TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

The two big highlights on tonight’s programme that can’t be missed is race 6, the John Gray Final, and race 8 the SA Sprint Final.  Both are very good betting races and we should have a crack at the trifectas and pick 4s. Don’t forget it’s a huge 12 event programme so we will have to get on the front foot early and back a few winners.

Race 1 and it’s very hard to go past Fabregal in this.  She has a terrific record here and looks the leader and should prove too strong.  Wheel Spinner is the danger and will be charging home late.  Box Up 2.4.7.8.

Race 2 - The Robyn Mackellar kennel should bring up a race to race double with Inequity out in box 7.  He is a pacey type who will give this a big shake.  Crunchin Numbers has very good short course form and is stepping up to the 515m.  Add in Tyla Grace for the trifecta.  Box Up 2.3.4.7.

Race 3 - Good even race and when in doubt go for the well-drawn runner in Play Alone, he has been the runner up here at his past couple and should be right in the mix.  Kennel mate Stick Figure has been missing the kick of late but is strong so we have to put him in our top 4.  Box Up 1.3.5.6.

Race 4 – the Janice Jones kennel is on fire of late and High Eden Frost continues to carve out quick times from wide draws, so he is nearly the stand out in this.  Molly Dobbs as mentioned before loves to cause the big upset at odds and can’t be overlooked.  Box Up 1.3.7.8.

Race 5 - The number to follow in the early race is 7 and Sutton Steele has that draw.  Angela Modra has him flying of late and he looks the measuring stick again.  Keroma Storm will be running on late and loves to run a place.  Box Up 2.6.7.8.

Race 6 - The John Gray Final with $6,000 to the winner on offer, Snakebite Bale is yet to taste defeat since crossing the border with 5 quick wins at this venue and the Ben Rawlings sprinter will start the short price favourite again and should win.  The old fellow in Gun McBain is always a chance and is a must for the trifecta punters as is Thumb A Ride who will add a bit of value.  Box Up 1.2.3.7

Race 7 - This is a good even event with at least 4 chances, I will go with early pace and hopefully that come from Are Ate who has been freshened.  Regal Looper has drawn the rails and has his paw on the till.  Cyclone Clifford was never a chance here last week but expect a sharp improvement.  Box Up 1.3.4.8.

Race 8 - The SA Sprint Final (take 2) as we all know the final didn’t go ahead last week due to the horrific storms so they front up tonight and run for the $15,000 for the winners purse. It’s very hard to go past Worm Burner the champ knows how to lift in finals and with a win tonight it will take his earnings over $300,000.  Marlow Brown has been flying of late with 4 wins from his last 5 runs, add in Texas Titan who will need a lot of early luck for value.  Box Up 1.3.5.8.

Race 9 - The Distance affair of the night and Springvale Bryne can bounce back into the winners circle in the field of 3 (due to scratchings).  She should lead them a merry dance and prove too good.  Long Gully Gilly and Go You Girl.  In order 1 from 6 and 2.

Race 10 - Purpose Driven has the form on board with good wins here and at Gawler and from box 1 should prove the goods.  Top Weight is a place hope on his two SA runs and for value put in the pacey Dixie Anne.   Box Up 1.3.6.8.

Race 11 - The Rawlings kennel looks to have another handy one in Gangalla Fury.  He has won 3 of 10 along with 4 placings, and he has a good turn of early pace and with luck from box 5 will prove hard to beat.  Another Mai is worth a wager at each way odds.  Box Up 2.5.7.8.

Race 12 - The Cameron Butcher kennel can top off a big night if Roc The Belvue is successful,  she has a good turn of pace and might be able to clear them early.   Box Up 2.3.5.7

SOUTH AUSSIES CHASING RICHES IN THE WEST

On Saturday night the Group 1 Galaxy heats will be held at Cannington, WA for the best stayers in the land and South Australia will have two representatives.

The Ben Rawlings trained Bogie Bekim will be jumping from box 1 in Race 6 and after his blistering performance on the track last week and looks very hard to beat. He ran 42.12 in winning by 6 lengths which followed his sensation performance at headquarters over the 731m when he broke 43.00 seconds. He needs to finish in the first two to qualify for Saturday weeks Group 1 final however he has drawn perfectly and is low flying at present.

In race 10 at Cannington the Tim Aloisi trained Jed Monelli has drawn box 3 in the final heat of the Galaxy and looks a chance on his first up performance at Angle Park on Monday night. After having two months away from the track Jed Monelli ran home strongly from a hopeless position to grab his rivals right on the line over the 600m trip. It was a terrific training performance by Tim to win with Jed Monelli and he should derive plenty of improvement on Saturday night. He has also raced on the track with a best time over the 715m of 42.18 and a repeat of that would put him right into final calculations.

Good luck to connections on Saturday night.

SATURDAY MORNING TRIALS PROCEDURE

With some recent issues in regard to the Saturday morning trials at Angle Park, trial staff have advised that to make it simpler and clearer for participants and employees that there will be one block per distance where FOL, Catching Pen, Handlsips etc will be booked rather than having this separated. Trainers will get their number as normal for that distance and no one else will have the same number over that distance to stop any confusion. As per normal after every 10 trials there will be a track grade and they then move to the next distance (likely starting with 515m). GRSA will trial this for a period of time and I ask that participants please be patient with their fellow industry members and GRSA staff.

MARK AISTON TO FILL IN WHEN RAY FEWINGS ON LEAVE IN JANUARY

Our long time MC at Angle Park Ray Fewings will be taking some leave in this month and we are fortunate to have radio and tv personality Mark Aiston available to fill in while Ray is away. Mark has supported and followed greyhound racing for many years and it is terrific to have him on board. Mark will be hosting tonight and the 2nd February while Ray is away.

ANGLE PARK QUALIFYING TRIALS –NOW WEEKLY

AGRC MEMBERS LUCKY DOG DRAW
Each year we have drawn 4 names for each week’s Thursday APK race 8, next to each name is the box number of the dog you have drawn in Race 8.  If your box number happens to win Race 8, you can renew your membership next year (30th June) for half price.

If you happen to own or train greyhounds racing on the date that your name has been drawn, you can choose to have your dogs drawn instead of the lucky box number and it works the same if your dog drawn happens to win.  It is up to you to notify an AGRC committee member on the night that you want to take up this option and we will randomly draw one of your dogs competing on the night. AGRC Committee members are Alan Amezdroz, Barry Stewart, Petar Jovanovic, Melissa Trowbridge, Gabe Vistolli and Gavin Harris.
