TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

It looks to be another huge night of racing here at headquarters and we have a massive 12 event programme. There are several I like tonight at reasonable odds and the kennels to follow look to be the Murray and Rasmussen’s. The highlight for mine is a very strong 731m event which is race 3.

Race 1 - This is a good even event to kick off with and we will go with the ultra-consistent Tommy’s Tune out in box 6 he has a good turn of early pace and can bounce back into the winners circle. Mauricio will find this a lot easier than last start and is a must for trifecta punters. Box Up 2.4.6.7.

Race 2 - Nicole Newlyn looks to have a handy one in Communication, he tracked very wide here last start when 2nd behind Royal Bling, he can be tardy early but is strong. Kenzi will add value for the pick 4 along with the newcomer in Forlano for Lauren Harris. Box Up 1.2.4.8.

Race 3 - This is a smart 731m event and we see the return of Bogie Bekim who trounced his rivals over the 600m here last week in slick time and he should prove far to strong again. Caprice Monelli was very good at his SA debut with a good win here last start in 43.12, add in the Victorian visitor Micks Angel and we have a good race on our hands. Box Up 1.2.4.5.

Race 4 - Funky Monkey proved far too strong here last start when winning and should be right in the mix again from her draw of 8. Venture down to Rachel Zane who has early pace, she might be able to kick up early and nearly pinch this with an ounce of luck. Box Up 1.3.4.8.

Race 5 - This is over the 600m and Long Gully Gilly has been in terrific form of late and won over this trip 2 runs back when charging home to score. He will be hard to beat again on that effort, Sutton Steele will set the pace early and is a winner of 3 of his past 5 starts, add in Purpose Driven for the trifecta. Box Up 1.3.4.7.

Race 6 - We have a very open affair here and this is the 1st of my roughies in Mackinlay out in box 6, he doesn’t win many but loves to run a place and he should be at double figure odds. Dyna Edgar can be hit and miss early but will be doing his best work over the last 100m. Box Up 1.5.6.8.

Race 7 - Ruff State found a heap of trouble here last start when he missed a place but should gain a clear run here tonight with a quick beginner on his inside in Bathtub Teddy, both have strong chances. Harry Aztec is another who is capable with a clear run and is a chance at big odds. Box Up 2.3.4.7.

Race 8 - This looks a 2 dog race in On Fire who flew late here last week to run 2nd and the pacey Aston Kody who blitzed his rivals over the short in quick time last start at Gawler, both have very strong claims in this, add Rock Away for the trifecta. Box Up 1.3.4.8.

Race 9 - Let’s hope we are in front as this is a wide open affair and looks a good pick 4 event. Heading My Way is hit and miss but is well drawn down on the rails. Sally’s Girl gets the nod for mine but the draw is a worry, Box Up 2.4.6.7.

Race 10 - The early pace should come from last start winner Libby Raider down in box 2. Aston Boak and Loceryl out in box 8 all 3 look the main chances, looking for value for the pick 4 Allen Santo loves to run a place. Box Up 2.3.4.8.

Race 11 - Cyril Beast returned to the winners circle with a strong win here last start and is drawn for a bold showing. The Foster kennel had a win with Claretown Belle here from this draw last start and she carved out a very good run of 29.97 so she will be right in it at the finish on that run. Box Up 2.6.7.8.

Race 12 - We should be able to go home on a winner with Flying Mal for the Murray kennel, he has been racing well over the short of late and is boxed for a bold showing in this. Scottish Thistle will be running on strongly and is a must for the trifecta. Box Up 1.3.5.7.

GROUP 2 LAUNCHING PAD TRIALS TONIGHT

Both Alice’s Entity and Gangster Miss for trainer Tony Rasmussen will solo trial tonight before the first race in a lead up to the Group 2 Launching Pad heats next Thursday night at Sandown.

Tony took both Alice’s Entity and Gangster Miss to Sandown last Sunday in preparation for the Launching Pad series. Alice’s Entity ran very well after backing up from her Thursday night final win running (5.20,19.24,28.89, run home 10.65). Gangster Miss trialled in (5.18,19.05,29.88, run home 10.83). The track was considered to be .30 off as it was harrowed on the Friday. The best of day time was 29.66 so they both went very well at their first look at Sandown.

LOCAL CHAMPION WORM BURNER STEPS OUT TONIGHT IN VICTORIA

Group 1 National Champion hero Worm Burner will step out under the care of leading Victorian trainer Jason Thompson tonight at Sandown Park.

He has drawn box 7 in race 8 tonight due to jump at 9.01pm SA time so we wish the connections, Cameron and Yvonne Butcher the best of luck,

SA OWNED PAIR QUALIFY FOR GROUP 2 TRARALGON CUP ON SATURDAY NIGHT

Both Fabregal and  Don’t Kid Me qualified for the Group 2 Traralgon Cup Final on Saturday night after running terrific races in the heats last Saturday night.

Fabregal fresh from her success in the recent Mount Gambier Cup Final was transferred to the kennels of Lyn Smith from Robyn Mackellar. Owned by Terry McCallum from Tumby Bay she was gallant in defeat behind Extreme Magic who broke the track record. She has drawn perfectly in box 1 and looks a strong eachway chance. Don’t Kid Me owned by local racing personality Ray Fewings has plied his trade Interstate for a number of months now with great success. Trained by Victorian Steve White he has gone from strength to strength highlighted by his heat win where he held of the flying Jesaulenko in the run to the line. He has drawn box 8 which shouldn’t worry him due to his excellent early speed.

The Group 2 feature will be race 8 at 6.52 pm SA time and we wish both Terry and Ray the best of luck on Saturday night.

AGRC MEMBERS LUCKY DOG DRAW
Each year we have drawn 4 names for each week’s Thursday APK race 8, next to each name is the box number of the dog you have drawn in Race 8.  If your box number happens to win Race 8, you can renew your membership next year (30th June) for half price.

If you happen to own or train greyhounds racing on the date that your name has been drawn, you can choose to have your dogs drawn instead of the lucky box number and it works the same if your dog drawn happens to win.  It is up to you to notify an AGRC committee member on the night that you want to take up this option and we will randomly draw one of your dogs competing on the night. AGRC Committee members are Alan Amezdroz, Barry Stewart, Petar Jovanovic, Melissa Trowbridge, Gabe Vistolli and Gavin Harris.
