TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

It’s been a tough week on the punt for greyhound followers and we need to get back on the right side of the ledger quickly. Tonight there are a couple I like at reasonable odds and with a bit of luck we can rebound and build a decent bank.

Race 1 - We start the night with a tricky event as it has several chances, the two I like are Bit Saucy and Venetian Mask, both have early pace and will be there at the finish.   Box Up all the evens 2.4.6.8.

Race 2 - Outdoosy looks one of the better bets of the night.  She has good box speed and has won her past two here in good fashion.  She is well drawn and looks the leader; add in Little Bit Silly from her rails draw as she will be working home late.  Box Up 1.2.3.6.

Race 3 - Janice Jones has a handy one in High Eden Frost, he hasn’t had any luck here at his past couple but is drawn to win tonight from box 1.  The only danger for mine is the pacey Stack Em’ Fast out in box 8.  He can be hit and miss on box rise but if he steps he can run a cheeky race.  Box Up 1.3.7.8.

Race 4 - This is a quality event with three last start winners engaged.  I will stick with Allinga Val who ran them off their legs here last week with a BON 29.74, she wins again on that effort.  Wilba Beast will be carving across and should run into the placings again.  We can’t leave out Mrs Bubbles as she will be flying home late.  Box Up 2.3.7.8.

Race 5 - Another tough event, here is my each way special of the night and that is Cyclone Clifford. His recent racing has been over the 600m he drops back to the sprint tonight and if able to be handy early he would give this a big shake.  Allen Portland will only improve on his first start here last week.  Add in Wairo Bob for the trifecta.  Box Up 1.2.4.8.

Race 6 - Age shall not weary him and that is Gun McBain, he is a marvel winning 4 of his last 5 starts.  He is a veteran of 134 starts and is a credit to his trainer TodD Kelly.  He is a major player again.  Add in What’s Up Herbie who hasn’t missed a cheque in his last 5 runs and Hesa Jayclo for the minors.  Box Up 4.6.7.8.

Race 7 - The Troy Murray kennel has Aston Kody flying at the moment.  He won by over 6L here last week in a smart 29.59 from this draw.  He looks the measuring stick once again and can make it 5 on end.  Molly Dobbs can run a cheeky race at odds and is a must for the trifecta punters as is Ruff State who is always around the mark.  Box Up 1.2.5.8.

Race 8 - Allen Membo won on debut here last week from box 4 he will only be improved and should take a power of beating at eachway odds.  Molly Be Nimble will start the punters elect as she should but she will need to ping the lids from the awkward draw.  Box Up 1.4.5.8.

Race 9 - This is a top quality 600m event with the two main chances being the inform Disaaci and Eduardo.  Both can run quick times when out in front so it makes for a terrific race.  Sutton Steele will be working home late for third.  Box Up 1.2.4.7.

Race 10 - Let’s hope we are in front as the last 2 events are wide open.  The Johnstone kennel is always around the mark and their runner in Dancing Dollars has the pace to cross from her wide draw, if she is able to lead might be able to pinch this.  Paddy Macs has been racing over the 600m of late against quality opposition; she will be rattling home over the top of them.  Box Up 4.5.7.8.

Race 11 - I tipped her last start and that is Lady Bale, she stumbled at the start and was never in it after that from box 8.  She might be able to ping the lids and run a cheeky race. Aston Mondo has handy short course form in Victoria and is sure to be well tried on debut.  Box Up 2.6.7.8

GRADING UPDATES

The Grading Review Panel met on Friday 11th November to discuss grading in South Australia from an Agenda provided by submissions and industry consultation during the past few months.

Following is the main points introduced from 1st December 2016 -

  • The panel advised to be consistent that Grade 6 greyhounds should remain in the drawn fields so long as they were eligible at time of nomination. This would be a change for the 4 win Non SA Bred Grade 6 greyhounds and APK/APM Grade 5 wins who would have normally been withdrawn free of penalty. The panel were supportive of these greyhounds remaining eligible.
  • Pathway winners should be included on the Order of Preference. Regardless of the winners time the performance will be considered as a Country win (like Pt Augusta) and thus will sit on the Order of Preference at 13 if a last start Pathway winner.
  • The table below is in regard to a Time Standard for Masters Events at different tracks over different distances. The panel agreed to the table and advised that the same conditions for Thursday night be implemented for other meetings when a greyhound equals or breaks the Time Standard being ineligible for a Masters Event at that distance and track. Whilst they do not take a grade they have to have two unplaced runs before being considered for a Masters event.

This refers to the Grade 5 Masters events Only.

  • The panel agreed to change the condition of eligibility from 3 months to 6 months for how long prior to a greyhound racing. This comes into line with the 6 month satisfactory trial policy.

**Please note that the GRP were supportive of trainers putting as much information in the comments section of their nomination to assist the Grader in the grading process. Please give him as many options as possible however if trainers write nothing the grader will grade accordingly. If trainers nominate for a specific race advertised in the All tracks calendar and it doesn’t go ahead it is recommended trainers give the Grader another option on their nomination. If trainers do not want their greyhounds to be mixed then they need to be clear on their nomination and understand that the races will be graded accordingly and if you were going to be in a mixed event under normal grading guidelines then the greyhound will be left out**

AGRC MEMBERS LUCKY DOG DRAW
Each year we have drawn 4 names for each week’s Thursday APK race 8, next to each name is the box number of the dog you have drawn in Race 8.  If your box number happens to win Race 8, you can renew your membership next year (30th June) for half price.

If you happen to own or train greyhounds racing on the date that your name has been drawn, you can choose to have your dogs drawn instead of the lucky box number and it works the same if your dog drawn happens to win.  It is up to you to notify an AGRC committee member on the night that you want to take up this option and we will randomly draw one of your dogs competing on the night. AGRC Committee members are Alan Amezdroz, Barry Stewart, Petar Jovanovic, Melissa Trowbridge, Gabe Vistolli and Gavin Harris.
