TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

At headquarters tonight we have a 10-event programme, don’t forget all events are Trifecta and First Four races, that’s where we have been picking up some handy dividends in recent weeks so there is no reason why we shouldn’t tonight. Remember the guaranteed Trifecta pool of $10,000 on race 1. The Rasmussen team should have a huge night and look the kennel to follow.

Race 1 - Molly Dobbs saluted here for us last week leading throughout and she can do it again for us tonight from her draw of 2, she looks the likely leader again and will take tossing. Tag And Release can be hit and miss on box rise but is very smart when on song and is the big danger. Box Up 2.4.5.6.

Race 2 - This will be 3 weeks in a row I have tipped Buddy’s Entity but I won’t surrender, he was only beaten 2.50L here last week from box 8 and was running on well, he can NEARLY breakthrough in this at handy odds.  Zipping Olga showed a good turn of early pace here last week only to be run down and looks the big improver. Add in Terpillar who has crossed the border for his first start here in SA for the trifecta. Box Up 3.6.7.8.

Race 3 – The Rasmussen kennel has been on fire of late and they have a big chance here with Phoebe Allen out in box 7, she hasn’t missed a cheque in her last 5 runs and will be rattling home late. Tiger’s Empire has been placed from this draw at her past 2 runs and looks a big threat. Add in Lepa Nada who is returning from a short break. Box Up 1.3.5.7.

Race 4 - This is the distance affair of the night and a handy one at that, Caprice Monelli looks very hard to beat on his recent runs at Gawler and finished 4th at Sandown over 715m last week after finding early trouble. Springvale Bryne is the veteran of the field but has a terrific record over the journey and will be right in the finish. Box Up all the evens 2.4.6.8.

Race 5 - He has proven very costly in recent runs and that is Diego Bale, this is his 8th start here at headquarters and gets his chance to break into the winner’s circle from a good draw, he is a moderate beginner and will be doing his best work late.  Brett’s Magic tends to find a heap of trouble of late but if he puts it all together is very smart and we can’t leave him out of our First Fours. Add in the pacey Blu Light Banjo who has terrific short course form. Box Up 1.2.4.5.

Race 6 - This is a wide-open affair and I like the newcomer in Pyredos Monelli out in box 8 for the Ben Rawlings kennel, he won on debut at Gawler and is having his first start tonight at headquarters. Sticky Zipper is very capable with a clear run and is sure to be in the mix along with Sally’s Girl who has been the runner up here at her past couple. Box Up 3.4.5.8.

Race 7 - There looks to be a lot of early pace here and that will come from Tyla Grace, Half A Mill and Optic Blast, all three can win if they can get a clear early so they are a must for the Trifecta punters. The Gavin Harris trained Hurucan is boxed down on the rails to run a cheeky race and add value for our First Four. Box Up 1.5.6.8.

Race 8 - Cairnlea Kenny returned to the winner’s circle here last week with a BON 29.69, from box 1 tonight he looks very hard to beat in a high-quality affair. Litter mates High Eden Snow and High Eden Frost are both in terrific form and have early pace. Add Signal Peak in our top 4 as he will be rattling home late. Box Up 1.3.6.7.

Race 9 - This is our 600m event of the night and it’s very hard to go past Windmill Haze out in box 8, he is definitely the form runner winning his last 4 starts all in quick times so we will make him one of our Best Bets of the night. Sutton Steele will come out running and has been in the money at his last 5 runs and is well drawn out wide. Add Shimatron who is a moderate beginner but will be running on strongly. Box Up 2.4.7.8.

Race 10 - The Jovanovic kennel have been on song of late and they can go home on a winner with Cairnlea Strider out in box 6, he found early trouble here last week and was a handy third, he has moderate beginners around him and might be able to pinch the early lead. Serene Machine can be hit and miss on the jump but musters quickly and can’t be overlooked. Box Up 1.2.3.6.

Race 10, No: 6 - Cairnlea Strider

The jackpot has increased from $5,000 to $6,000 as Dream A Little missed out on winning the Gawler Cup this year.

The Southern Greyhound Raceway will run heats of the 2017 Daish Irrigation & Fodder Strathalbyn Cup this Sunday.

The Club received 40 nominations for the Cup and as a result will run 5 heats on Sunday. The heats will feature many chances all vying for a spot in the final led by the Troy Murray kennel with 5 runners including last years winner Aston Kody in heat 5. Other notable chances appear to be Jay’s Ace and Molly Be Nimble from the Cameron Butcher kennel, Hukanui and Barton Bale from the Tony Rasmussen team, Brick Lane for Lauren Harris and Zipping Zane from the kennels of Ashley Furner.

The winner from each heat and the three fastest second placegetters will qualify for the final with the next two second placegetters declared reserves.
Good luck to all connections.

The results of the Heats were:
Heat 1 – Baa Man (30.77)

Heat 3 – Rhynstone Teddy (30.46)

From this week’s heats, we come down to two Semi-Finals next Thursday night 23rd November with the $37,500 Group 3 Brian Johnstone Final run on Thursday 30th November 2017. The final part of this series will be the Gawler Classic 2017 to be run on 17th and 24th December 2017.

KURT DONSBERG AVAILABILITY ON THURSDAY 14TH DECEMBER

On course Photographer Kurt Donsberg will be delayed in attending the race meeting on Thursday 14th December.

ONLINE & PHONE BOOKINGS OF TRIALS FOR ANGLE PARK AND GAWLER  FROM 11.30AM

GRSA received feedback in regard to the Online Trial booking process for both Gawler Wednesday and Angle Park Tuesday and Saturday trial sessions.

This process of online bookings is fully supported by the ICG and GRSA Board and will continue to grow over time.
• To encourage the move from 100% phone bookings to online GRSA made the decision to separate the booking times from 12.30pm, to 11.30am for online and 12.30pm for phone. This has worked successfully and reduced the number of phone calls dramatically. This encourages participants to manage their own bookings.  However GRSA believes that the separation is now no longer required so both online and phone bookings will now be at 11.30am for trial sessions.  It was decided to go to 11.30am due to the commitment participants have made to the online process and worked their schedule around this time being at home or near their device to book.
Whilst having the bookings at the same time the trial booking phone line will still be 08 8243 7172. No trials will be accepted on any other phone line; participants will be queued as normal and will not be taken before 11.30am. Our staff member will attempt to book your phone trials in a timely manner bearing in mind participants will be booking online at the same time. I would encourage all participants to move to the online process as this is quicker, easier and they can have the flexibility to manage the process themselves.

• It is important for all participants to realise that at any point from 11.30am when the trials open to around 3.30pm the day of the trial session (or day before for Saturday) they can log on or ring up and manage their bookings. They may be able to move earlier or later if there has been a cancellation etc, it really does provide an option if their time is unsuitable.

ANGLE PARK SLIPPING TRACK

With the warmer weather coming GRSA has increased the amount of water being put on the Angle Park slipping track.

The slipping track will have the sprinklers on from 1pm to 2pm daily. We believe this is the best time to water with the least amount of activity.

HOT WEATHER POLICY

A reminder to trainers with the hot weather coming to make sure they are aware of the updated conditions relating to the Hot Weather Policy.

This policy is available on the GRSA website and also at the track.

NOTIFICATION OF TRAINING AMENDMENT & CLEARANCE OF GREYHOUNDS

Trainers are reminded of their obligation to notify GRSA within 3 working days of a greyhound coming into or leaving their kennel (Rule 105(4)(i)).

This is a requirement for all greyhounds regardless of where bred.  We have had a number of trainers recently put in training amendments late the night prior to nominations closing at 9am the following day, this practice can lead to your nomination not being accepted or being unable to nominate online should any issues arise the following morning.
Trainers are also leaving it to the night before nominations close to have greyhounds “checked off”.  This practice can also lead to your nomination not being accepted or being unable to nominate online should any issues arise. It is therefore in the trainer’s best interest to have lodged with GRSA the training amendment and clearance of the greyhound a number of days prior to wishing to nominate the greyhound.  It is not GRSA’s responsibility to ensure that the paperwork is processed within ½ hour, which is the amount of time available to have it processed before nominations close at 9am.

COMPLETION OF PAPERWORK

Participants are reminded of their obligation to ensure that when lodging paperwork that it is fully completed and payment is made at the time of lodgement.

GRSA is here to assist should you be unsure of how to complete any paperwork however it is not our responsibility to arrange for its completion, nor is it our responsibility to ensure that it is lodged.  Therefore, please ensure when lodging any paperwork eg, Transfer of Ownerships, Litter Registrations etc that they are fully completed and paid for and lodged within a timely manner.
