Angle Park Racing Preview - 2/11/2017
by The Shadow
With a massive 12 event programme tonight, we have 6 heats of the Leigh Rogers Feature over the sprint they look to be very open and will make for good betting events. We also have a distance affair later in the night which is race 9 with 7 starters and that is also very even so it makes for a terrific night of punting. The kennel to follow for mine is the Rasmussen kennel as they have several new starters in their team and don’t forget the $10,000 Guaranteed Trifecta pool for Race 1 tonight.
Race 1 - We can kick off with an early winner with the Petar Jovanovic trained Cairnlea Strider; he has won his last 3 here all in good fashion and looks the measuring stick. Baa Man will appreciate the inside draw and should run into the placings as will Phoebe Allen. Box Up 1.4.6.7.
Race 2 - The powerful Ben Rawlings kennel looks to have a handy one in Bell Of Eden, the young sprinter has won 5 from 8 starts and saluted the judge here 2 runs back in 30.13. Highbury Hustle can be hit and miss early but does his best work late and should figure in the finish. Box Up 3.5.7.8.
Race 3 - The Rawlings kennel can nearly have a race to race double if Doppelganger comes out running here, he can be hit and miss but when on the lure is very strong. Total Magic is a new comer in the Rasmussen team and has won 4 from 25 along with 6 placings in Victoria, he should be working home well and is a danger .Box Up 1.3.7.8.
Race 4 - There looks to be several chances in this but I will stick with Emerley Nolen from box 2, he won in a handy 30.13 two runs back from a rail draw in similar company. Hot Producer has terrific short course form at the Gawler circuit and should be able to run a cheeky race on current form. Box Up 1.2.5.6.
Race 5 - Dakota Dawn has run second in 4 of her last 5 outings and looks a big threat in this, she has a good turn of early pace which enhances her chances. Tony Rasmussen has another newcomer in Buddy’s Entity, he has a win and 3 placings next to him from just 7 career starts in Victoria and is sure to be well tried on his SA debut. Box Up 1.5.6.7.
Race 6 - The pace in this will come from the outside brigade so we will go with the Carole Scott trained Lonely Cowboy out in box 8, he should be able to carve across early and pinch this with luck. Springvale Cooke will be the one rattling home late and is a must for the trifecta punter as is Fast Fyfe who doesn’t win many but is always around the placings. Box Up 1.5.7.8.
Race 7 - The main chances will jump from the middle so they will need luck early, we will go with our best each way bet of the night in Larrikin Locky from box 5, he has won 3 of his past 5 and will be at handy odds. Paua To Kapau is in fine form as is Allen Oregan. Box Up 1.4.5.8.
Race 8 - Hukanui was a massive run here 2 runs back when winning in a slick 29.53 then he missed the jump and rattled home for a very nice 2nd behind Zipping Kane here last start, both of these runners are again in tonight event and must be put in our pick four, add Jacqui Blax who looks to be the early leader. Box Up 1.3.4.5.
Race 9 - This is the distance affair of the night and the main 2 look to be Kooka Jak and Springvale Carla, both finished 1 and 2 here last week and look very hard to separate. Velocity Lilly can pinch a place from her inside draw. Box Up 1.3.7.8.
Race 10 - We will need luck if we are behind as the last couple are very open but I will stick with another newcomer in Classy Diamond from Western Australia now in the care of Petar Jovanovic. He has won 11 of 50 along with 16 placings and is sure to be well suited to this grade here at Angle Park. San Tan Sam is back to his right distance tonight and can add some value to our trifecta. Box Up 1.2.6.8.
Race 11 - He has proven very costly in recent runs and that is Diego Bale out in box 8, he continues to miss the start but is more than capable to be on the pace early in this. Disaaci is a big chance despite his poor draw as is Lizard Spock. Box Up 4.5.6.8.
Race 12 - On a huge programme we can go home on a winner with Luca Bazooka who won from this draw 2 starts back in 29.97 and on that effort should prove very hard to beat again. Edison Bale should come out running from his wide draw and run a very cheeky race as will Sally’s Girl who loves to run in the top 3. Box Up 1.4.7.8.

GOTBA will present their Annual Coursing Awards at Angle Park tonight.
To be presented will be the SA Coursing Greyhound of the Year (Gangalla Fury – Nathan Hughes) and the Coursing Trainer of the Year (Ray Fewings). Unfortunately there is no feature race tonight due to a lack of nominations so GOTBA will look to reprogram this in the next few months.
LEIGH ROGERS GRADE 6 FEATURE HEATS TONIGHT
There are 6 heats of the Leigh Rogers Grade 6 feature tonight to be run over the 515m journey with some of the best young local talent looking to qualify for next Thursdays $9,920 Final on 9th November.
The series has been extremely well supported by the industry and exciting prospects Cairnlea Strider, Bell Of Eden, Doppelganger, Emerley Nolen, Rhynstone Teddy and Springvale Cooke will all be top chances in their heats to qualify.
With 6 heats only the winners and 2 fastest second placegetters will qualify for next weeks final. The box draw will be conducted oncourse tonight.
GRSA introduced this new race onto the feature race calendar in recognition of former long-time Food & Beverage Manager Leigh Rogers who lost his battle with a rare form of cancer late last year. Leigh is the husband of Rachael and father of three young girls and it will be great to see family members, current & former staff and participants alike recognise him on final night.

2018 GAWLER PRODUCE STAKES
The 2018 Gawler Produce Stakes will be run by GRSA in conjunction with the Gawler Greyhound Racing Club.
Once again we will offer guaranteed Final Stakemoney, which will be $22,000. The estimate for the total series prizemoney is $40,000, based on this years series. The series is for greyhounds whelped in 2016.
In 2018 we will again be offering additional incentives for trainers to nominate. A bonus will be offered to any greyhound which can win both the Produce Stake and the Gawler Gold Cup.
The jackpot will increase from $5,000 to $6,000 if the Gawler Cup this year is not won by Dream A Little.
The SA Bred bonus will also be continued; should the winner of the Final be SA bred, there will be a SA Bred bonus of $1,000 to the owner and $500 to the breeder.

Nomination Forms are available, along with the full list of conditions and the payment schedule.
* Nominations for the 2018 Gawler Produce will close on Friday 17th November with GRSA.
BOGIE BEKIM WINS GROUP 2 SKY RACING TOPGUN STAYERS
Last Saturday night Bogie Bekim for SA trainer Ben Rawlings upset Fanta Bale’s bid to become the second greyhound to reach $1,000,000 in prizemoney when he overpowered him in the final straight at The Meadows to win the Group 2 Topgun Stayers Invitational.
Bogie Bekim is already a Group 1 winner this year and has been Group 1 placed, but on Saturday night he was probably taking on the best field of stayers assembled in recent times which included not only Fanta Bale but Burn One Down and Ring The Bell and it was probably his best career win.
2017 AGRC/GRSA GREYHOUND AUCTION LAST SUNDAY
On what was a windy but warm Sunday last weekend the 2017 AGRC/GRSA Auction was conducted with 51 lots up for sale in front of a strong crowd at Angle Park.
35 lots were sold totalling just over $100,000 in sales with the average price per pup being $2,917. Top prices in the Auction were a Dyna Double One x Power Merc dog knocked down to vendor Clint Trengove for $8,000 and a dog by Dyna Double One x Irish Keepsake bought into new ownership by Dwayne Jiggins for $7,000.
The full results of the 2017 Auction are available on the GRSA website.
Thanks must go to the vendors and purchasers at the Auction along with the hard working committee of the Adelaide Greyhound Racing Club who ensured the Auction ran smoothly on the day. The GRSA Administration team, Stewards & Kennel house team, Finance team and Maintenance crew ensured all boxes were ticked with the venue and the administrative process was conducted professionally. Special thanks to Caralyn Fielden who worked tirelessly in producing the catalogue and throughout the event. Thank you to Dr. Chris Doyle who provided his Veterinary services on the day and also to the Vietnam Vets who ran the BBQ throughout the day. No Auction can be conducted without an Auctioneer and Ray Fewings again this year did a wonderful job in the selling of these pups.
GRSA and the AGRC will be conducting a full review of the Auction as we have done over the past few years to see what issues arose from this year and how it can be improved for next year.
ONLINE & PHONE BOOKINGS OF TRIALS FOR ANGLE PARK AND GAWLER FROM 11.30AM
GRSA received feedback in regard to the Online Trial booking process for both Gawler Wednesday and Angle Park Tuesday and Saturday trial sessions.
This process of online bookings is fully supported by the ICG and GRSA Board and will continue to grow over time.
- To encourage the move from 100% phone bookings to online GRSA made the decision to separate the booking times from 12.30pm, to 11.30am for online and 12.30pm for phone. This has worked successfully and reduced the number of phone calls dramatically. This encourages participants to manage their own bookings.
However GRSA believes that the separation is now no longer required so both online and phone bookings will now be at 11.30am for trial sessions.
It was decided to go to 11.30am due to the commitment participants have made to the online process and worked their schedule around this time being at home or near their device to book.
Whilst having the bookings at the same time the trial booking phone line will still be 08 8243 7172. No trials will be accepted on any other phone line; participants will be queued as normal and will not be taken before 11.30am. Our staff member will attempt to book your phone trials in a timely manner bearing in mind participants will be booking online at the same time. I would encourage all participants to move to the online process as this is quicker, easier and they can have the flexibility to manage the process themselves.
It is important for all participants to realise that at any point from 11.30am when the trials open to around 3.30pm the day of the trial session (or day before for Saturday) they can log on or ring up and manage their bookings. They may be able to move earlier or later if there has been a cancellation etc, it really does provide an option if their time is unsuitable.
ANGLE PARK SLIPPING TRACK
With the warmer weather coming GRSA has increased the amount of water being put on the Angle Park slipping track.
The slipping track will have the sprinklers on from 1pm to 2pm daily. We believe this is the best time to water with the least amount of activity.
HOT WEATHER POLICY
A reminder to trainers with the hot weather coming to make sure they are aware of the updated conditions relating to the Hot Weather Policy.
This policy is available on the GRSA website and also at the track.

NOTIFICATION OF TRAINING AMENDMENT & CLEARANCE OF GREYHOUNDS
Trainers are reminded of their obligation to notify GRSA within 3 working days of a greyhound coming into or leaving their kennel (Rule 105(4)(i)). This is a requirement for all greyhounds regardless of where bred. We have had a number of trainers recently put in training amendments late the night prior to nominations closing at 9am the following day, this practice can lead to your nomination not being accepted or being unable to nominate online should any issues arise the following morning.
Trainers are also leaving it to the night before nominations close to have greyhounds “checked off”. This practice can also lead to your nomination not being accepted or being unable to nominate online should any issues arise. It is therefore in the trainer’s best interest to have lodged with GRSA the training amendment and clearance of the greyhound a number of days prior to wishing to nominate the greyhound. It is not GRSA’s responsibility to ensure that the paperwork is processed within ½ hour, which is the amount of time available to have it processed before nominations close at 9am.
COMPLETION OF PAPERWORK
Participants are reminded of their obligation to ensure that when lodging paperwork that it is fully completed and payment is made at the time of lodgement.
GRSA is here to assist should you be unsure of how to complete any paperwork however it is not our responsibility to arrange for its completion, nor is it our responsibility to ensure that it is lodged. Therefore, please ensure when lodging any paperwork eg, Transfer of Ownerships, Litter Registrations etc that they are fully completed and paid for and lodged within a timely manner.
BREEDERS SUPPORT UPDATES
In September last year in response to inquiries about the changes to the Breeders Support Program taking effect in April 2016 Greyhound Racing SA advised the changes below.
These changes are in support of breeder viability and continues increased spending on animal welfare and integrity initiatives.
Changes listed below:
Breeder Support Program
The following changes to the Breeder Support Program have been implemented:
1. Combined claim limit of $800 for all veterinary and transport expenses
2. Removal of the advanced application process for the breeders rebate now that both sires and breeding females must be registered
3. Removal of the cap on litters in anticipation of national (tiered) breeder licensing
SA Bred Maiden Payment - $1,000 if whelped in 2016
The SA bred maiden payment rewards participants that get a greyhound to the track to win a race. GRSA has committed to dramatically increase this payment from $175 to $1,000 ($500 breeder/$500 owner) on 1st July, 2017. This will result in all greyhounds that are whelped in 2016 being eligible for this support.

You can book trials via text MSG / or call Yvonne King at the Club on 0407 334 349 between 9am and 11am on the day of the trials.
