TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

We have 2 heats of the 2017 Stayers Cup tonight which are races 3 and 4 on the programme as usual the 731m events are a highlight with punters, so it makes for an interesting series. The kennel to follow for the night looks to be the Cameron Butcher kennel as they have several strong chances throughout the evening headed by their local champ in On Fire.

Race 1 - In recent weeks we have been kicking off on a winning note and we will stick with Forlano out in box 7, he is a pacey type who loves a wide draw. Springvale Hope is racing well and will run a cheeky race from her rails draw. Box Up 2.3.4.7.

Race 2 - I like the book ends in this as they both have the pace to be 1 and 2 at the winning post, both are in fine form so they are hard to split. Add Victa Ollie who has been around the mark in recent runs and he is more than capable with a clear run. Box Up 1.2.3.8.

Race 3 - The 1st of the Distance heats and the 2 main chances look to be McIvor Verna who is in slashing form and Zipping Zeus who rattled home over the top of them in a 600m here last week in slick time, they will be very hard to beat in this. Pure Presence is the inform runner with 4 wins from his last 5 for the trifecta. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 4 - The 2nd of the Distance heats and this is wide open even though there are the 7 runners, I will go with the Troy Murray kennel with their interstate runner in Bamba Lam Barney. He was a last start winner at the Meadows and is sure to be well tried on his SA debut. Caprice Monelli is better than recent form suggests and will be right in the finish, add Purpose Driven and Springvale Bryne who is more than capable on her night. Box Up 2.3.4.7.

Race 5 - Windmill Haze missed the start here last start but flew home late to finish 5th here behind Aitch, he was in superb form prior and will be very hard to beat despite his poor draw. Aston Ah Chee has tremendous early pace and from his rails draw won’t be far away. Box Up 1.5.7.8.

Race 6 - The Cameron Butcher team are high flying and they have a big chance with Buzz Box in this, she was very unlucky here last start when 3rd after finding early trouble from box 7, she can nearly lead from here and be hard to beat.  Royal Bling can be hit and miss but is strong and is a must for the trifecta. Box Up 2.3.4.7.

Race 7 - Writing about kennels that are high flying how about the Ben Rawlings kennel, he has been winning nearly every feature including the meat raffles at the two wells tavern. Marley Bale is well drawn out in box 8 and should be able to carve across them early and win. Zipping Gator will be rattling home late as will Lizard Spock. Box Up 2.3.4.8.

Race 8 - He should win his 9th in a row and that is ON FIRE, he is by far the best dog gracing the Angle Park loam at the moment and is great for the industry, he comes from behind and has terrific track sense and looks far too good again. Allen Terminator has pace and is drawn to run a bold race, add Cairnlea Kenny who is ultra-consistent. Box Up 1.2.3.8

Race 9 - The Butcher juggernaut can continue if Regal Looper can get a clear run, he made short work of them here last week when leading throughout from box 2 and appears one of the main chances again.  There is an interesting runner in Mojito Mayhem who broke the track record at Mount Gambier last start and he has won from this draw here in the past in quick time. Cyclone Clifford looks to be the improver from a favourable draw but needs to begin better .Box Up 1.4.5.8

Race 10 and this is a 600m event with the Angela Modra trained Sutton Steele looking the one to beat, he has the pace to lead and loves this trip. Von Dousa has been racing well at Gawler and is more than capable when on song. Trifecta in order 8.2.6.4

Race 11 - Lauren Harris rarely goes home without a winner and the kennel can end the night on a high when Whispering Soul salutes, she ran a terrific 2nd behind kennel mate Brick Lane here last start after leading early and should find this more to her liking. Bogie Miracle returned to the winner’s circle with a good win last start at Port Augusta and the country trip should enhance his chances. Box Up 1.5.7.8

KENNEL CAPERS ONCE A MONTH

The monthly Kennel Capers for June was released two weeks ago so make sure you grab yourself a copy. Remember to keep up to date with weekly updates and media releases using the GRSA website at www.grsa.com.au.

For up to the minute information provide GRSA with your mobile phone details for text message updates for all Industry news.

LICENSE RENEWALS ARE DUE

Please be advised that your license renewal will be due on Friday 30th June 2017. We have sent out renewals to those requiring to update their license.

Please check your license card to confirm the expiry date.

With the date being the 30th June it is vital that you license before the cut of time to ensure no greyhounds will miss a run. As an example it you are nominating for any race meeting in July  you would want to have renewed by Friday 23rd June to guarantee no issues.

Check with Owners locally and from Interstate as this has been an issue in recent years and get the licenses renewed well and truly before June 30.

Please contact the GRSA Integrity Department for queries or questions.

FUTURITY PAYMENTS DUE TOMORRROW

Owners of SA Bred greyhounds are reminded that the next batch of Futurity payments are due TOMORROW (Friday 23rd June 2017). There will be three series for which payments will need to be made.

The payments due are:

Classic 2017 – Final Payment Pups Born July 15 to Dec 15

This payment is for greyhounds for which the first two Sustaining Payments have been made. The Final Payment is $121 per greyhound.

Breeders 2018 – Second Payment - Pups Born Jan 16 to June 16

This payment is for greyhounds for which the first Sustaining Payment or a “one-off” Final payment was made last December. The Second Sustaining Payment is $55 per pup or a Final Payment of $121 can be made at this stage.

Classic 2018 – First Payment - Pups Born July 16 to Dec 16

Finally the First Payment is due for Classic 2018. All SA Bred greyhounds born in the above period are eligible to make this payment. The First Payment is $27.50 per pup or a “one-off” Final payment of $121 can be made at this stage.

To assist all owners of Futurity eligible pups, reminders have been posted. It is perhaps a good idea to make the payment as soon as you can, so it doesn’t slip your mind and the closing date passes. If you have sold a pup/s we would ask if you can either forward on the information or let Caralyn Fielden know at GRSA and she can follow it up. If you haven’t received a reminder and you think you should have, contact us asap.

TIME GRADING UPDATE

GRSA has been working at achieving some of the outcomes from the recent Grading Review Panel meeting held on 28th April 2017.

Some items like cascading reserves need to be implemented by Ozchase however some do not.

We will be able to include greyhounds with 0 – 2 starts so every greyhound nominated will be eligible for consideration. The table below details the rating for 0-2 start greyhounds -

“A greyhound with 0 starts will be given a rating of 10 as a starting point. At its second start it will have the average of 10 and its first start. At its third start, it will be the average of the 2 lowest ratings, including the base rating of 10. ie if had 12, 12 from 2 starts, it will be 10 + 12 / 2 = 11”

For “Best to Worst” Time Grading we will be able to include higher graded greyhounds into mixed events if there are insufficient nominations for a single race. The conditions of this are listed below -

“A Grade 4 can be mixed with a Grade 5 however a Grade 3 will not unless there is also a Grade 4 greyhound selected for that time graded race”

GRSA has also started to program some category Time Grading meetings. These meetings are for greyhounds that are Maidens, 1 – 4 wins and 5 plus wins all time graded “lowest to highest”. Please refer to the All Tracks calendars for details.
