Angle Park Racing Preview - 11.5.17
by The Shadow
It looks to be another huge night of racing and we have another 12 race programme, there is a terrific 600m event which is race 5 on the card and it is certainly a very strong affair with several chances, as usual all races are Trifecta and First 4 events.
Race 1 and the Ben Rawlings kennel has been in fine form of late and they can kick the night off with a winner with Allen Terminator down in Box 1. He begins well and will be right in the mix, add in Mr. Arjay who was a very good run here last start when 2nd in good time. Box Up 1.2.5.8.
Race 2 - This is a tricky event as there is 2 runners who won on their debut here and face a rise in class. Miles Per Gallon has been racing well without winning but is the more experienced of the inform runners so we will put him on top. Box Up 1.2.4.8.
Race 3 - The Yvonne King team have been racing very well of late and they should notch another win up with Aitch down in box 1, he found a heap of trouble here last start but appears well suited down on the fence. Shakey Shadow is a moderate beginner and will be doing his best work late. Box Up 1.3.7.8.
Race 4 - This is a very handy race and we will stick with Cut Loose Max who won well here last start, he loves a wide draw and will be very hard to beat again. Danyo’s Tom has been racing consistently and is a must for the trifecta. Box Up 1.2.4.8.
Race 5 - This is the 600m of the night and a very strong one at that, there are several chances in this starting with the Cameron Butcher duo in She’s A Looper and last start winner Purpose Driven. Both can carve out very quick times when left alone and appear amongst the major chances. Linco Bale is very smart and loves this trip. Box Up 1.4.6.8.
Race 6 - Ruff State has been knocking on the door of late but has been struggling to run a strong 515m out, he looks well drawn again and it’s only a matter of time before he breaks back into the winners circle. Mepunga Georgia is drawn for a bold showing down in box 1 and was a last start winner here. Dyna Keitaro will be rattling home late and is a must for the pick 4. Box Up 1.3.4.5.
Race 7 - Tough event as all the main chances have drawn poorly but we will stick with Jays Ace who collected the bickies for us last start, he is very smart but is a worry on box rise. Other chances look to the pacey Windmill Haze from the Ken Gill kennel he was unplaced in simular company last week but expect an improved performance. Box Up 3.4.5.6.
Race 8 - They have been competing against each other in recent weeks and that is Striker Klinsman and On Fire, both are very smart when on song but On Fire is the form runner. It’s hard to split them so they are a must for our pick 4, add in Signal Peak and Dyna Edgar for value. Box Up 2.3.6.8.
Race 9 and the Rasmussen kennel could make it back to back wins here if Alice’s Entity salutes the judge, she will be very hard to beat from her nice draw of 3. Benaud is a pacey type but gets the wobbles late in the run, add in Heading My Way who will come out running and is very consistent. Box Up 1.3.6.7.
Race 10 - I have tipped Mauricio in recent weeks only to leave the cash in the bookie bag, he gets his chance tonight to break back into the winners circle from a rails draw. Harbison Miss should start the punters elect and was a smart winner here last start, she came out running and won easily by over 5 Lengths so she is a must for the trifecta. Marley Bale and Long Gully Gilly can fill the minors. Box Up 2.3.5.6.
Race 11 - Forget the run of Brick Lane last week when he failed to beat a runner home, he was in fine form prior and can bounce back. Oh No Betta has won 2 of his past 4 and is quick early .Box Up 1.2.3.5.
Race 12 - We can go home on a winning note with Robyn Mackellar trained Alpha Castor, he can kick up early and hold the lead at each way odds. Canya Sassy has been in good form and will be right in the finish as will be Aston Troy, box up the inside brigade 1.2.3.4.

The race is for greyhounds that are eligible for Breeders 2017. Greyhounds don’t have to have competed in the Preludes to run in the Group 3 Howard Ashton.

GUN MCBAIN CLOCKS UP ANOTHER RECORD – 150 STARTS
Iron dog Gun McBain clocked up another achievement when he competed yesterday at Angle Park. The son of Spring Gun and Flame McBain jumped out of the boxes for his 150th start over the 388m journey and for the 59th time he greeted the judge in first place. He has had an outstanding career with 49 placings added to his race wins and prizemoney just over $150,000.
He is now 4 ½ years old and there could be more records just around the corner. Gun McBain already holds the Angle Park venue record at 47race wins however if he can achieve three more race wins at a TAB venue he will surpass Major Blaze’s national record of 61 TAB race wins in Australia. Major Blaze competed in the early 2000’s in Victoria. Gun McBain has returned to the track in great form so there is no reason why he can’t continue of his winning ways.

GOTBA NEWS
After consultation with the GOTBA some of their races will revert back to 8 dog events rather than all 4 dog events as was conducted for their first two meetings.
With the Club receiving strong nominations the below criteria has been agreed for upcoming meetings –
• Juvenile, Juvenile/Maidens and Maidens (that have not won on the circle will all be graded as 4 dog events). This will protect the more inexperienced greyhounds.
• Maidens (that have won 1 or more races on the circle), Novice, 1 stake, open etc will be graded as 8 dog events
This is all still dependent upon nominations received. The club will run 16 dog events for the Waterloo Cup, Oaks and Derby as per normal, depending upon nominations.
The GOTBA’s next meeting will be on Sunday 21st May.
