Racing News

TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

The whole night looks very open, so we will have be on song early to try and back a few winners, the 600m affair which is race 4 on the programme looks to be a ripper so it makes for a terrific betting night. Don’t forget you can have a Trifecta and a First Four on all races and that is where we might be able to pick up a bonus for a small outlay including that massive guaranteed Trifecta pool of $10,000 on race 1.

Race 1 and the form runner is Long Gully Pete down in box 3, he has been in fine form of late with 3 wins and two 2nds, he has moderate beginners on his inside which will make the going a lot easier. Baa Man has struck form with a hat trick of wins and appears the main danger. Box Up 1.4.3.7.

Race 2 - This is a wide-open affair and we will go with Charlie Chops out in box 6, he has been placed at his 3 starts here since transferring from N.S.W and only needs to improve his box manners to have a big say in the finish. Addison’s Way looks a chance but will need to be handy early as will Glaucus. Box Up 1.4.6.7.

Race 3 - Last start winner Tigers Empire should be the measuring stick on her 30.24 run here from box 2 last week, she has a good turn of early pace and is boxed for a bold showing again. Emerley Cosmic is a must for the First Four punters as he loves to fill a place. Box Up 2.3.4.6.

Race 4 - This is the 600m affair and for mine there looks to be several chances, Backpacker will be charging home late but is hit and miss early. Sutton Steele can ping the lids and is a bold front running chaser and will be very hard to beat, add in Zero Knockin’ who has been in the money in 6 of his 10 attempts over this trip. Box Up 1.3.4.8.

Race 5 - The Rasmussen team rarely leaves without a winner and Diego Bale can open his Angle Park account from his draw of 1, he can be moderate away but will be doing his best work in the final stages. Paua To Kapau is the form runner and is a big chance of pinching this with his early pace. Box Up 1.3.4.8.

Race 6 - The two main chances have drawn out wide in Harbormaster and Hukanui, both are in terrific form and have been carving out quick times of late, they look to have the race between them. Add in the pacey Mepunga Georgia who can run a cheeky race from her rails draw. Box Up 1.4.7.8.

Race 7 - Aston Apollo is normally quick early so he might be able to open up a good lead in this, so we will make him our top pick from his draw of 3. Rock Away has been around the mark in recent runs and loves to fill a place. Box Up 2.3.5.6.

Race 8 - This is a wide-open affair with 3 last winners engaged, the pace will come from Molly Dobbs who is racing well of late McLaren Missile has won his past 2 here in quick times and should be able to kick up early and run a bold race. Add in Dyna Keitaro who will be the one running over the top of them and we shouldn’t go far wrong for our trifecta. Box Up 1.3.4.6.

Race 9 - This is the distance of the night over the 731m, we only have 3 starters left due to scratching’s. Kooka Jak loves this trip and looks the main pick he has only had the 4 starts here in South Australia for a win and two 3rds so we will make him our top pick. Springvale Carla and Cairnlea Lewis for the minors. 2 from 4 & 8.

Race 10 - I like the inside brigade here, but out top pick will be the Helen Foster owned Skipper McLaren, he has been in terrific form of late and looks very hard to beat from his inside draw. Sassy Kist found a heap of trouble here last start but is more than capable of improving from her rails draw. Box Up 1.2.3.6.

Race 11 and the two main chances appear to be Slippers Time and Spring Bloom, both have been in the money of late but one is a front runner and the later will be flashing home over the top of them, they are both a must for our First Four. Add in Venetian Mask who has finally drawn a box. So let’s go with 1.2.4.7 Boxed in the final event.

ONLINE & PHONE BOOKINGS OF TRIALS FOR ANGLE PARK AND GAWLER – TO START AT 11.30AM NEXT WEEK

Recently GRSA has received feedback in regard to the Online Trial booking process for both Gawler Wednesday and Angle Park Tuesday and Saturday trial sessions.  This process of online bookings is fully supported by the ICG and GRSA Board and will continue to grow over time.

• To encourage the move from 100% phone bookings to online GRSA made the decision to separate the booking times from 12.30pm, to 11.30am for online and 12.30pm for phone. This has worked successfully and reduced the number of phone calls dramatically. This encourages participants to manage their own bookings.
However GRSA believes that the separation is now no longer required so both online and phone bookings will now be at 11.30am for trial sessions from 30th October 2017.
It was decided to go to 11.30am due to the commitment participants have made to the online process and worked their schedule around this time being at home or near their device to book.
Whilst having the bookings at the same time the trial booking phone line will still be 08 8243 7172. No trials will be accepted on any other phone line; participants will be queued as normal and will not be taken before 11.30am. Our staff member will attempt to book your phone trials in a timely manner bearing in mind participants will be booking online at the same time. I would encourage all participants to move to the online process as this is quicker, easier and they can have the flexibility to manage the process themselves.
• It is important for all participants to realise that at any point from 11.30am when the trials open to around 3.30pm the day of the trial session (or day before for Saturday) they can log on or ring up and manage their bookings. They may be able to move earlier or later if there has been a cancellation etc, it really does provide an option if their time is unsuitable.

MOUNT GAMBIER, ANGLE PARK & GAWLER CHANGES IN DECEMBER

After consultation with the Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club, GRSA has made some variations to the racing calendar in December 2017 to assist with nominations and the Xmas break.

With Mt Gambier being deleted on Sunday 24th December 2017, GRSA in consultation with the Gawler GRC has moved the Gawler Night meeting to Gawler Day.
Delete: Gawler – Sunday 24th December 2017  (TAB) Night
Add: Gawler – Sunday 24th December 2017  (TAB) Day

NOTIFICATION OF TRAINING AMENDMENT & CLEARANCE OF GREYHOUNDS

Trainers are reminded of their obligation to notify GRSA within 3 working days of a greyhound coming into or leaving their kennel (Rule 105(4)(i)).  This is a requirement for all greyhounds regardless of where bred.  We have had a number of trainers recently put in training amendments late the night prior to nominations closing at 9am the following day, this practice can lead to your nomination not being accepted or being unable to nominate online should any issues arise the following morning.

Trainers are also leaving it to the night before nominations close to have greyhounds “checked off”.  This practice can also lead to your nomination not being accepted or being unable to nominate online should any issues arise. It is therefore in the trainer’s best interest to have lodged with GRSA the training amendment and clearance of the greyhound a number of days prior to wishing to nominate the greyhound.  It is not GRSA’s responsibility to ensure that the paperwork is processed within ½ hour, which is the amount of time available to have it processed before nominations close at 9am.

COMPLETION OF PAPERWORK

Participants are reminded of their obligation to ensure that when lodging paperwork that it is fully completed and payment is made at the time of lodgement.

GRSA is here to assist should you be unsure of how to complete any paperwork however it is not our responsibility to arrange for its completion, nor is it our responsibility to ensure that it is lodged.  Therefore, please ensure when lodging any paperwork eg, Transfer of Ownerships, Litter Registrations etc that they are fully completed and paid for and lodged within a timely manner.

BREEDERS SUPPORT UPDATES

In September last year in response to inquiries about the changes to the Breeders Support Program taking effect in April 2016 Greyhound Racing SA advised the changes below. These changes are in support of breeder viability and continues increased spending on animal welfare and integrity initiatives.
Changes listed below:

Breeder Support Program
The following changes to the Breeder Support Program have been implemented:
1. Combined claim limit of $800 for all veterinary and transport expenses
2. Removal of the advanced application process for the breeders rebate now that both sires and breeding females must be registered
3. Removal of the cap on litters in anticipation of national (tiered) breeder licensing
SA Bred Maiden Payment - $1,000 if whelped in 2016
The SA bred maiden payment rewards participants that get a greyhound to the track to win a race. GRSA has committed to dramatically increase this payment from $175 to $1,000 ($500 breeder/$500 owner) on 1st July, 2017. This will result in all greyhounds that are whelped in 2016 being eligible for this support.
