TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

We are back at headquarters tonight with a strong 10 event programme and I have tipped box 1 runners to win the first 4 races, as usual all races are trifecta and First 4 events. Good luck to our two representatives, On Fire and Bogie Bekim in sunny Brisbane and let’s hope they come home with the chocolates.

Race 1 and the inform Forlano is drawn for a bold showing, he has the pace to lead and will take beating. Rip It Ralph will be running on late and is a must for the trifecta. Add in Spring Bloom who will be doing her best work late. Box Up 1.2.4.8.

Race 2 - The Rasmussen kennel is on fire of late and they should get an earlier winner with Rockstar Lisa from the rails draw, she is back in grade and looks one of the better bets on the card. Chief Bale is our value runner for the First 4 as he will be making late ground. Box Up 1.3.6.8.

Race 3 - Winning form is good form and Stich Em Up has won 4 of his last 5 here and Gawler, all in quick times so he is another who we will put in as a special. Funky Monkey is returning to headquarters and is sure to improve along with Shimatron who can be tardy away. Box Up 1.2.4.6.

Race 4 - With only the 5 runners in this it’s certainly a high-quality grade 2/3 event. We have a Victorian Visitor in Up Hill Jill who has a tremendous record of 24 wins and 15 placings from her 43 career starts and she is sure to give this a huge shake. Local sprinter High Eden Frost is in fine form and is boxed to perfection and will take beating. 1.6.2.8. for a $1.00

Race 5 and there are several chances in this so it makes for a terrific betting race. Ben Rawlings has a very handy one in Doppelganger who has won his past 2 in good times, he has the pace to lead and win again. Dawning Hope has struck form with 2 smart wins at Gawler in recent starts and looks primed to run a bold race. Box Up 1.3.4.6.

Race 6 - This is a toughie to pick but the two we will go with are Allen Jono and Aussie Steel, both are more than capable when on song but have proven costly to punters in the past. Dyna Willem has been around the mark in recent runs and is worth putting in the First 4. Box Up 1.2.6.8.

Race 7 - How good is this final with at least 4 main chances I will stick with Hukanui down in box 1 as he will be rattling home and should be within striking distance early. Ruff State has a good turn of early pace and looks the likely leader. Add in Windmill Haze who loves to run a place. Box Up 1.2.3.8.

Race 8 - We will go with the pacey Aston Ah Chee in this for Troy Murray, he should open a big break and hold off the fast finishing Dyna Keitaro. Buzz Box is in handy form but is hit and miss on box rise but must be put in the trifecta. Box Up 2.4.7.8.

Race 9 - This is the 600m event of the night and the two main chances look to be Aston Amon and Velocity Lilly ,both are in fine form and they should Quinella this. Zero Knockin can fill a place but he has terrible box manners. Box Up 2.3.4.8.

Race 10 - I like a roughie to go home on in Serendipity Man for the Kevin Bewley kennel, he has been racing well over the short of late and might be able to pinch this at each way odds. Croydon Boys should start the punters elect and is another who has pace. Box Up 2.3.5.7.

2017 UBET NATIONALS ON FRIDAY NIGHT

The 2017 UBET Nationals are at Albion Park in Queensland on Friday night and the Sprint Championship is race 6 on the programme.

Local star On Fire will be hoping to repeat the success of kennel mate Worm Burner 12 months ago for Cameron Butcher when the “Worm” won the Sprint title on home soil. On Fire is the best sprinter in SA and all local fans will hoping he can show on Friday night that he is the best sprinter in the Nation. He trialled at Albion Park on Monday night and ran sizzling of 29.89 for the 520m journey with splits of 5.65 and 11.65 (run home 12.59). He has drawn box 1 and while he would probably prefer a wider box, he has an outstanding record from the red, winning 5 of his 7 starts and he certainly knows how to win with a career record of 29 wins and 12 placings from 46 starts.

Race 8 is the UBET National Distance Final and what a race it is with multiple Group 1 winners Fanta Bale and Burn One Down hot favourites in the market. However SA has a Group 1 winner in Bogie Bekim taking on the best stayers in the land and he is definitely a greyhound that can cause a minor upset. Trained by inform trainer Ben Rawlings he has returned Bogie Bekim back to peak fitness after a couple of runs and his belt from a break. He topped of his preparation for Friday nights big race with a brilliant solo trial on Monday night at Albion Park where over the 520m he ran a slick 29.96 with splits of 5.68, 11.68 and a run home of 12.60. He has drawn box 2 and like On Fire probably would prefer a wider box however he looks like he will get a nice run in behind Fanta Bale (box 1) and hopefully be too strong in the run to the finish line. He has been a super greyhound for connections having won 19 races and if successful tomorrow night he will go past $260,000 in stakemoney.

BREEDERS SUPPORT UPDATES

In September last year in response to inquiries about the changes to the Breeders Support Program taking effect in April 2016 Greyhound Racing SA advised the changes below. These changes are in support of breeder viability and continues increased spending on animal welfare and integrity initiatives.

Changes listed below:

Breeder Support Program
The following changes to the Breeder Support Program have been implemented:
1. Combined claim limit of $800 for all veterinary and transport expenses
2. Removal of the advanced application process for the breeders rebate now that both sires and breeding females must be registered
3. Removal of the cap on litters in anticipation of national (tiered) breeder licensing

SA Bred Maiden Payment - $1,000 if whelped in 2016
The SA bred maiden payment rewards participants that get a greyhound to the track to win a race. GRSA has committed to dramatically increase this payment from $175 to $1,000 ($500 breeder/$500 owner) on 1st July, 2017. This will result in all greyhounds that are whelped in 2016 being eligible for this support.

KINGS AND QUEENS FEATURE – NOMINATIONS CLOSE ON MONDAY

GRSA introduced the Kings and Queens Feature series with Heats on Thursday 31st August and a $6,000 Final on Thursday 7th September in support of those greyhounds affected by the change to the AGRA Age Restricted Classics from 30 months back down to 27 months for this years Oaks and Derby.

The eligibility for these races is for dogs and bitches whelped between 1st March 2015 and 31st May 2015. Performed Maidens are eligible (raced or qualy trialled).

It will be dependent upon nominations however we would like to run a dogs heat and a bitches heat separately with greyhounds qualifying into the final however if there are not sufficient nominations for either sex then these heats will be mixed as a one off heat into a final or a couple of mixed heats. Special conditions apply however these races will be non-penalty.
• Nominations close Monday 28th August at 9.00am with GRSA.
