TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

As another month comes to an end and Christmas creeps closer we need to start thinking about building a decent bank for the festive season. Tonight’s 11 event programme is very even and I like a couple at good each way odds which should help kick start the kitty. The trifectas and first 4’s are a must for a small outlay as they might pay overs as it’s wide open in most events.

Race 1 and there are several chances in this and the punters elect will be Wild Soul from box 4.  He flew home here last start to run a handy 3rd but his main down fall is his box manners.  Warrior Of Oz is well drawn and looks the improver, add in Hesa Jayclo who was checked at the start here last week when he finished 5th , he is my value bet from the wide draw.  Box Up 1.4.5.7.

Race 2, I’m tipping the likely leader in this and that is Stack ‘Em Fast.   He was run down here last week when he finished 2nd behind Hy Guard.  He just needs a bit of luck and he might pinch this. Sketchy Gun can be hit and miss on box rise but loves to run a place as does Dyna Leona.  Box Up 2.4.5.6.

Race 3 - this is a toughie with a heap of chances.  Lightning Lola has been in the money 8 of her 12 starts and has been the bridesmaid here at her last 3 outings.  Cash For Jam is another who loves to run into the placings.  Box Up 1.2.4.7.

Race 4 and Springvale Bryne will find this a lot easier than her last run on Saturday night at the Meadows.  She has a terrific strike rate and should go close again here.  Go You Girl will be running on late and is suited by the wide draw, we can’t ignore Parsec Bale who will be doing her best work over the last 100m.  Box Up 1.2.7.8.

Race 5, the Johnstone kennel has been firing of late and their runner in Nordoc Magic  appears well boxed out in 7, she won here two runs back in quick time and looks the one to beat in this.  Charli’s Ella and Relton can fill the placings.  Box Up 1.4.6.7.

Race 6 - as I mentioned last week I wouldn’t give up tipping him until he won and that was Fusaichi Kahn and he finally broke through for a much deserved win here in 30.09.  I will stick with him as he can make it two on end from his wide draw tonight.  The main dangers look to be Rhynstone Jetta and Columbian Flame who both will be running on strongly. Box Up 2.3.5.8.

Race 7, forget his latest run when unplaced in the Topgun last Saturday after finding a heap of trouble.  Worm Burner will bounce back tonight but will start at very skinny odds. Crisis Bale and Are Ate are chances of filling the places 8 from 1.2.3.Boxed.

Race 8 - this is a terrific betting race with several chances so it makes for a good first 4 event, Junner Bale hasn’t had much luck of late but is very smart when on song.  Crown Jester is the form runner with 3 good wins on the trot and is well drawn out in box 7, add in a value runner in Cyclone Clifford who will right in the finish with an ounce of luck in the concluding stages.  Box Up 2.3.6.7.

Race 9, Scorching is drawn for a bold showing in this.  The Mathew Payne trained chaser hasn’t had much luck from his wide draws of late and should be the improver from the rails tonight.  Splish Splashin’ has early pace and should finish right in the mix.  Box Up 1.3.4.8.

Race 10, Smash Em Dollars is my top pick from his draw of 1.  He won here two starts back in 29.88 and last start found a heap of trouble from box 6.  He should lead and win tonight.  Venture out to Bekim Fire out in box 8, he has been in the money at his last 4 runs here and is a trifecta chance.  Box Up 1.3.7.8.

Race 11, It’s a good race to go home on and the couple I like are hard to split, they are Calendar Girl and Show Me Dollars.  Both are consistent and are well drawn, looking for value add in the Lauren Harris trained sprinter in Gnasher who is resuming from a spell.  Box Up 2.3.6.8.

SA SUPERSTAR WORM BURNER MAKES THE SANDOWN SHOOTOUT FIELD

The pride of South Australian greyhound racing Worm Burner has been selected for the Sandown Shootout to be run on Friday 4th November.  The Group 2 Shootout is for four greyhounds only and “The Worm” joins Dundee Osprey, Outside Pass and Zambora Brockie in the select field.

The four greyhounds will now race for the $50,000 winner-takes-all prize at Sandown Park with this sort of format suiting the Cameron Butcher trained superstar as he has had no luck recently in high quality fields.

The box draw for the race will be conducted tonight during the Sandown meeting and streamed live on the Sandown club’s Facebook page. Connections of each greyhound will be drawn at random and will then select the box from which the greyhound will jump. As Worm Burner performs at his best from a slightly wider box he looks like he’ll get his wish and with only 3 others in the race and let’s hope we see the best of Worm Burner as we did in the National final where he blew them all away.

2016 SA COUNTRY CUP

The $7,375 SA Country Cup Final will be run at Strathalbyn this year over 536 metres on Daish Irrigation and Fodder Strathalbyn Cup Final night, Sunday 20th November 2016. The SA Country Cup will be rotated each year between Gawler and Strathalbyn to be held on each clubs Cup night.

AGRC PUPPY AUCTION LAST SUNDAY

The Adelaide Greyhound Racing Clubs greyhound Auction was held last Sunday October 23 with $140,300 being spent in the hope of finding the next star of the track and encouraging new participants into the industry.

There were reduced numbers this year with 50 young greyhounds up for auction after withdrawals compared to 87 last year. With all lots going under the hammer the top price paid was $9,000 for a pup in the catalogue by superstar Fernando Bale out of 2012 SA Greyhound of the Year Hope’s Up. Hope’s Up also had last year’s top price of $12,000 for a pup by Collision.

The average price paid on Sunday was $2,806 which was up on last year’s figure of $2,228. Each pup which was sold on the day at Auction is eligible to enter a $16,000 to the winner race series to be held in 2018.

EXTRA RACE MEETINGS FOR ANGLE PARK

After GRSA had already moved some meetings to accommodate the Gawler Lure and Rail system upgrade resulting in Gawler not racing for 3 weeks in early November we added three extra meetings at Angle Park in support of participation.

Taking into account the Sky Racing schedule, staffing issues, track maintenance and budget requirements the added racing dates are listed below -

Add – Angle Park Day Friday 28th October (Mount Gambier GRC also race on this day)

Add – Angle Park Day Friday 4th November (Mount Gambier GRC also race on this day)

Add – Angle Park Day Wednesday 9th November (Mount Gambier GRC also race on this day)

These extra meetings at Angle Park will provide added racing opportunities to participants on a consistent basis where they don’t have the opportunity to trial or race at Gawler during this period. GRSA thanks the support of Sky Racing to approve these racing dates during this period.

RACING AT ANGLE PARK WHILE GAWLER IS CLOSED

While Gawler is closed down and with added racing for Angle Park GRSA want to make sure trainers are aware which extra meetings will be run as either Catching Pen or Finish On Lure.

If the meetings have been added as an extra meeting for Angle Park then they will be run as a Catching Pen meeting. If they were a replacement for a Gawler meeting then they will be run as a Finish On Lure meeting. This remains consistent with GRSA policy. Listed below are the dates affected -

  • Angle Park Friday 28th October – Catching Pen
  • Angle Park Wednesday 2nd November – Catching Pen
  • Angle Park Friday 4th November – Catching Pen
  • Angle Park Tuesday 8th November – Finish On Lure
  • Angle Park Wednesday 9th November – Catching Pen
  • Angle Park Friday 11th November - Finish On Lure
  • Angle Park Tuesday 15th November – Finish On Lure
  • Angle Park Wednesday 16th November – Catching Pen
  • Angle Park Friday 18th November – Finish On Lure

TRIALLING WHILE GAWLER IS CLOSED

There will be NO trials at Gawler on Wednesday night and Thursday morning while the venue is closed for the upgrade of the lure system. As a replacement Angle Park will also trial on Thursday morning starting at 7.00am during this period. These trials will be FOL only.

Trials will be conducted at Angle Park on Tuesday nights, Thursday morning and Saturday morning during this time. With the extra racing planned this should hopefully accommodate trainer’s requirements.

EMERLEY PARK TO TRIAL ON FRIDAYS WHEN ANGLE PARK RACES

GRSA will conduct trials at Emerley Park on Fridays when we are racing at Angle Park during the period while Gawler is shut down. The trials will start at 7.00am and must finish at 9.30am allowing staff sufficient time to travel to Angel Park for the race meeting. There will be trialling there tomorrow and it will be monitored over the next few weeks .

PORT AUGUSTA ON MELBOURNE CUP DAY

The Port Augusta Greyhound Racing Club will again have a Non TAB meeting on Melbourne Cup Day Tuesday 1st November. DOUG PAYNE FREE FOR ALL ON THURSDAY 3RD NOVEMBER

ANNUAL GRADING REVIEW MEETING – NOVEMBER 11

The consultation sessions at the Clubs have been completed with good responses from all venues.

Based on all the information collected an agenda will be formulated shortly and sent to the Grading Review Panel to be discussed at the review.

HOT WEATHER POLICY

A reminder to trainers with the hot weather coming to make sure they are aware of the updated conditions relating to the Hot Weather Policy. This policy is available on the GRSA website and also at the track.

AGRC MEMBERS LUCKY DOG DRAW

Reminder on how it works, each year we have drawn 4 names for each week’s Thursday APK race 8, next to each name is the box number of the dog you have drawn in Race 8.  If your box number happens to win Race 8, you can renew your membership next year (30th June) for half price.    We have drawn 8 names for the Xmas function night so we will have at least one happy member on that night.

If you happen to own or train greyhounds racing on the date that your name has been drawn, you can choose to have your dogs drawn instead of the lucky box number and it works the same if your dog drawn happens to win.  It is up to you to notify an AGRC committee member on the night that you want to take up this option and we will randomly draw one of your dogs competing on the night.

AGRC Committee members are Alan Amezdroz, Barry Stewart, Petar Jovanovic, Melissa Trowbridge, Gabe Vistolli and Gavin Harris.

2017 GAWLER PRODUCE STAKES

The 2017 Gawler Produce Stakes will be run by GRSA in conjunction with the Gawler Greyhound Racing Club. Once again we will offer guaranteed Final Stakemoney, which will be $22,000. The estimate for the total series prizemoney is $40,000, based on this year’s series. The series is for greyhounds whelped in 2015.

In 2017 we will again be offering additional incentives for trainers to nominate. A bonus will be offered to any greyhound which can win both the Produce Stake and the Gawler Gold Cup.

The jackpot is currently worth $13,000. A jackpot of $1,000 will be added each year until won, when it will revert to $5,000. Fabregal will be shooting for the jackpot if she can win the Gawler Cup final on Sunday 30th October.

The SA Bred bonus will also be continued; should the winner of the Final be SA bred, there will be a SA Bred bonus of $1,000 to the owner.

The dates for this series will be Heats on Tuesday 27th June 2017, Semi Finals on Tuesday 4th July 2017 and the Final on Sunday 9th July 2017. There will be a breeders bonus of $500 for the winner of the Final and a consolation event also.

GRSA administers the event for the Club, so all payments are to be made to GRSA. The fees are, with the one-off payment option $121.00 or the sustaining option at $33 (first), $55 (second) and $88 (Final).

Nomination Forms are now available, along with the full list of conditions and the payment schedule. We have sent out forms to those with eligible greyhounds as well as previous supporters of the race.

* Nominations for the 2017 Gawler Produce will close on Friday 18th November with GRSA.
