TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

Tonight is the final meeting here at headquarters for 2016 and we have a 12 event programme.  There are highlights spread throughout the night with none better than the return of Worm Burner in race 6. We have two distance events and in the first of them we see the return of the Gavin Harris chaser Springvale Bryne. Let’s hope we end the year on a high and back a few winners!

Race 1 and the Janice Jones kennel can kick the night off with a winner with High Eden Snow, he found early trouble here last start from a middle draw but he should bounce straight to the front and win this, the dangers should come from Trace Amount and Aston Dawn.  Box Up 1.2.4.5.

Race 2, the Jones kennel can make it a race to race double when High Eden Frost wins this, he can be hit and miss on box rise but is very strong in the run home.  Victa Ollie is a pacey type with terrific short course form.  Add in Roxy Rolla for value out wide.  Box Up 1.4.5.8.

Race 3 – there are several chances but we should go with Hi Eyecue down in box 1, he has been in the money in 7 of his 11 career starts and is drawn for a bold showing, Dyna Arachni is the big danger as he will be rattling home.  Box Up 1.2.4.7.

Race 4 and this is over the 731m and we see the return of Springvale Bryne.  She has had a short let up and will be primed for a win.  Parsec Bale will be running on late out wide.  Add in Keroma Storm for the value in the trifecta.  Box Up 1.2.4.5.

Race 5, this is another open affair with the main chances drawing the squeeze.  What’s Up Herbie  has pace and should finish in the top 3, Venetian Mask is very smart when on song and appears a big chance.  Add in Penny Maker who is more than capable but is hit and miss out of the lids.  Box Up 3.4.5.6.

Race 6, the Champ returns and what a better way to end 2016, we should see Worm Burner blitz his rivals and clock up win number 36.  Mrs Bubbles can run into the placings again and Dyna Keitaro can fill a place, 5 from 1.7.8 boxed.

Race 7, I will go with the pacey Dixie Anne in this, she has terrific box manners and can nearly pinch this, Tronald Trump is very strong as is Prancer Dancer. Box Up 1.3.6.10.

Race 8 - this is my value bet of the night and that is Zipping Gator in the Wendy Sebastyan kennel.  He was a close up 2nd at Gawler last start and is boxed for a bold showing in this.  Crisis Bale has pace and was a last start winner here so he is a must for the trifecta.  Allen Membo is knocking on the door and should get a good sit in the run to the 1st turn.  Box Up 1.2.4.8.

Race 9, Ruff State was checked from pillar to post here last week and should appreciate the wide draw tonight and clear them early so we will make him our top pick.  Scorching will be running on and won from this draw 3 runs back.  Box Up 1.2.7.8.

Race 10 the 2nd of our 731m events and we will go with the inform Just As Tough, she flew home to win over this trip two starts back and was high flying in the straight over the sprint here last week, she will be hard to beat tonight.  Gelignite Jack appears a place hope and is a must for first 4 punters.  Box Up 1.2.4.7.

Race 11 - Let’s hope we are in front by now as this is a very tricky race.  I will stick with Flying Mal who I tipped here last start he has been missing the start of late but if he is able to step with them he would be right in the mix.  Hesa Jayclo is an improver from the rails draw.  Box Up 1.2.5.7.

Race 12, the final event of 2016 and Destini Scorcher will need a touch of luck but will be running home hard. Throw in Stick Figure and Cash For Jam for the minors.  Box Up 3.5.8.9.

RACE NIGHT DESK UNAVAILABLE TONIGHT FOR THREE WEEKS

Due to staffing arrangements for tonight and Thursday the 5th and 12th January we unfortunately will not have staff behind the Race Night Office counter. The area will be open to participants to take fields and race results as per normal.

The Trainers Fee will be paid upstairs by Hospitality staff between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.

GRSA will provide signage for industry participants and if there is paperwork to be lodged please try and organise with the fulltime staff prior to each Thursday night or drop it in the overnight box near the old Administration entry point.

GRSA apologises if this causes inconvenience during the next three weeks.

FABREGAL SHOOTING FOR 14 STRAIGHT AT GAWLER ON SUNDAY

It is clear that Robyn Mackellar’s star chaser Fabregal is one of the best sprinters in the state and has been successful on the national scene however her love affair with the Gawler circuit is unmatched in recent times. On Sunday night the daughter of Fabregas and Allinga Aye Jay will be shooting for her 14th win in a row at the Northern circuit. She is undefeated over the 531m distance winning all her 10 starts including the Gawler Produce and Gawler Cup double (pictured)and overall at Gawler she has had 17 starts for 15 wins and 2 thirds. Owned by Terry McCallum and bred locally by Trevor Davey she has been fabulous for connections winning over $140,000 in prizemoney. It is unclear whether 14 straight would be a record at Gawler with historical records hard to find however it would be hard to find a greyhound with more dominance at the Gawler venue in recent history. She is engaged in Race 2 on Sunday night, out of box 4 due to jump at 6.24pm and we wish her and connections the best of luck.

SA SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP IN JANUARY

Owners & Trainers are reminded of the domiciliary clause on the SA Sprint Championship coming up in January. To be eligible a greyhound must have been domiciled in SA for a period of not less than 76 days out of the 150 days immediately prior to the time fixed for the finalising of nominations and drawing of fields. (Nationals policy adopted)

This date going back 76 days is 26th October as nominations close on Monday 9th January 2017.

The $4,590 heats are scheduled to be run on Thursday 12th January, with the Final to be run on Thursday 19th January. Total prizemoney for the listed final will be $22,000, with the winner’s share of $15,000.

Nominations close on Monday 9th January 2016 at 9.00am with GRSA.

JOHN GRAY FINAL IN JANUARY

The time honored John Gray series will be held in January with $3,190 heats run on Thursday 19th January and the $8,565 final on Thursday 26th January. The series is for Grade 5 greyhounds over the 515m journey.

Nominations close on Monday 16th January 2016 at 9.00am with GRSA.

Nominations close at 9.00am tomorrow with GRSA.

SATURDAY MORNING TRIALS PROCEDURE

With some recent issues in regard to the Saturday morning trials at Angle Park, trial staff have advised that to make it simpler and clearer for participants and employees that there will be one block per distance where FOL, Catching Pen, Handlsips etc will be booked rather than having this separated. Trainers will get their number as normal for that distance and no one else will have the same number over that distance to stop any confusion. As per normal after every 10 trials there will be a track grade and they then move to the next distance (likely starting with 515m). GRSA will trial this for a period of time and I ask that participants please be patient with their fellow industry members and GRSA staff.

MARK AISTON TO FILL IN WHEN RAY FEWINGS ON LEAVE IN JANUARY

Our long time MC at Angle Park Ray Fewings will be taking some leave in January and we are fortunate to have radio and tv personality Mark Aiston available to fill in while Ray is away. Mark has supported and followed greyhound racing for many years and it is terrific to have him on board. Mark will be hosting on the 12th, 19th and 26th January along with the 2nd February while Ray is away.

BLACK CAPS NOW AVAILABLE FROM GRSA

Along with the white caps GRSA has now approved that black caps can be worn by participants. Both black and white caps with GRSA logos are available from GRSA at a cost of $10.

GRADING UPDATES

The Grading Review Panel met on Friday 11th November to discuss grading in South Australia from an Agenda provided by submissions and industry consultation during the past few months. Following is the main points introduced from 1st December 2016 -

  • The panel advised to be consistent that Grade 6 greyhounds should remain in the drawn fields so long as they were eligible at time of nomination. This would be a change for the 4 win Non SA Bred Grade 6 greyhounds and APK/APM Grade 5 wins who would have normally been withdrawn free of penalty. The panel were supportive of these greyhounds remaining eligible.
  • Pathway winners should be included on the Order of Preference. Regardless of the winners time the performance will be considered as a Country win (like Pt Augusta) and thus will sit on the Order of Preference at 13 if a last start Pathway winner.
  • The table below is in regard to a Time Standard for Masters Events at different tracks over different distances. The panel agreed to the table and advised that the same conditions for Thursday night be implemented for other meetings when a greyhound equals or breaks the Time Standard being ineligible for a Masters Event at that distance and track. Whilst they do not take a grade they have to have two unplaced runs before being considered for a Masters event.

This refers to the Grade 5 Masters events Only.

  • The panel agreed to change the condition of eligibility from 3 months to 6 months for how long prior to a greyhound racing. This comes into line with the 6 month satisfactory trial policy.

**Please note that the GRP were supportive of trainers putting as much information in the comments section of their nomination to assist the Grader in the grading process. Please give him as many options as possible however if trainers write nothing the grader will grade accordingly. If trainers nominate for a specific race advertised in the All tracks calendar and it doesn’t go ahead it is recommended trainers give the Grader another option on their nomination. If trainers do not want their greyhounds to be mixed then they need to be clear on their nomination advising “leaving the greyhound out” and understand that the races will be graded accordingly and if you were going to be in a mixed event under normal grading guidelines then the greyhound will be left out**

AGRC MEMBERS LUCKY DOG DRAW

Each year we have drawn 4 names for each week’s Thursday APK race 8, next to each name is the box number of the dog you have drawn in Race 8.  If your box number happens to win Race 8, you can renew your membership next year (30th June) for half price.

If you happen to own or train greyhounds racing on the date that your name has been drawn, you can choose to have your dogs drawn instead of the lucky box number and it works the same if your dog drawn happens to win.  It is up to you to notify an AGRC committee member on the night that you want to take up this option and we will randomly draw one of your dogs competing on the night. AGRC Committee members are Alan Amezdroz, Barry Stewart, Petar Jovanovic, Melissa Trowbridge, Gabe Vistolli and Gavin Harris.
