 TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

A huge night of racing at headquarters with two very strong heats of the Howard Ashton, which are races 6 and 7 on the programme.  Add in a sensational 600m event which is race 5 on the card and how good is the Bargain Steel Free For All event?  That sets a terrific night for all who are trying to back a winner. I like a couple tonight which won’t start the bookmakers elect so we might be able to get a little bit of value for our money.

Race 1, we kick off with an open affair and I like Sunday Shoes.  She is very smart when on song and will find this a lot easier than her past couple.  So she is a must for our trifecta, Crisis Bale is very pacey as is Rhynstone Jetta.  Box Up 3.4.6.8.

Race 2, Venetian Mask has been in good form since crossing the border and broke 30 secs here at her debut earlier in the month.  Venture out to Priscilla Mary for value as she is well drawn for mine and might be able to pinch the early lead, so we will make her one of our each way specials.  Box up 3.4.7.8.

Race 3 and this is the 731m event of the night.  The two main chances are the pacey Danyo’s Tom and Go You Girl, one will be leading and the other will be flying home over the top of them. Add in Master Bekim who can fill a place Box Up 1.2.3.8

Race 4 and the inside 3 look the main chances; all have wins in their last five starts here and from inside draws.  It is very hard to split them so we will need to box them up.  Add in Hesa Jayclo for value for the First 4.  Box Up 1.2.3.4.

Race 5 and how good is this 600m event.  We have 3 out of the 7 runners that have cracked the 35.00 barrier.  Those 3 can’t be left out of our calculations in this. Eduardo is the inform runner and is my pick as he should ping to the front and would prove very hard to beat.  Texas Titan is fantastic to watch, he gets back but fly’s home.  Box Up 2.3.7.8.

Race 6 the first of the semis of the Howard Ashton,  I will stick with the Tony Rasmussen trained Hukanui, he was the fastest heat winner here last week in a slick 29.43 but his downfall is his box manners.  Paddy McBain is pacey and from box 8 will be up there when needed.  Team Roper can be hit and miss, so it’s a big risk on my behalf and I will leave him out of the trifecta.  Box Up 1.2.3.8.

Race 7, second of the semis, and this looks a raffle as there is a heap of chances.  The pace is all coming from the inside brigade, so I will venture out to the well performed Harbormaster out in box 6.  He has won his last 4 here all in sub 30 but his downfall is that he has won 6 from 9, but is yet to run a place!!  Wilba Beast is drawn for a bold showing as is Alliga Val.  Box Up 1.2.3.6.

Race 8 and this is the FFA of the night.  The two main chances are the outstanding Coorong Kid down in box 1 and the high flying Dyna Keitaro.  They both appear the standouts in this. Who do I select??

I will go with my old favourite the Cameron Butcher trained Coorong Kid, he tried his guts out here last week when 2nd after finding early trouble and still ran a game race from box 6.  From this draw he can kick up and add to his 25 career wins.  Dyna Keitaro is the obvious danger and a win wouldn’t be a surprise. For value for our trifecta and First 4 throw in Getty Bale and Gun McBain.  Box Up 1.2.3.7

Race 9 and the Rob Harnas trained Zipping Bianca has the pace to lead and win despite the poor draw tonight.  She has only missed a cheque once here in her 7 starts and looks well suited for my money.  Electro Bale is in a top kennel and is a chance of running into the top 3.  Add in Park Glory for value.  Box Up 1.3.6.8.

Race 10 and I hope we are in front as this is a wide open affair or normally called the get out stakes!! Shana Allen is knocking on the door but continues to draw wide in her races.  Velocity Tina is another who doesn’t win many but is capable of breaking through in this.  Box Up 2.6.7.8.

LOCAL NEWS

GROUP 3 HOWARD ASHTON SEMI FINALS TONIGHT

There are two terrific semi finals tonight for the Group 3 Howard Ashton after 5 heats were run last Wednesday at Angle Park.

Heat winners from last week were –

Team Roper- 30.27

Harbormaster – 29.62

Allinga Val – 29.61

Hukanui – 29.43

Paddy McBain – 29.69

With plenty of form in each semi final an upset result could be on the cards if some of the favourites are not on their game tonight as each greyhound looks to qualify for next week’s Final.

As there are two Semi-Finals the first four from each semi final will qualify for next weeks final. The box draw will take place on track tonight, following race 8.

The 2016 Howard Ashton Final is a Group 3 event, with total prizemoney of $37,500. It is the main race series of Breeders 2016.

Breeders 2016 has one further series to follow the Howard Ashton. That will be the Gawler Breeders 2016 to be run with heats on Tuesday 26th July and the final on Sunday 31st July.

GROUP 1 SANDOWN CUP LOOMS FOR LUNA JINX TONIGHT

Luna Jinx last week qualified for her 8th Group final and 4th Group 1 final when she flashed home to win her heat of the Group 1 Sandown Cup. The Gavin Harris trained super stayer has drawn awkwardly in box 6 in a high quality field all chasing the $175,000 first prize. The Sandown Cup final is race 8 on tonight’s program due to be run at 9.10pm (SA time). It could be a sign of things to come tonight for Gavin if Springvale Bryne can win race 4 tonight at Sandown after she drew box 1 over the 715m distance. Her race is run at 7.43pm (SA time). We wish Gavin and connections all the best tonight.

FABREGAL IN GROUP 2 WA OAKS THIS SATURDAY NIGHT

Fabregal for Robyn Mackellar made her second Group 2 final when she ran second in last week’s heats of the WA Oaks at Cannington. In what looks another hot final this Saturday night she has drawn much closer to the rails in box 3 and looks the likely leader. She will be chasing the $40,000 first prize and hopefully make it back to back Oaks in WA for the South Aussies after Real Flash won for Troy Murray. We wish Robyn and connections the best of luck on Saturday night.
