Angle Park Racing Preview - 29.6.17
by The Shadow
It's the Final night for the 2017 Stayers Cup with the final race 8 on the program and it's a wide-open affair which makes for a terrific betting race with over $4,000 to the winner. It is definitely a must for all trifecta and first four punters to have a crack at this event! The kennels to follow tonight for mine are Yvonne King and the Rasmussen teams who both look to have several chances throughout the night.
Race 1 we have been kicking off with a winner here in recent weeks and it should be no different tonight, I like the pacey Allinga Val down in box 1 she should be able to kick up early and prove too strong. Mepunga Georgia can be hit and miss but will be working home late. Box up 1.2.3.6.
Race 2 - There looks to be several chances in this but I will go with the Lauren Harris trained sprinter in Jeannie Shiraz who is stepping up over the 515m, she might be able to skip away and pinch this. Springvale Hope will be charging home and should start the punters elect, add in Snow Avalanche for the trifecta. Box Up 1.2.6.7.
Race 3 - The pink runner in Aitch is the inform runner, he has won his last 3 all in good fashion and is boxed for a bold showing again. Forlano was a last start winner from this draw and looks the main danger, add Stick Figure for value. Box Up 3.5.7.8.
Race 4 - He is going for 10 in a row and that is On Fire, the small field will play right into his paws and he wins again, the minors should come from Cairnlea Kenny who has been runner up to On Fire at his last 3 and the pacey Marlow Brown. 6 from 1.2.4.
Race 5 - This is the 600m event of the night and a wide open one at that. The Troy Murray trained Bamba Lam Barney has handy Victorian form prior to arriving here in SA and looks well drawn. Hesa Jayclo loves this trip and is sure to be right in the finish. Box Up 1.2.4.8.
Race 6 - We tipped him last week and he saluted the judge for us and that was Buzz Box, he is drawn well again and will be very hard to beat again. Funky Monkey can be hit and miss on lid rise but is very strong in the run home, add the pacey Aston Ah Chee for the trifecta. Box Up 1.2.3.7.
Race 7 - I like the inside 3 here starting with Uinka Allen, she was a 1st up winner here in 30.20 from Victoria and will only improve. Long Gully Gilly has pace and can figure, add Zipping Gator as our value runner who is a lot better than form suggest. Box Up 1.2.3.5.
Race 8 - This is the Stayers Cup Final and there is a lot of pace in the early part, Zipping Zeus was strong to the line here last week and should be able to cross and lead from his draw of 4. Purpose Driven ran on well to score and is in the powerful Cameron Butcher kennel. We also can’t leave out the Gavin Harris trained Springvale Bryne who is a rising 4-year-old but loves the trip and can run a cheeky race again. Box Up 3.4.6.7.
Race 9 - Gavin Harris has a handy one with Springvale Carla out in box 7, her best form has been when closer to the fence but she is very strong and should give this a big shake. Rhynstone Teddy has a perfect record of 2 from 2 and has good field sense. Box Up 2.3.7.8.
Race 10 - Wide open affair with a bit of early speed from the wide drawn runners which include Demon Premier and Victa Ollie, both are in good form and once again should finish in the money. Blitz And Bolt is a moderate beginner who is very smart when on song and the rails draw brings him right into the mix. Box Up 2.3.5.7.
Race 11 - Heading My Way has been struggling to find form but hasn’t been that far away either in recent runs so she looks our Each Way Special for the night at handy odds from box 2. Bella Trix is very smart with a clear run early and if she is able to lead she would take beating. Box Up 2.3.5.8.
Race 12 - We can go home on a winner with Mr. reliable Regal Looper, he made good late ground here last week after striking early trouble, he can kick up from his rails draw and salute. Lizard Spock has won 2 of his last 5 here and is always a chance when drawn in close. Box Up 1.2.3.6.

STAYERS CUP FINAL TONIGHT
The feature on tonight’s Angle Park program is no doubt the $7,000 Stayer’s Cup final where heat winners Zipping Zeus for Tony Rasmussen and Purpose Driven for Cameron Butcher will be the main players as a hot field will do battle.
They clashed in the Shane McQueen over 600m earlier in the month and tonight will be their return bout. There are plenty of other contenders including Springvale Bryne, Pure Presence and Victorian visitor McIvor Verna for Peter Franklin.
Tonight’s feature is race 8 on the program due to start at 9.13pm (SA Time).
SA SUPERSTAR WORM BURNER IN HEATS
OF THE BRISBANE WINTER CUP TONIGHT
SA owned and bred superstar chaser Worm Burner return’s to the race track tonight in the heats of the Group 1 Brisbane Winter Cup.
Trained by Seona Thompson the star sprinter was last seen almost 2 months ago as he raced through open company in Victoria on his way to the Speedstar at Sandown. Unfortunately he was injured and was scratched from that series so it is terrific news to see him back, fit and rearing to go at Group 1 level. Worm Burner is engaged in the second heat of the cup (race 4) and has drawn box 6 so he should like it out a bit wide on his first look at Albion Park. There are 5 heats of the Cup so he will have to either win or be one of the three quickest 2nd place-getters to qualify. His race is at 7.10pm tonight and we wish him and connections a safe and trouble free run.
LICENCE RENEWALS ARE DUE
Please be advised that your licence renewal is due by tomorrow (Friday 30th June 2017).
Please check your licence card to confirm the expiry date.
With the date being the 30th June it is vital that you are licensed before the cut of time to ensure no greyhounds will miss a run. As an example it you are nominating for any race meeting in July you would want to have already renewed your licence to guarantee no issues.
Check with Owners locally and from Interstate as this has been an issue in recent years. Please contact the GRSA Integrity Department for queries or questions.

SA FLAVOUR IN BALLARAT CUP HEATS ON SUNDAY
This Sunday the Group 2 Ballarat Cup heats will be run and there will be plenty of interest for South Australia.
There are 8 fabulous heats with SA owned and bred Fabregal doing battle with recent Group 3 Howard Ashton winner Crunchin Numbers in heat 2 (race 3 @ 1.55pm). Crunchin Numbers is also SA owned and bred and has been sent from the kennels of Ben Rawlings to the Victorian kennels of Matt Lanigan (Zipping greyhounds).
Heat 3 (race 4 @ 2.17pm) finally see’s Don’t Kid Me draw an inside box while kennel mate Tuggeragh in heat 6 (race 9 @ 3.57pm) has also drawn the coverted red box which will give their SA connections plenty of hope.

CINDERELLA’S COMMERCIAL CLEANING GROUP CHAMPION PUPPY HEATS IN JULY
Owners & Trainers of up and coming youngsters should note that the Champion Puppy series isn’t far away.
The Champion Puppy Series is for greyhounds whelped on or after 1st July 2016 and due to the lack of eligible greyhounds in recent years and feature race programming the series is Heats to a Final.
The $4,590 Heats will be run on Thursday 13th July and the Final on Thursday 20th July. Prizemoney for the 2017 Final has been increased to $9,290. GRSA is pleased to welcome Cinderella’s Commercial Cleaning Group as the sponsor for this years Champion Puppy series.
* Nominations close on Monday 10th July with GRSA at 9.00am.

2017 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN QUEENSLAND
The AGRA National Championships are just around the corner. The National Finals this year will be held at Albion Park in Queensland to be conducted on Friday 25th August. Both the National Sprint and National Distance Finals will carry prizemoney of $75,000 to the winner.
The State series’ for SA will be held at Angle Park on Thursday 3rd August for the Heats with the State Finals on the 10th August.
The most important date for local trainers to remember is the national closing date for entries. Acceptances for the National Championships will close with GRSA on Thursday 20th July at 12 noon. Nominations this year must be lodged via fax or handed into GRSA due to Stat Dec requirements for Queensland.
A reminder to all trainers of the clause which requires a greyhound to have been domiciled in South Australia for a period of not less than 76 days out of the 150 days immediately prior to the National Acceptance Closing date to be eligible to represent SA. If unsure of a greyhound’s status, please contact the GRSA grading staff.
STAT DECLARATION REQUIRED FOR QUEENSLAND RACING
A reminder to trainers that when nominating to race in Queensland that they accommodate their requirements under their local rule 34A.
This will also be conditions for State heats run on the 3rd August for the National Distance and Sprint Championships as both National finals are run at Albion Park this year. These forms will have to be completed and lodged prior to the nominations closing for the State heats. If you have already completed a form and raced in Queensland you will not need to fill out another one.
LR34A Declaration of trainer
(1) When nominating a greyhound for a qualifying trial or Event, a trainer must submit a statutory declaration in the form prescribed by Racing Queensland, declaring that the trainer has not participated and will not participate in an act of animal cruelty or any other activities that would be unlawful (declaration of training propriety).
(2) If a trainer fails to provide the declaration of training propriety without reasonable excuse:
(a) The trainer must not nominate, or attempt to nominate, the greyhound for any qualifying trial or Event; and
(b) The greyhound may be declared disqualified from the qualifying trial or Event.
TIME GRADING UPDATE
GRSA has been working at achieving some of the outcomes from the recent Grading Review Panel meeting held on 28th April 2017. Some items like cascading reserves need to be implemented by Ozchase however some do not.
We will be able to include greyhounds with 0 – 2 starts so every greyhound nominated will be eligible for consideration. The table below details the rating for 0-2 start greyhounds -
“A greyhound with 0 starts will be given a rating of 10 as a starting point. At its second start it will have the average of 10 and its first start. At its third start, it will be the average of the 2 lowest ratings, including the base rating of 10. ie if had 12, 12 from 2 starts, it will be 10 + 12 / 2 = 11”
For “Best to Worst” Time Grading we will be able to include higher graded greyhounds into mixed events if there are insufficient nominations for a single race. The conditions of this are listed -
“A Grade 4 can be mixed with a Grade 5 however a Grade 3 will not unless there is also a Grade 4 greyhound selected for that time graded race”
GRSA has also started to program some category Time Grading meetings. These meetings are for greyhounds that are Maidens, 1 – 4 wins and 5 plus wins all time graded “lowest to highest”. Please refer to the All Tracks calendars for details.
INCREASED PRIZEMONEY FOR SELECTED FEATURE RACES IN 2017/2018
GRSA has been able to increase some of the feature races for the new season continuing to increase the returns to participants.
