TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

We have two very exciting semi-finals of the Brian Johnstone Group 3 event which are races 6 and 7 on tonight’s programme and we can’t forget the National Sprint champion Worm Burner who was a cracking 3rd in last Friday nights Melbourne Cup Final, he steps out in race 8. The kennels to follow tonight are Cameron Butcher and Troy Murray.

Race 1 and we kick off with a handy event.  I loved the run of Fly As One last week when he ran a very good 4th behind Marlow Brown after missing the kick, he can overcome the tricky draw of 6 and win.  Add in Relton who is well drawn and Allen Jersey who will be rattling home late.  Box Up 1.2.6.8

Race 2 - This is a very open affair with at least 4 chances.  The pace will come from out wide so I will stick with those two, they are Gnasher and Tronald Trump, both are racing well and should figure in the money.  Lady Bale has improved at her past couple and is worth putting in the trifectas.  Box Up 2.4.7.8.

Race 3, The Troy Murray kennel has returned to form and Its Classified appears well boxed and is right down in grade so we will put him on top.  Hy Guard is a very tardy beginner but will be storming home late.  Add in Crazy Nitro out wide.  Box Up 3.4.6.8.

Race 4 and this is the 731m event of the night and I will stick with the pacey Danyo’s Tom who won in a very simular field here last Thursday in 43.29.  Parsec Bale will be doing her best work over the last 100m, we can’t leave out Nureyev who has won his past couple and is drawn for a bold showing again.  Box Up 1.3.4.8.

Race 5 - Gun McBain can jump to the front and pinch this from box 2.  The old fellow is having his 129th  start tonight and is drawn to run a very cheeky race.  Hotham Lad sprouted wings last Sunday to run 2nd in the Strathalbyn Cup and if handy down the back is a huge chance.  Box Up 1.2.4.7.

Race 6 - The 1st of the semi-finals and the Cameron Butcher kennel should have a huge night, they have a strong hand in this with On Fire their main chance from box 2.  He has won 8 from his 12 career starts and should make it 9 wins tonight.  The kennel can nearly fill the trifecta with the Bekim Bale x Alana Blues litter.  Box Up 1.2.3.7.

Race 7 - Ken Gill has a more than handy one in Long Gully Gilly, he has won in cracking times at his past 2 starts and the wide draw of 7 will help him big time.  Buzz Box has been in good form but I would prefer her closer to the rails.  Add in Bekalia’s Freak who has a good turn of foot for the trifecta and adding big value for the first 4 I like Long Gully Emma.  Box Up 3.5.7.8.

Race 8 - We see Worm Burner in this event and as mentioned before what a huge run in last Fridays Melbourne Cup final, he went down by under a length after finding early trouble.  He should win and win well.  Wilba Beast will run a very cheeky race and is suited by his draw of 2.  Box Up 1.2.3.6.

Race 9, This is a toughie but I like the Paul Fagan trained Prancer Dancer, she is from WA and was a good winner at Gawler last start.  Blown Away has been hit and miss on box rise but is more than capable when on song.  Box Up 1.5.6.7.

Race 10 - Hi Eyecue was a good winner here from box 7 last start and gets the nod from Binky Bale, both have been in the money at their latest starts and are sure to be thereabouts.   Box Up 1.2.3.5.

Race 11 - The Murray kennel can go home on a winner with What’s Up Herbie, he has been a big improver in recent weeks and can send us home on a winning note.  Add in Black Arjay who is a new comer from interstate and has very good 600m form.   Box Up 3.4.7.8.

2016 BRIAN JOHNSTONE SEMI FINALS TONIGHT

Tonight we see the running of two semi-finals of the 2016 Brian Johnstone (Group Three).

The first semi-final features series favourite On Fire for Cameron Butcher who will be shooting for his 9th win in 13 starts. He has drawn perfectly in box 2 and looks very hard to beat.

In the second semi-final Long Gully Gilly has been super impressive in his last two winning performances and looks very hard to beat from box 7 which should suit.

The first four from each semi-final qualifies for the $37,500 Brian Johnstone Final on Thursday 1st December with the fastest fifth being declared the first reserve and the other fifth placegetter the second reserve. The box draw for the Final will take place on course tonight after the running of race 8.

The final part of this series will be the Gawler Classic 2016 to be run on Tuesday 13th and Sunday 18th December.

GREYHOUND OF THE YEAR ON FRIDAY 10TH FEBRUARY AT GAWLER

The date has been set for the Greyhound of the Year function at Gawler on Friday night 10th February 2017. It will be exciting to have our prestigious event at the Gawler venue for the first time with the awards looking very interesting this year.

TRIALS THIS WEEK

The Strathalbyn GRC advised that due to staffing issues there will be NO trials at Strathalbyn tomorrow night.

Saturday morning trials at Angle Park will be conducted as normal with both Catching Pen and FOL available however whilst the kennel house will be open the kennels themselves will be unavailable due to racing on Sunday night.

The Tuesday night trials (29/11) at Angle Park will be back to normal with FOL and Catching Pen available.

ANGLE PARK TO RACE ON SUNDAY

Angle Park will race this Sunday due to the upgrades occurring at Gawler with the Lure and Rail system.

The first of 12 races will be conducted at 5.08pm with the last at 8.52pm. It looks a very strong meeting on paper.

While the upgrade continues at Gawler ground staff have also completed a track turnover and made improvements to the empty out area for the greyhounds. It is hoped that our next race meeting will be conducted at Gawler on Sunday 4th December. We are on track to trial on Wednesday night 30th November and Thursday morning 1st December however this will depend on the finishing touches required.

BOOKING OF TUESDAY NIGHT TRIALS AT ANGLE PARK

Please be advised to encourage participants to use the online booking facility for Tuesday night trials have opened up for bookings an hour earlier than phone bookings.  You will therefore, be able to book online from 11.30am on the Monday prior to Tuesday night trials.  Being mindful that when booking online you can only book a maximum of 6 trials and then will have to ring the office from 12.30pm to book the remainder.  Our GRSA staff is available to provide support and training for those participants who require it, please contact GRSA to organise.

This came into effect from Tuesday 22nd November trial session.

For participants who wish to continue to book via the telephone please ensure you follow the below directions:

1.          DO NOT phone prior to 12.30pm as NO calls will be placed on hold and your call will not be answered prior to 12.30pm.  By calling prior to 12.30pm you are actually inconveniencing yourself as you may be disconnected or directed to another area as the telephone system will not let you que for a long period of time.

3.          No other queries will be answered to ensure a timely manner of answering the calls that are in que for booking trials.

4.          Please understand that our staff provides you with the best possible and earliest time available so they will not enter into a debate about the reasons why.

5.         DO NOT book more trials than required.  GRSA will be monitoring this situation and if required action may be taken against offenders.

Greyhound Racing SA Trainer Workshop Schedule

It is a requirement of all registered owner trainers and public trainers to attend one 3 hour workshop session. All efforts will be made to have workshops available however, they are subject to change depending on participant workshop bookings. AGRC MEMBERS LUCKY DOG DRAW

Reminder on how it works, each year we have drawn 4 names for each week’s Thursday APK race 8, next to each name is the box number of the dog you have drawn in Race 8.  If your box number happens to win Race 8, you can renew your membership next year (30th June) for half price. We have drawn 8 names for the Xmas function night so we will have at least one happy member on that night.

If you happen to own or train greyhounds racing on the date that your name has been drawn, you can choose to have your dogs drawn instead of the lucky box number and it works the same if your dog drawn happens to win.  It is up to you to notify an AGRC committee member on the night that you want to take up this option and we will randomly draw one of your dogs competing on the night.

AGRC Committee members are Alan Amezdroz, Barry Stewart, Petar Jovanovic, Melissa Trowbridge, Gabe Vistolli and Gavin Harris.
