TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

It looks to be a great night of racing here at headquarters tonight and the highlight is definitely the two heats of the SA Distance Championship, race’s 3 and 4 on the programme along with the Anniversary Cup heats. The Rasmussen kennel should have a huge night and let’s try and recoup a few dollars back after the Easter break. Don’t forget all events are Trifecta and First 4 races.

Race 1 - The Rob Harnas kennel has a handy one in Shaq Pack, he is a pacey type who has won 3 of his past 4 here and Gawler in handy times and he appears well drawn and can kick us off on a winning note. Venetian Mask can be hit and miss but is very smart with a clear run. Box Up 2.3.5.6.

Race 2 – The Ray Murray trained Blaxland is getting stronger with every run over the 500m and is drawn to give this a big shake from his rails draw so we will put him on top, venture out to Winsome Summer out in box 8 and she can improve  with an ounce of luck early. Box Up 1.5.7.8.

Race 3 and the first of the Distance heats and we see the return of Bogie Bekim, it was a big run when he ran 2nd last Saturday night in the Association Cup Final at Wentworth Park. He should prove too strong if he hasn’t got jet lag. Micks Angel won here 2 runs back at his first look and the track and the Victorian visitor is certainly the improver. Box Up 1.2.5.8.

Race 4 is the second of the heats and this has several chances. I’m sticking with Springvale Bryne who has been knocking on the door over the 600m, she loves this trip and can lead and win. Hukanui was a last start winner here and is drawn to run another cheeky race. Box Up 1.4.7.8.

Race 5 - This is a wide open affair but I will stick with Regal Looper who won here last week in a handy 29.94 from box 6, he can be hit and miss on box rise but musters quickly. Huayra is very capable when on song and is worth putting in the trifecta. Box Up 4.5.6.7.

Race 6 – This is the first heat of the Anniversary Cup and I like the inside 3 in this and we will put Molly Be Nimble on top on her recent efforts, she can carve out quick times when out in front and looks the likely leader. Signal Peak has won 3 of his past 5 all in good times and is a must for the pick 4, add in Dyna Keitaro who will be rattling home late. Box Up 1.2.3.8.

Race 7 – The second heat of the Anniversary Cup and the Rasmussen kennel has a very smart one in Striker Klinsman, he has won 3 of 3 since crossing the border all in quick times and he looks very hard to beat again  even from the poor draw. On Fire only needs early luck from his wide draw and would take a power of beating, he has a terrific strike rate at this venue and will be right in the mix. Box Up 1.2.5.7.

Race 8 - As mentioned earlier I think the Murry Bridge kennel of the Rasmussen’s will have a big night and they can nearly trifecta this race. Alice’s Entity can lead their charge from box 2 as she is in superb form and will be very hard to beat and looks one of the better bets of the night. Loceryl loves running a place as does Rock Away, add in Aston Apollo for the pick 4. Box Up 1.2.3.4.

Race 9 - Bill Wudarczyk has been in the industry a long time and he has always had a handy one in his kennel, you can add Hurucan to that who has won 3 from 3 all at this venue, he looks well drawn of the track and looks the likely leader. Molly’s Entity is hit and miss early but is a improver. Box Up 1.4.5.7.

Race 10 - Tear It Down is drawn for a bold showing here and he only needs to be handy early and hold the fence. Danyo’s Tom is the big improver and will find this a little easier than his past couple, Scottish Thistle will be charging home late and is a must for the pick 4. Box Up 1.2.3.5.

Race 11 - Let’s hope we can go home on a winning note with Alpha Castor, he has won at his only 2 SA starts and should keep on improving. Raven Sky won from this draw over the short and will be amongst the early leaders,  add in Another Mai for value. Box Up 1.3.4.8.

SA DISTANCE AND SA ANNIVERSARY CUP HEATS TONIGHT

Tonight at Angle Park we will see the running of two heats of the SA Distance Championship over 731m and two heats of the Bargain Steel Centre SA Anniversary Cup over 515m.
We have drawn together an outstanding line up of local speedsters and stayers along with some Interstate flavour with the racing expected to be tight and competitive.
The first 4 from each heat will qualify for next weeks finals with the Distance Championship worth $14,500 including unplaced and the Anniversary Cup worth $13,750.
The box draw for the Distance Championship will take place oncourse after the running of race 5 while the Anniversary Cup Final box draw will be conducted after race 8 tonight.

TRIAL BOOKINGS FOR TUESDAY NIGHT AT ANGLE PARK (ANZAC DAY)

This Tuesday (25/4) is Anzac Day and is a Public Holiday however GRSA in support of participants will trial at Angle Park as per normal.

This does represent an issue for bookings of trials due to no administration staff working on the Public Holiday. GRSA will move the bookings forward to accommodate the Tuesday with the procedure below to be followed –
Online Bookings will open at 11.30am tomorrow (Friday 21/4)
Phone Bookings will open at 12.30pm tomorrow (Friday 21/4)
Online and Phone Trial Bookings will close at 4.00pm on Monday (24/4)
There will be NO qualifying trials on Tuesday night (25/4)
Trainers who have not booked and wish to trial can turn up however will be conducted after all bookings have been conducted

GRSA believes this is the best possible way to manage the trial bookings for Tuesday night due to the Anzac Day public holiday.

EXPANSION OF ALTERNATE LURE TRIALS ON SATURDAY MORNINGS

For several weeks GRSA has been conducting a limited trial of the blue, yellow and white lure which is currently in use in Victoria, WA and NSW.
Whilst the initial trial has been well received by those trainers participating, the lack of widespread participation has limited the volume of feedback required for GRSA to decide upon the future of the lure.
As a result, GRSA will conduct two full trial sessions using only the new lure. These will occur on consecutive Angle Park Saturday morning trial sessions on 22nd and 29th April, 2017.
GRSA recognises that trainers may be reluctant to participate in the trial, therefore the decision has been made to make these completely free sessions.

Details of Alternative Lure Trials
Where: Angle Park
When: Saturday 22nd April, 2017
Saturday 29th April, 2017
Time: Normal Saturday morning session from 7.00am
Cost: Free

Following these full trial sessions using the alternative lure, GRSA will then invite feedback from trainers which will then be discussed by the Industry Consultative Group (ICG) at their next meeting on Friday 5th May, 2017.
The intention of these trials is to explore why the blue, yellow and white lure would be unsuitable for introduction in SA. Local greyhounds competing interstate have performed well behind this type of lure (Worm Burner and Bogie Bekim) which suggests greyhounds will adapt quickly to the different lure type.

BOOKING ON LINE FOR SATURDAY MORNING TRIALS AT ANGLE PARK

GRSA introduced the Online Booking process for Saturday morning trials recently.
Bookings will be taken as per normal by phone and online at 12.30pm on the Thursday before. Like Tuesday night these will be timeslots giving participants guaranteed bookings and allowing a smoother process. Trials on Saturday mornings start at 7.00am as normal with 25 minute blocks likely to go to around 10.30am. GRSA will monitor the bookings and attendance and may vary conditions and timeslots as required.
