Racing News

TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

It looks another top night of racing here at headquarters with a mixture of racing over all three Distances, don’t forget all races are Trifecta and First Four events and let’s hope we can continue on our recent trend in backing a few winners.

Race 1 - Hot Marlow was very impressive when winning here last start in a BON 29.91 from box 6, he has the early pace to be in the mix early and is very strong. Snakebite Bale is very smart on his night and is boxed for a forward showing, he can be hit and miss on box rise but has a very big motor if left alone early. Box Up 1.4.5.6.

Race 2 - This appears a wide-open affair and we will go with the pacey More Than Black out in box 8, the two Ex Interstaters in Don’t Blush and Striking Jewel are sure to be well tried and are a must for our First Four. Box Up 3.6.7.8.

Race 3 - Max Jake was very impressive on his debut here last week winning by over 5 Lengths in a handy 30.02, from this draw he has moderate beginners on his inside and is a chance of leading again. You Send Me will be running on late along with Ambers Wish at big odds. Box Up 1.3.5.8.

Race 4 - The Kevin Murnane trained Feral Lad showed them a clean set of paws when winning here in a slick 29.86 from box 4 last start, he should prove very hard to beat on that effort. Dynamo Jezz has good Gawler form with a win and a placing at his two SA starts and can’t be overlooked in this, add Aston Groucho and Debonair Lass for the minors. Box Up 1.2.5.7.

Race 5 - This is the distance affair of the night and it comes down to On Fire and Springvale Cooke to fight it out again, they are both in terrific form and should run the Quinella. Shot Thru and Pierce Bale can run into the First Four. Box Up 1.4.7.8.

Race 6 - Darcy Brown is a pacey type and has won 3 of his past 5 here over this trip all in good times, he is well drawn and looks the measuring stick. Destini Mermaid will add some value to our First Four and will be running on as will Rip It Ralph. Box Up 1.2.7.8.

Race 7 - This certainly is a wide-open affair with several chances, I like one in this at good each way odds in Half A Mill from the Lisa Rasmussen kennel, he will need luck early but with a clear run is more than capable of surprising. All About Corey has been in the money at his 3 starts here in SA since crossing the border and is a must for the Trifecta along with the Mathew Payne Dunkirk. Box Up 1.4.5.8.

Race 8 - Angela Modra certainly has Sutton Wil firing at the moment and he looks very hard to beat from his draw of 8 tonight, with his early pace he should be able to be handy into the back and run over the top of them. Marco Lee is also racing in terrific form for the Scott Feltus camp and he can add some value along with Temerity down in box 2. Box Up all the evens. 2.4.6.8.

Race 9 - This is a small field over the 515m but is all quality, Aston Kody is resuming and when on song he is very hard to beat and has a personal best here of a 29.55 run. Spring Bloom will be doing her best work late and Paua To Kapau was a last start winner here in Sub 30. Box Up 1.2.4.6

Race 10 - Croyden Boys has been racing well over the sprint and steps up to the 600m here tonight, he has won here in the past over this trip and on recent form will give this a big shake. Eli Starlight is dropping back from the 731m and should be making good ground late from her rails draw, add in Spring Spinner and the pacey Tullabung Betty for the Trifecta. Box Up 1.2.6.8.

Race 11 - I like the inside four in the last event of the night all have their claims but we will stick with Dyna Layla who looks the likely leader. Zipping Kim and Aston Abbott are more than capable with the later winning here in 30.06 last start from this draw. Box Up 1.2.3.4.

LOCAL NEWS

 LOCAL TRAINERS AT SANDOWN TONIGHT

It’s a huge night at Sandown greyhounds tonight with the running of the Sandown Cup heats, Harrison Dawson heats and Sapphire Crown heats and SA will be well represented on the night.

Recent Anniversary Cup winner Cairnlea Jet will compete in race 1 on the program in a heat of the Harrison Dawson over the 515m. He has drawn box 3 in probably the toughest heat however he is in brilliant form and will be charging home at the end. Race 1 will jump at 6.37pm (SA time).

Race 2 is the second heat of the Harrison Dawson at 6.55pm and Lisa Rasmussen has new addition to her kennels Victor Dora competing. Victor Dora is a winner of 14 races and won 2 starts ago at the Meadows over the 600m. He looks a strong type so look for him making full use of box 1 tonight.

WA performed Jeebus Bird will step out in race 6 at 8.22pm for leading local trainer Tony Rasmussen in the second heat of the Sandown Cup. He has had two starts in SA over the staying trip for two excellent placings so looks to be in good form and he did make the recent Group 1 Galaxy final in Perth. Box 8 is a concern and also star stayers Tornado Tears and Rippin’ Sam who look very hard to beat however you have to be in it to win it!

Probably SA’s best sprinter Honcho Monelli steps out in race 9 for trainer Tony Rasmussen in the third heat of the Harrison Dawson in another extremely strong heat. Fresh from his brilliant win in last weeks Match Race series Honcho Monelli has drawn 7 which should suit and with some luck defiantly could qualify for next weeks final. His race will be at 9.25pm (SA time)

Good luck to all concerned.

2018 GROUP 3 HOWARD ASHTON HEATS

Yesterday (Wednesday) we saw the running of 4 heats of the 2018 Howard Ashton. This event is open to SA Bred greyhounds eligible for Breeders 2018 and it was great to see such a strong line up of greyhounds for the Group 3 series.

As there were 4 heats, we will be running 2 Semi-Finals worth $4,500 next Thursday night, so the first four greyhounds from each heat will qualify. Heat winners were –

Victa Louise- 29.72

Tal Lee – 30.49

Breemelia Swift – 30.24

Fabwik– 30.01

The Group 3 $37,500 Final will be run on Thursday 31st May.

CHANGES TO 6 MONTH TRIAL POLICY FROM JUNE 1

GRSA Stewards have recently undertaken a benchmarking exercise with other states around field sizes for greyhounds looking to return to racing after not competing for more than six (6) months.  The Stewards view is the spirit of the rule about unraced greyhound for more than six (6) months is to ensure the greyhound is fit to race.

In an effort to assist participants, the GRSA Trial Policy will be amended, to allow greyhounds which have not raced for more than six (6) months to be able to complete a satisfactory trial as a solo trial.  This change will take effect as of 1 June 2018. The provisions of GAR72 and GAR77A still apply.

BRUCE TYCOON AT STUD - FREE SERVICES IN JUNE

Thanks to Ben Weidenbach he will be offering free services to star sprinter Bruce Tycoon on selected races in June. One Bitches race will be run each Thursday night (varying grade) at Angle Park with the winning connections receiving a free service. Prior to the event, new owners can buy the greyhound before it starts with any prizemoney won being retained by the old owners and then the new owners take the greyhound after the race.
These races provide an opportunity to sell and buy greyhounds that are currently competing.

Wednesday 13th June – 388m

Tuesday 19th June – 400m (Gawler)

MOUNT GAMBIER SET TO RUN ADDITIONAL FORTNIGHTLY THURSDAY MEETING

The Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club is set to run an additional fortnightly Thursday afternoon race meeting over the coming months.  The addition of these meetings follows consultation between the Club and GRSA on servicing local participants during the temporary closure of the Warrnambool Greyhound Club for refurbishments from May to August. With the pool of nominations for Mount Gambier coming from the South East region of SA and from across the border in country Victoria, it is believed that an extra meeting per fortnight will assist participation in the region. The change will result in Mount Gambier racing on a two week cycle of Friday/Sunday in the first week and then Thursday/Sunday in the second week.

GRSA have released extra dates in the first instance in late May, June and July to establish support, with the intent to add additional meetings in August whilst the Warrnambool works take place (estimated at 4 months). GRSA thanks the support of the Mt Gambier GRC, Radio TAB, staff and Sky Racing for their support for these extra meetings.

Date changes are listed below –

Add: Mount Gambier – Thursday 24th May 2018  (TAB) Day (Time Graded by Groups)

Add: Mount Gambier – Thursday 7th June 2018  (TAB) Day

Add: Mount Gambier – Thursday 21st June 2018  (TAB) Day

Add: Mount Gambier – Thursday 5th July 2018  (TAB) Day

Add: Mount Gambier – Thursday 19th July 2018  (TAB) Day

GRADING REVIEW PANEL TO MEET ON FRIDAY, 25TH MAY

The Grading Review Panel will meet on Friday, 25th May to discuss grading in South Australia from an Agenda provided by submissions and industry consultation with the outcomes released shortly after the meeting.

KURT DONSBERG – ONCOURSE RACE NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHER

Recently Kurt was able to extend his roster to not only do Thursday night meetings at Angle Park but also the Monday night and Wednesday day meetings, however, due to personal commitments he is unable to do Monday nights until later in the year. Kurt will continue as normal with Thursdays and also Wednesdays based on his availability.

On those days/nights of racing when Kurt is not oncourse GRSA will continue to allow participants to take their own presentation photos and if required, gain access to the presentation area. Please just liaise with the Stewards on the day for access.

ACCELL THERAPY MAT NOW AVAILABLE AT ANGLE PARK

The mat is now available in the foyer area of the Angle Park building. It is recommended that a greyhound derives benefit with a 15 to 20 minute session and is generally for recovery from racing or injury. It will be available during normal office hours to be used (greyhounds racing on that day excluded). Please ask the Racing Admin staff if you wish to use the mat. GRSA is working towards making this available also during trial sessions.
