TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

On Fire would have to be the most consistent and quickest greyhound racing here in South Australia as we speak and tonight he fronts up in race 8 on the programme and looks a special once again. He stopped the clock here last week in a slick 29.44 and from box 2 tonight he looks far too good, other highlights for the night is a very good 600m event which is race 5 and the Rasmussen kennel has their two smart performers engaged.

Race 1 - it’s a terrific betting race to kick off with as there looks to be several chances, Jay’s Ace is the inform runner but he can be hit and miss on box rise but he still looks the one to beat for mine. Linco Bale will be doing his best work late and is very smart with a clear run. Box Up 1.3.4.7.

Race 2 - Blaxland has the pace to lead and the Murray kennel has him firing at the moment so we will put him on top. Edison Bale loves to run a place and he should add a bit of value to our first four. Blue Murray won from a wide draw here last start and is a must for the trifecta punter. Box Up 1.2.6.8.

Race 3 - All the main chances have drawn poorly but they should still figure in the mix on their recent form. Hurucan has been in the money in 4 of his last 5 starts at this venue and appears one of the better chances as does Communication. Add in Zipping Luna at good value. Box Up 2.4.5.7.

Race 4 - Shimatron had very good support on his debut here last week and ran a handy 2nd from box 3, he should only improve and be very hard to toss. Allen Terminator has pace and terrific short course form so don’t be surprised if he pinches this, add Heading My Way and Mauricio for the minors. Box Up 2.4.6.7.

Race 5 - This is a terrific 600m event and as mentioned before the Rasmussen kennel has two strong contenders in Caprice Monelli and Striker Klinsman both can run quick times when out in front and are a must for the first four. Allen Oregon has won 3 on the trot and is in the powerful Rawlings kennel. Box Up 1.2.6.8.

Race 6 - Dyna Keitaro looks one of the better bets on the programme, he is drawn of the track but that shouldn’t be a worry as he is all class when on song. Regal Looper can’t be left out as he will be rattling home late as will Cyclone Clifford down on the fence. Box Up 3.5.6.8.

Race 7 - The Cameron Butcher kennel can have a race to race double if Purpose Driven salutes from box 4, she is in fine form with 2 wins over the 600m of late, she drops back to the sprint here but class should prevail. Add in Rosie Allen and Sweeping Strikes for the placings. Box Up 1.4.6.8.

Race 8 - On Fire should make it 4 in a row tonight, he made short work of a quality field here last week when winning by over 7 lengths in a sensational 29.44. Dyna Edgar looks a place chance and will be working home late, add High Eden Snow who is very capable when out in front. Box Up 1.2.3.6.

Race 9 - This is a toughie with several chances, I lean towards Mako for Lauren Harris, he won here last start from box 4 leading throughout and from his wide draw tonight looks one of the main chances. Rock Away is hit and miss on box rise and has proven costly in the past but she is worth putting in the trifecta. Box Up 1.4.5.8.

Race 10 - The Rasmussen kennel has a handy one in Canya Sassy, she has been in the money in 5 of her last 6 starts here and should prove too strong again from box 8. Oh No Beta has pace and is well drawn out wide. Box Up 4.6.7.8.

Race 11 - I like one in this at good odds in Jules Marlow, he hasn’t beaten a runner home in his last 2 here but when on song would win this with a leg in the air. Chief Bale is well drawn down on the rails and is a chance for the first four. Box Up 1.4.6.7.

LOCAL STAYING STAR BOGIE BEKIM IN SANDOWN CUP HEATS TONIGHT

The Ben Rawlings trained Bogie Bekim will be competing tonight in the heats of the rich Group 1 Sandown Cup series in Victoria.

Local staying star Bogie Bekim has drawn box 4 in race 3 (7.22pm SA time) and is quoted as one of the favourites. He has trailed brilliantly at Angle Park and Sandown in preparation and he looks in the sort of form that won him the Group 1 Galaxy in Perth earlier in the year.

There will be plenty of other interest for South Australia when SA owned and Bred, Fabregal steps out in race 4 at 7.43pm (Sapphire Crown Heat 2). She has drawn box 6 and has won her last three starts so looks hard to beat while SA Owned and Bred, Don’t Kid Me take’s on the open Group dogs in race 6 at 8.25pm in the Harrison Dawson heats. He has drawn the car park again in box 8 but has the speed to offset the wide draw.

Good luck to all concerned.

LURE TRIALS – NEXT STAGE

After feedback from participants regarding the recent trial of the Vic/WA/NSW lure, the maintenance team have been working on a new lure design for the next stage of trialling.

The objective will now be to re-create the existing SA lure in the colours blue, yellow and white. The team has recently purchased some sheepskins which have been dyed to the required colours. From these skins, a lure will be created as similar to the existing lure as possible.

Initially the trialling of this lure will occur at the following trial sessions at Angle Park:
Saturday 20th May, 2017 (Free)
Saturday 27th May, 2017 (Free)

Following these trials and after gaining feedback from participants, GRSA will look to undertake trials at other tracks to give all participants the option to trial behind the lure. However this will only occur once there is a general view that the design is suitable for racing and trialling and no more modifications are necessary.

It is expected that once a determination on the lure type has been finalised, the possibility of a longer lure arm will be explored via a very similar process.

SHANE MCQUEEN MEMORIAL IN EARLY JUNE

GOTBA NEWS

After consultation with the GOTBA some of their races have reverted back to 8 dog events rather than all 4 dog events as was conducted for their first two meetings.

With the Club receiving strong nominations the below criteria has been agreed for their meetings –
Juvenile, Juvenile/Maidens and Maidens (that have not won on the circle will all be graded as 4 dog events). This will protect the more inexperienced greyhounds.
Maidens (that have won 1 or more races on the circle), Novice, 1 stake, open etc will be graded as 8 dog events

This is all still dependent upon nominations received. The club will run 16 dog events for the Waterloo Cup, Oaks and Derby as per normal, depending upon nominations.

The GOTBA’s next meeting will be this Sunday 21st May.

BOOKING ON LINE FOR SATURDAY MORNING TRIALS AT ANGLE PARK

GRSA will monitor the bookings and attendance and may vary conditions and timeslots as required.

After the most recent ICG meeting GRSA will implement online bookings for trials at Gawler on Wednesday nights. This should happen in the next month. Full details will be provided once the setup is completed.
