TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

It’s a huge night of racing tonight, we have our State Finals of the UBET Nationals in races 6 and 8.   Race 6 is the distance event, there is a more than a handy line up, it is very hard to go past the Gavin Harris performer in Springvale Bryne, but we all know what can happen in Finals. Venture to the UBET Sprint in race 8 and this looks to be an absolute cracker!!   Worm Burner keeps on winning but he has enormous opposition coming from Fabregal and Marlow Brown.

Race 1 and we have a couple of interstate visitors in Cavalcade and Tuxedo Black from the Azzopardi kennel.  Both have good form and will finish in the money.  Paddy MacBain is well drawn and is a chance of running into the trifecta.  Box up 1.2.3.5

Race 2 - Caustic Bale found a heap of trouble here last start and flashed home to run 4th.  He looks well placed in this and should take a power of beating from the rails draw.  Fusaichi Kahn led them a merry dance and held on to win in 29.88.  He is having his 107th start tonight and will be right in the mix again.  Box up 3.4.5.7.

Race 3, Team Roper will start the punters elect and with his early pace will give them something to catch from box 6.  Winthrop Flyer is in top form but box 5 can be a bit tricky, but he is still a must for pick 4 punters.  I like Rockstar Lisa at handy each way odds as she is more than capable when on the lure.  Box Up 2.3.5.6.

Race 4, this is a very open affair as there are several chances.  It’s hard to go past Harbourmaster in box 1 on his last start win here in 29.91.  BUT Ruff State is very smart when on song and he is another who is well drawn.  Add in Urana Roman and Anti Dentite for the First 4.  Box Up 1.2.3.4.

Race 5 – Mrs. Bubbles had plenty of support over the 731m here last week but faded to run 5th.  She is back to her pet distance tonight over the 600m where she has won 3 of 4 and looks very hard to beat.  All A Blaze is a visitor form over the border and she is a last winner at Sandown and appears the big danger.  Box Up 1.3.4.7.

Race 6 The UBET STATE FINAL over the 731m and as mentioned before Springvale Bryne looks very hard to beat.  She proved too strong in the run home and went on to win by over 5L last start.   She has the early pace to jump to the front and win again and add to 8 wins over this trip at this venue. Here Comes Henry can run another cheeky race and run into the placings again as can She’s A Looper.  Box Up 2.4.5.6.

Race 7, Scorching is knocking on the door and he flew home to run 2nd in 30.01 from this draw.  He needs to improve his box manners but is right in the mix again.  Dodge The Storm has been racing well over the short and is my pick at handy odds.  He might be able to jump to the front and pinch this, add in Matilda Taylor who has pace and loves this draw.  Box Up 1.2.5.7.

Race 8 The Final of the UBET STATE SPRINT Final and can he win his 10th in a row and that is Worm Burner for the Cameron Butcher camp.  He has a career record of 26 wins and 9 placings from his 41 starts he can come from behind or lead he just needs an ounce of luck early and he can win again.  Fabregal looked the winner into the back but was run down over the last 50m last start.  She has been well travelled of late and is another who has a tremendous record of 23 wins and 12 placings from just 37 career starts.  She loves this draw and was a slick winner at Sandown from this draw late last month.  Add in Marlow Brown who has been ultra-consistent and will be carving across early.  Box Up 1.2.7.8.

Race 9, I have been tipping him in recent weeks and that is Regal Looper, he has worked back into form but we won’t get any big odds about him tonight.  He likes to track a bit of the fence but he can kick through and salute.  Seeking Justice will be running on late as the newcomer in Tullabung Honey for the Murnane kennel.  Box Up 1.2.3.4

Race 10, He won the Champion Puppy Final at his last start in 29.96 from box 6 and that is Optic Blast.  He should lead and win again from a favorable draw and looks a good thing for mine. Live To Dream ran home well to run a place here from this draw last start.  Add in Sheez Stunning who hasn’t missed a cheque at her last five runs.  Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 11, Let’s hope we are in front as this is a toughie.  The main two hopes look to be Hairy Hairdreser and Gnasher, both are more than capable and are in form.  Add in Ritas Kabin at big value who tends to find a heap of trouble in her races.  Box Up 1.3.4.7

GAWLER SHOW DATES

August means that it is coming up to Gawler Show time, so some Gawler meetings will be transferred to Strathalbyn and Angle Park this year.

This year the Annual Gawler Show will be held on the weekend of Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th August. Racing on Sunday night 28th August will be at Strathalbyn. Racing on Tuesday 30th August will be at Angle Park with this meeting being an Angle Park Provincial (APD) fixture with normal Tuesday prizemoney and will be raced with the Finish On Lure. Racing on Friday 26th August will be at Mount Gambier and we will off course have the National Finals at Angle Park on Saturday 27th August.

Trials will be cancelled at Gawler on Wednesday 24th August and Thursday 25th August due to the Show preparations. We will hopefully have the track ready to trial again on Wednesday 31st August, but this will be dependent on the weather over the show weekend. There will be trials as per normal at Angle Park on Tuesday 23rd August however due to the National Finals at Angle Park on Saturday 27th August there will be NO trials in the morning due to setting up for the event.

We have programmed another trial session at Angle Park on Thursday morning 25th August starting at 7am.
