TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

There are several highlights on tonight’s programme none better than race 9 where On Fire will be going for his 12th straight win, the Bekim Bale x Alana Blues sprinter is in outstanding form and the times he keeps on producing are unbelievable . Race 6 is a more than handy 731m event and there looks to be several chances, don’t forget all races are Trifecta and First fours so we will be able to snare a couple of handy dividends especially race 1 with a guaranteed Trifecta Pool of $10,000.

Race 1 - We kick off with a wide-open affair and I like one in this down on the fence in Funky Monkey, she looks well placed in this and should be able to push up early. Mepunga Georgia has pace and is a must for the Trifecta, add Harbison Miss who will be working home late. Box Up 1.3.7.8.

Race 2 and the Paula Hearnden kennel look to have a strangle hold on this with 3 runners. Long Gully Pete will find this a lot easier than his recent runs. Dakota Peach loves to fill a place and has early dash. Box Up 2.4.6.7.

Race 3 - Long Gully Josh was grabbed on the line at Gawler last start in quick time so he should be able to break back into the winner’s circle in this. Dakota Farr has only had a handful of starts and looks to have a bright future. Box Up 1.2.4.5.

Race 4 - We tipped her last week and that is Kung Fu Mary, she is better when able to lead and gets her chance to do that from box 8 tonight. Eustace Road has won 4 from 4 all over the short and looks well primed to tackle the extra trip. Box up 1.3.7.8.

Race 5 - The Cameron Butcher kennel should have another terrific night and they can kick off with a winner with Regal Looper, he charged home to score here last start from box 7 and for mine can jump straight to the front in this. The dangers look to be Allen Portland who will be working home late as will be Tear It Down. Box Up 1.2.5.8.

Race 6 - This is the Distance affair of the night and Caprice Monelli rattled home over the top of them to win here last week in a very handy 43.39, on that effort he looks the measuring stick again. Purpose Driven has been in the money at her last 5 here and is a monty to fill a place again. Box Up 1.2.7.8.

Race 7 - I like the inside 3 here but it’s very hard to split them as they are all very capable on their night, Aston Hinkley loves a wide draw and could be the smokey if he came out running as he could skip away in a very open affair, make sure you put a First Four on in this. Box Up 1.2.3.6

Race 8 - Another of the Cameron Butchers runners in Buzz Box has been in terrific form and she looks primed to win again from box 1 with 4 wins from her last 5 starts, she is my top pick. Dyna Keitaro will be working home late and is a veteran of 133 starts. Box Up 1.3.7.8.

Race 9 - As mentioned earlier, On Fire is going for his 12th straight win and it would be a very game person to tip against him, with 25 wins from 41 starts it would only be bad luck that would beat him. Signal Peak is another inform runner and will be right in the mix, add Backpacker at big odds for the Trifecta. 6 from 2.4.8. boxed.

Race 10 - With 5 runners over the 600m Zipping Zeus will prove the one to catch, he has a very good record over this trip and is sure to start the punters elect. Sutton Steele has pace and will make his presence felt as will Hesa Jayclo at big odds. 6 from 1.4.8.

Race 11 - I think we can go home on a winner with the Tony Rasmussen trained Greysynd Gem, she showed a good turn of early pace here last start only to be pipped on the line in 30.13, the main dangers will come from Relton if he is on song and Rock Away. Box Up 1.4.5.7.

SA GREYHOUNDS INTERSTATE

Tonight at Sandown both SA owned and bred stars Fabregal and Worm Burner do battle at Sandown in race 8, the Free For Event due to start at 8.07pm SA Time.

It’s great to see these greyhounds in the premier race on the night. Meanwhile on Saturday night at The Meadows two of our leading trainers are taking on Group 1 company in the heats of the Maturity. Brick Lane for Lauren Harris has been in super form and has drawn box 8 in the third heat of the series due to start at 7.50pm SA time while Petar Jovanovic has Cairnlea Kenny engaged in race 9 at 9.39pm SA time. He has drawn box 6 and will be glad On Fire is not in the series as he has regularly been chasing him home at headquarters recently. We wish connections and greyhounds a safe journey.

However, the highlight has to be three heats of the 2017 Anniversary Cup which has drawn together a high quality line up which resembles the type of fields the club gets for their Cup series in March. Highlighted greyhounds are track record holder Brazen Bomber, Fiorelli Rose and Mojito Mayhem just to name a few. AGRA GROUP RACING CALENDARS – 2017/2018

The AGRA Group Racing calendar booklets have now been released. They are available from the offices of GRSA and at Gawler.

NEW WINNING POST FOR ANGLE PARK IN AUGUST – ANGLE PARK SHUTDOWN

The New Winning Post will be installed in August however for this to occur Angle Park will be out of action for almost two weeks.

To best fit in with the schedule this will be done immediately after the State Finals of the Nationals giving sufficient time prior to the Oaks and Derby series in early September. Across are the racing and trial dates during the period of 11th August through until 24th August (we hope to be back trialling at Angle Park on Tuesday 22nd August).

2017 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN QUEENSLAND

The AGRA National Championships are just around the corner.

The National Finals this year will be held at Albion Park in Queensland to be conducted on Friday 25th August. Both the National Sprint and National Distance Finals will carry prizemoney of $75,000 to the winner.

The State series’ for SA will be held at Angle Park on Thursday 3rd August for the Heats with the State Finals on the 10th August.

The most important date for local trainers to remember is the national closing date for entries. Acceptances for the National Championships will close with GRSA on Thursday 20th July at 12 noon. Nominations this year must be lodged via fax or handed into GRSA due to Stat Dec requirements for Queensland.
A reminder to all trainers of the clause which requires a greyhound to have been domiciled in South Australia for a period of not less than 76 days out of the 150 days immediately prior to the National Acceptance Closing date to be eligible to represent SA. If unsure of a greyhound’s status, please contact the GRSA grading staff.

MYOZCHASE INTRODUCTION

In June GRSA went Live with MyOzChase which provides an easy way for participants in the Greyhound Racing Industry to perform transactions online that previously had to be completed manually and via paper-based Forms.

The portal available on the GRSA website will also improve communications between participants and Greyhound Racing Controlling Bodies.
MyOzChase will initially be offering the following functionality to users who register, obtain a log-in and complete a once-off identity verification prior to transacting online with their Controlling Body:
·      Online updates of personal details
·      View all their associated greyhounds (as an Owner, Trainer, Custodian, etc.)
·      Submit Notifications of Retirement for greyhounds
· Submit Trainership and/or Kennel changes for greyhounds (replacing the current Kennel Notification or Notice of Training / Removal Form) *Please note should you wish to transfer a previous Victorian trained greyhound into your kennel you will need to do this via the Online Nomination portal.
·      Link through to the Online Nominations website (for Trainers only)
Further enhancements will be made over time.
INCREASED PRIZEMONEY FOR SELECTED FEATURE RACES IN 2017/2018
GRSA has been able to increase some of the feature races for the new season continuing to increase the returns to participants. Below is a list of the feature races with prizemoney increases.

TIME GRADING UPDATE

GRSA has been working at achieving some of the outcomes from the recent Grading Review Panel meeting held on 28th April 2017.

Some items like cascading reserves need to be implemented by OzChase however some do not.

We will be able to include greyhounds with 0 – 2 starts so every greyhound nominated will be eligible for consideration. The table below details the rating for 0-2 start greyhounds -

“A greyhound with 0 starts will be given a rating of 10 as a starting point. At its second start it will have the average of 10 and its first start. At its third start, it will be the average of the 2 lowest ratings, including the base rating of 10. ie if had 12, 12 from 2 starts, it will be 10 + 12 / 2 = 11”
For “Best to Worst” Time Grading we will be able to include higher graded greyhounds into mixed events if there are insufficient nominations for a single race. The conditions of this are listed -
“A Grade 4 can be mixed with a Grade 5 however a Grade 3 will not unless there is also a Grade 4 greyhound selected for that time graded race”
GRSA has also started to program some category Time Grading meetings. These meetings are for greyhounds that are Maidens, 1 – 4 wins and 5 plus wins all time graded “lowest to highest”. Please refer to the All Tracks calendars for details.
