGRC committee member on the night that you want to take up this option and we will randomly draw one of your dogs competing on the night.
AGRC Committee members are Alan Amezdroz, Barry Stewart, Petar Jovanovic, Melissa Trowbridge, Gabe Vistolli and Gavin Harris.
2017 GAWLER PRODUCE STAKES
The 2017 Gawler Produce Stakes will be run by GRSA in conjunction with the Gawler Greyhound Racing Club. Once again we will offer guaranteed Final Stakemoney, which will be $22,000. The estimate for the total series prizemoney is $40,000, based on this year’s series. The series is for greyhounds whelped in 2015.
In 2017 we will again be offering additional incentives for trainers to nominate. A bonus will be offered to any greyhound which can win both the Produce Stake and the Gawler Gold Cup.
The jackpot is currently worth $13,000. A jackpot of $1,000 will be added each year until won, when it will revert to $5,000. Fabregal will be shooting for the jackpot if she can win the Gawler Cup final on Sunday 30th October.
The SA Bred bonus will also be continued; should the winner of the Final be SA bred, there will be a SA Bred bonus of $1,000 to the owner.
The dates for this series will be Heats on Tuesday 27th June 2017, Semi Finals on Tuesday 4th July 2017 and the Final on Sunday 9th July 2017. There will be a breeders bonus of $500 for the winner of the Final and a consolation event also.
GRSA administers the event for the Club, so all payments are to be made to GRSA. The fees are, with the one-off payment option $121.00 or the sustaining option at $33 (first), $55 (second) and $88 (Final).
Nomination Forms are now available, along with the full list of conditions and the payment schedule. We have sent out forms to those with eligible greyhounds as well as previous supporters of the race.
* Nominations for the 2017 Gawler Produce will close on Friday 18th November with GRSA.
