TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

The Spring weather has finally arrived and let’s hope that helps us back a few winners on tonight’s programme. We have a handy 731m event which is race 3, a very strong 600m which is race 9 and several terrific sprint events.  We see the likes of Fabregal, Wilba Beast and Marlow Brown later in the night.

Race 1 and Rhynstone Jetta is knocking on the door.  He is well drawn down on the fence and just needs to stay out of trouble in the run to the first turn to win.  Bounce Pass can improve and is worth putting in the trifecta at big odds.  Box Up 1.2.3.6

Race 2, this has several chances however I am leaning towards Allen Santo out in box 6.  He is a handy beginner and was an eye catching 4th here last start behind Coast.  Rockstar Billy has been very disappointing of late but should find this more to his liking.  Add in Paddy Macs and Garry McBain for the first 4.  Box Up 1.2.6.7

Race 3, we have 6 runners over the 731m and the smaller the field we should see more upsets like last week, when Go You Girl rattled home to win at each way odds. Parsec Bale will start the punters elect and is well drawn out in box 7.  She will be high flying late.  Danyos Tom will lead and nearly pinched the race last week so Box Up 1.4.7.8.

Race 4, this is a wide open affair with at least 4 chances, I like Cash For Jam.  He doesn’t win many but loves to run a place and tonight he is a chance of breaking through, Stack ‘Em Fast is a likely improver out in box 8 as is Elisha’s Delight.  Box Up 1.3.6.8.

Race 5 - quality event this one and we see the pacey Fabregal in box 5.  She looks the likely leader and will take beating.  The Janice Jones youngster High Eden Snow is facing his toughest test to date but on recent form will be right in the finish.  Add in Fusaichi Kahn who has had a couple of weeks off.  Box Up 1.3.5.8.

Race 6, the Rasmussen kennel rarely goes home without a winner and Blown Away is back in grade tonight and is drawn for a bold showing in box 2.  Zipping Gator has only had the 1 start since crossing the border and is sure to be well primed for his city debut.  Box Up 1.2.6.8.

Race 7, how good is this event, Wilba Beast is on fire of late with 4 slick wins in his last 5 outings.  He is drawn to kick up again and when in front is very hard to beat.  Marlow Brown continues to find one better every week but he is a must for the trifecta as he is ultra consistent.  Add in Ruff State out wide and the pacey Crisis Bale.  Box Up 1.3.6.8.

Race 8, Ben Rawlings has two strong chances in this with Caustic Bale and Dyna Keitaro.  Both are very strong over the last 100m and should figure in the money.  Mrs Bubbles was a good winner here last week but will need to be at her best to cross from the wide draw.  Box Up 4.5.7.8.

Race 9, this is the 600m affair of the night and Barely’s Rhythm should start the punters elect, she can be hit and miss on box rise but loves this trip and will be thundering home.  Backpacker is an improver and the small field should suit so don’t be surprised if he pinches this.  Box Up 1.2.6.8

Race 10 - Chappie Bale gets his chance to finally breakthrough, he is only a moderate beginner but is strong and the rails draw should help his chances.  Nussin Much is the interesting runner in the Paul Barry kennel he was a handy 3rd over the 416m at Strathalbyn at his only SA start with 3 wins and 10 places from his 19 starts looks more than capable of winning.  Box Up 3.4.6.8.

Race 11, the Johnstone kennel should go home on a winner with Dancing Dollars out in box 7.  She was run down here last week after leading from box 8, she might be able to hold on in this. Add Mackinlay and Iroh Bale for the minors.  Box Up 2.6.7.8.

BRIAN JOHNSTONE HEATS

Yesterday (Wednesday) at Angle Park we saw the running of four heats of the 2016 Brian Johnstone (Group Three) series.

We had 30 final nominations with Cameron Butcher winning two heats and Ken Gill and Bosco Stamenkovic the other two. Fastest qualifier was One Fire for the powerful Butcher kennel that ran a slick 29.84 and made it 4 wins on the trot.

The results of the Heats were:

Heat 1 – Buzz Box (30.00)

Heat 2 – Lepa Nada (30.31)

Heat 3 – On Fire (29.84)

Heat 4 – Long Gully Gilly (29.89)

From this week’s heats, we come down to two Semi-Finals next Thursday night 24th November with the $37,500 Group 3 Brian Johnstone Final run on Thursday 1st December 2016.

The final part of this series will be the Gawler Classic 2016 to be run on 13th and 18th December 2016.

2017 GAWLER PRODUCE STAKES – NOMINATIONS CLOSE TOMORROW

The 2017 Gawler Produce Stakes will be run by GRSA in conjunction with the Gawler Greyhound Racing Club.

Once again we will offer guaranteed Final Stakemoney, which will be $22,000. The estimate for the total series prizemoney is $40,000, based on this year’s series. The series is for greyhounds whelped in 2015.

In 2017 we will again be offering additional incentives for trainers to nominate. A bonus will be offered to any greyhound which can win both the Produce Stake and the Gawler Gold Cup. The Robyn Mackellar trained Fabregal won both races this year and took out the bonus of $13,000. Well done Robyn and connections. The bonus now will revert back to $5,000.

The SA Bred bonus will also be continued; should the winner of the Final be SA bred, there will be a SA Bred bonus of $1,000 to the owner.

The dates for this series will be Heats on Tuesday 27th June 2017, Semi Finals on Tuesday 4th July 2017 and the Final on Sunday 9th July 2017. There will be a breeders bonus of $500 for the winner of the Final and a consolation event also.

GRSA administers the event for the Club, so all payments are to be made to GRSA. The fees are, with the one-off payment option $121.00 or the sustaining option at $33 (first), $55 (second) and $88 (Final).

Nomination Forms are now available, along with the full list of conditions and the payment schedule. We have sent out forms to those with eligible greyhounds as well as previous supporters of the race.

* Nominations for the 2017 Gawler Produce will close tomorrow (Friday 18th November) with GRSA.

WORM BURNER IN MELBOURNE CUP FINAL TOMORROW NIGHT

What a great night of racing it will be Interstate tomorrow night with the running of the $600,000 Group 1 TAB Melbourne Cup Final being run on a Friday night.

SA’s star chaser Worm Burner returned to his very best form last week when he won his way through to tomorrow nights final with a strong display of chasing. He has drawn box 2 with race favourite Zambora Brockie on his outside so hopefully he has travelled across okay and he can repeat his brilliant display in the National Sprint Final when he beat “Brockie” easily.

It will be race 8 on Friday night due to start at 8.38pm (SA time).

SPRINGVALE BRYNE DRAWS BOX 7 IN THE BOLD TREASE TOMORROW NIGHT

SA’s best stayer Springvale Bryne has drawn box 7 when she lines up in the Group 1 Bold Trease final tomorrow night at Sandown.

Interestingly it is the same box her kennel mate Luna Jinx came from last year in the very same final. She is a big chance of success as she gets out in front and makes it hard for her competition to run past her. It will be race 6 on Friday night due to start at 7.58pm (SA time).

2016 DAISH IRRIGATION & FODDER STRATHALBYN CUP FINAL SUNDAY

After five super heats last Sunday the $10,000 Daish Irrigation & Fodder Strathalbyn Cup Final this Sunday looks to be one of the highlights on the local racing calendar this season.

The Club has drawn together an outstanding field for their main meeting of the year and a huge crowd is expected to attend the Southern Greyhound Raceway. The Strathalbyn gallops race during the day so with nice weather they will venture down for a night out at the dogs.

Last weeks heats were taken out by Hotham Lad for Tony Rasmussen who ran home strongly in a flying 31.74, Aston Kody for Troy Murray who did a good job in a handy 31.79, Winthrop Flyer for Paul Fagan who led throughout in a slick 31.63, Harry Aztec for Yvonne King who surprised at big odds in a solid 32.10 and last year’s winner Wheel Spinner who qualified the fastest for Ossie Chegia in a sizzling 31.37.

The Cup Final will be race 8 on Sunday due to start at 7.56pm (SA time). Coverage for races will be on Sky Racing 1 including the Cup final.

2016 Daish Irrigation & Fodder Strathalbyn Cup Final – Box Draw

The Daish Irrigation & Fodder Strathalbyn Cup Consolation is race 5 on the program due to start at 6.49pm for those greyhounds which failed to qualify for the $10,000 final. The race is worth $2,000 so it will be a very keenly contested affair.

2016 SA COUNTRY CUP FINAL ON SUNDAY

After almost a month of heats a super SA Country Cup final has been drawn on Sunday at Strathalbyn with greyhounds representing our four Country Clubs.

Gawler            Memory Assassin and Jokowi

ICG MEETING ON FRIDAY 9TH DECEMBER 2016

The next Industry Consultative Group meeting will be held at Angle Park on Friday 9th December. This is a very important meeting held every 6 months with outcomes and recommendations being considered by the GRSA Board.

It would be appreciated if participants had topics for discussion that are specific to the Industry as a whole and are of a strategic nature that they contact myself by close of business Thursday 17th November so this may form part of the Agenda.

HOT WEATHER POLICY

A reminder to trainers with the hot weather coming to make sure they are aware of the conditions relating to the Hot Weather Policy. This policy is available on the GRSA website and also at the track.

BOOKING OF TUESDAY NIGHT TRIALS AT ANGLE PARK

1.          DO NOT phone prior to 12.30pm as NO calls will be placed on hold and your call will not be answered prior to 12.30pm.  By calling prior to 12.30pm you are actually inconveniencing yourself as you may be disconnected or directed to another area as the telephone system will not let you que for a long period of time.

3.          No other queries will be answered to ensure a timely manner of answering the calls that are in que for booking trials.

4.          Please understand that our staff provides you with the best possible and earliest time available so they will not enter into a debate about the reasons why.

5.         DO NOT book more trials than required.  GRSA will be monitoring this situation and if required action may be taken against offenders.

TRIALS ON TUESDAY NIGHT FOL THIS WEEK

AGRC MEMBERS LUCKY DOG DRAW
Reminder on how it works, each year we have drawn 4 names for each week’s Thursday APK race 8, next to each name is the box number of the dog you have drawn in Race 8.  If your box number happens to win Race 8, you can renew your membership next year (30th June) for half price.    We have drawn 8 names for the Xmas function night so we will have at least one happy member on that night.

If you happen to own or train greyhounds racing on the date that your name has been drawn, you can choose to have your dogs drawn instead of the lucky box number and it works the same if your dog drawn happens to win.  It is up to you to notify an AGRC committee member on the night that you want to take up this option and we will randomly draw one of your dogs competing on the night.

AGRC Committee members are Alan Amezdroz, Barry Stewart, Petar Jovanovic, Melissa Trowbridge, Gabe Vistolli and Gavin Harris.
