TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

It continues again tonight at headquarters, another huge night of racing and we have the final of the BGC INDUSTRIAL CLEANING SUPPLIES 2016 DERBY FINAL. The interstaters look to have a strangle hold on this with 7 starters, we have our loan ranger in Ruff State who has drawn box 1 for Kenny Gill and as we have seen it in the past the home track is certainly a big advantage. Other highlights of the night venture to race 7 where we see Worm Burner who looks primed for the Adelaide Cup series in the coming weeks and is going for 14 straight wins tonight. I hoped you all followed last week as we had a terrific night on the punt including my roughie of the night who went on to win the OAKS FINAL at a lazy 10/1.

Race 1 - this is a tricky event to kick the night off with as there are several chances. I am leaning towards Ultima Bale down in box 3 he won here on debut in handy time and should be right in the mix again. Are Ate will start the punters elect and is in fine form for Yvonne King, he has been in terrific form of late and will take beating with a clear run Box Up 3.4.6.8.

Race 2 - The Cameron Butcher kennel has another smart one to add to their team with On Fire. The youngster carved out a slick 29.69 run here at only his 4th race start and looks to have a big future so he is our top pick. Hy Guard and Nordoc Magic can fill the placings Box Up 1.2.3.8

Race 3 - This is the distance affair of the night and the Gavin Harris trained Springvale Bryne has continued to win over this trip and looks the measuring stick once again. Go You Girl ran a top race here last week and is a must for the trifecta Box Up 2.3.4.6.

Race 4 - Dyna Keitaro was a big winner last start at Gawler in a BOD 30.81 when he flew the lids from box 7 and won by 6 Lengths, on that effort he looks far too strong again. Wild Soul has been hit and miss of late but can never be overlooked, add in Park Glory who is in superb form for the trifecta and First 4 Box Up 1.3.4.8.

Race 5 - This is a terrific betting race as there are several chances. I will stick with the Matty Payne trained Scorching down in box 1, he can be hit and miss on box rise but from the favourable draw should be able to kick up early and take beating. Rockstar Swirl is a pacey type as is Winthrop Flyer Box Up 1.5.6.7.

Race 6 - The Rasmussen kennel has several chances tonight and I like their runner in Junner Bale at Each Way odds. Hotham Flyer is very tardy early but will be running on late. Add in Bounce Pass who is more than capable and is another one from the Rasmussen kennel Box Up 1.2.6.7

Race 7 - The Champ fronts up in this and that is Worm Burner, the Cameron Butcher superstar is going for 14 straight tonight and on recent efforts he wins again. Marlow Brown can run into another place as can Coorong Kid and Regal Looper, 4 from 1.7.8 Boxed.

Race 8 - The Final of the 2016 Derby and with $25,000 to the winner it is surly going to be a battle of the interstaters, the 2 main chances for mine are Ultimate Magic and Weekend Binge both have a good turn of early pace and should be vying for the lead in the run to the 1st turn. Bossin It will be doing his best work late and is drawn to run a cheeky race at odds Box Up 2.3.4.7.

Race 9 - This is a 600 event and the Ben Rawlings kennel has stepped Caustic Bale up to more ground. He is well drawn on the fence and should prove too strong in the run home. Allen Mondo is in top form with 3 wins on the trot as is Venetian Mask Box Up 2.4.5.8

Race 10 - Another smart 600 event and Eduardo is drawn for a bold showing, the Kirin Corby chaser can be hit and miss early but with an ounce of luck can run very quick times. Tahlo loves this trip and has only been unplaced twice in 12 runs so she is a must for the trifecta. Box Up 1.2.6.8

Race 11 and a good even race to go home on with several chances. I am going with Hairy Hairdreser, she is racing well and looks the likely leader. Dancing Dollars is more than capable and will add a bit of value into the First 4 Box UP 3.5.7.8.

2016 BGC INDUSTRIAL CLEANING SUPPLIES SA DERBY FINAL

Last Thursday night at Angle Park the oncourse patrons saw some exciting racing in the SA Derby heats culminating in tonight’s Group 3 final.

The first heat was taken out in brilliant fashion by the flying Weekend Binge for Victorian trainer Kel Greenough who stamped himself as the greyhound to beat tonight after he blistered early running a slick 4.34 first split to lead clearly. He left the back in 16.53 running home nicely to record a slick 29.47 win. Monaro Monelli for WA trainer David Hobby and Victorian Bossin It for James Karamatioc both chased bravely but was no match for the winner. In such a quick race all three greyhounds qualified tonight but the early speed of Weekend Binge holds him in good stead even though he has drawn box 7.

The second heat saw the success of Victorian trainer Anthony Azzopardi continue in fine style when Ultimate Magic proven too strong for his rivals when he lead throughout in a handy 29.93. He showed his class in holding off Paraphernalia for Victorian trainer Jeff Guy who was brave in defeat who ran home strongly to just fail to claim his fellow Victorian. Ultimate Style has fared well in the box draw coming from box 2 while Paraphernalia will have to get the job done from box 8 again.

The final heat saw Leo’s Gift for Victorian trainer Rob Britton appreciate the wide draw while there was interference on the first turn resulting in the son of Spring Gun and Ruby Jet pinching a race winning break on his rivals into the back straight. He went onto score in a slick 29.71 ahead of South Aussie Ruff State for Ken Gill who held on well while Sassy Ginger for Kel Greenough ran third giving him two runners in tonights final. Leo’s Gift has drawn the middle pin and looks as if he will head right in the early stages so the start will be all important tonight.

The $35,000 Group Three Final is listed to jump at 9.10pm (SA time) tonight.

The Final field in Box Draw order is:

1.  Ruff State                          Ken Gill (SA)

2.  Ultimate Magic                  Anthony Azzopardi (Vic)
