TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

With a 10-event programme it’s a must we get off to a terrific start and back a few winners, there are a couple of interstate runners who have ventured over from Victoria and front up in races 5 and 6 and they both look to have their fair share of ability so we will keep a close eye on them. Don’t forget the all races are Trifecta and First Four events and that is where we will pick up a few extra dollars for the long week end in particular the $10,000 guaranteed Trifecta pool on Race 1 tonight, so let’s have a crack.

Race 1 and we tipped him last week from this draw and the old fellow led them a merry dance until he was run down when it counted, tonight Gun McBain can pinch this tonight and record his 67th career win. Sketchy Gun has been knocking on the door with five 2nds in a row and should give this a big shake. Box Up 2.3.6.8.

Race 2 - The Rasmussen kennel rarely leaves without a winner and they have a big chance with Addison’s Way from box 4, she has a good turn of early pace and with moderate beginners on her inside can lead these. Edison Bale can carve across and run a cheeky race along with Super Tokachi for the placings. Box Up 2.4.7.8.

Race 3 - My roughie of the night is Tyla Grace out in box 6, she can be hit and miss on box rise but if she comes out running at good odds she would take catching. Roxy Rolla is a simular type and is a must for trifecta punters, add Dyna Parlance who loves his draw and will be rattling home. Box Up 1.4.6.8.

Race 4 - The main two chances look to be Wheel Spinner and Allen Oregon but both have drawn the middle of the field and will need luck early to fight out the finish. Dyna Keitaro is awkward early but saves his best for the last 100m. Box Up 3.5.6.7.

Race 5 - This is a terrific betting race and there looks to be at least 4 main chances and we see the 1st of the Victorians in Lightning Frank out in box 7, he has won 18 from 34 along with 10 placings and should be primed at his 1st look at the Angle Park circuit. Hukanui will be running on strongly and is racing in terrific form as is Cairnlea Kenny. Box Up 4.6.7.8.

Race 6 - Mepunga Georgia proved too strong in the run home and won from this draw in a moderate 30.29 recently, she will only improve and will be right on the pace early. The 2nd of the Victorians is Zipping Inglis out in box 8, he has won 11 from 24 and 6 placings and his short course form is first class so he appears the measuring stick, add Rock Away for value. Box Up 1.4.5.8.

Race 7 - The two Jovanovic runner’s in Molly Dobbs and Cairnlea Ollie look the main chances, both have a good turn of early pace and they look very hard to split. Demon Premier returned to the winner’s circle with a nice win here from box 1 last start and is a must for the First Four. Box Up 2.5.7.8.

Race 8 - This is the 600m event of the night and a very good one at that. Rip It Ralph has been the most improved runner here in recent weeks and is boxed for a bold showing down on the fence. Jacqui Blax will come out running and won on debut over this trip in a slick 34.98 and on that effort would take a power of beating, we must put in Aston Amon who is we drawn out in the 7. Box Up 1.2.6.7.

Race 9 - We will need to be in front by now as this is a toughie, Velocity Lilly has been knocking on the door of late and with her early pace looks one of the major players from the rails draw. She’s A Batgirl won here 2 starts back in quick time and on that effort is our top pick. Box up 1.3.4.7.

Race 10 and get on the Tony Rasmussen trained Shaun’s Entity down in box 2, he won here on debut by 10 lengths at his 1st look at the track, he should come out running and prove very hard to beat and send us home on a winning note. Spritney Beers and Sassy Kist for the placings. Box Up 2.3.4.6.

ADELAIDE CUP TRIALS

Last Monday night the Paul Abela trained Aston Dinnigan trialled nicely at headquarters in preparation for next Thursday nights Adelaide Cup heats.

Owned locally by Ray Borda she ran 29.76 for the 515m journey with splits of 4.46 and 16.85. She has won 9 of her 15 starts Interstate and almost $30,000 in prizemoney and looks a very progressive type.

Tonight, star chaser Striker Light for Victorian trainer Brett Bravo will trial over the 515m journey in between races. She won the Group 1 Golden Easter Egg back in April and returned to the track after a 1 month layoff with a brilliant win at Warrnambool by over 8 lengths last week. She is a winner of over $430,000 in prizemoney and has the imposing record of 35 starts for 18 wins and 9 placings.

Also trialling tonight will be one of the most exciting sprinters in the land when the Kel Greenough trained Zara’s Entity steps out in preparation for next week’s Cup heats. She is a winner of 7 of her 13 starts and recently came third in the Sandown Speedstar running 29.25 and then last start won at the Meadows by over 9 lengths in a blistering 29.64.

Not to mention the Interstate greyhounds competing tonight in superstar Lightning Frank (race 5 No 7), group performer Jimmy Newob (race 5 no 5) and exciting chaser Zipping Inglis (race 6 no 8) all on target for the Adelaide Cup series next week.

BREEDERS SUPPORT UPDATES

In September last year in response to inquiries about the changes to the Breeders Support Program taking effect in April 2016 Greyhound Racing SA advised the changes below.

These changes are in support of breeder viability and continues increased spending on animal welfare and integrity initiatives.
Changes listed below:

Breeder Support Program
The following changes to the Breeder Support Program have been implemented:
1. Combined claim limit of $800 for all veterinary and transport expenses
2. Removal of the advanced application process for the breeders rebate now that both sires and breeding females must be registered
3. Removal of the cap on litters in anticipation of national (tiered) breeder licensing

SA Bred Maiden Payment - $1,000 if whelped in 2016
The SA bred maiden payment rewards participants that get a greyhound to the track to win a race. GRSA has committed to dramatically increase this payment from $175 to $1,000 ($500 breeder/$500 owner) on 1st July, 2017. This will result in all greyhounds that are whelped in 2016 being eligible for this support.
