TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

I hope everyone had a great Xmas and tonight we’ll try and find you the extra Xmas bonus with a few winners. Don’t forget the guaranteed Trifecta pool of $10,000 on race 1 tonight along with all the UBET Jackpot specials.

Race 1 – Bogie Miracle has a good record from box 1 so looks hard to beat. Greysynd Ebony looks the main danger while Hurucan can run into a place. Box Up 1.4.8.2.

Race 2 – We are going for an early double for the Ben Rawlings kennel with Norah Bale our top pick. She has won 2 of her last 3 and should go well tonight. Becky Bale is nicely drawn and very strong while Funky Monkey is gradually getting back to her best after a good second last start. Box Up 4.1.3.2.

Race 3 – Tag And Release won well from box 1 last week and can repeat the dose tonight from the same box. He should lead and win. Both Jay’s Ace and Zero Knockin’ should be getting home late into the minor money. Box Up 1.7.2.3.

Race 4 - This is the distance affair of the night and Topology is shooting for three straight after another good win last week. He looks the testing material tonight. Shaun’s Entity will be improved after last week’s third after stepping up to the 731m for the first time and Springvale Carla should run her usual honest race.  Box Up 2.8.4.1.

Race 5 – Born Billy for the Lisa Rasmussen team impressed with a solid win last start at headquarters and he is my best bet of the night after drawing perfectly in box 2. Shout is in great form after winning his last two starts over the short however he steps up to the 515m tonight but looks like he will handle it. Terpillar has been well in the market recently but a little inconsistent however if he can produce the same performance as two starts ago when he won he is a big danger. Box Up 2.4.7.1.

Race 6 – I like Premier Zed here at eachway odds even though he has drawn the pink. He has won 2 of his last 3 starts and he just needs to find a good position early to be right in the mix. Bereluke and Jeannie Shiraz have got solid form and look terrific place chances in a very open race. Box Up 8.1.5.7.

Race 7 – The second of my best bests has drawn perfectly in box 1 tonight. Zipping Zeus can either lead of sit of the pace and just looks the winner from the rails draw. Paua To Rush is a last start Gawler winner but would prefer him from an inside box while Jimmy McBain is racing in career best form and a win would not surprise for trainer Jasmyn Hurley. Box Up 1.8.5.3.

Race 8 – Cairnlea Kenny can be forgiven for his last start 4th after having no luck in running. He won 3 of 4 starts prior to that including a slick 29.75 win, so has to be respected. Pyredos Monelli went huge last week in running third but again has drawn the car park and will need some luck in running. Both Tommy’s Tune and Slipper’s Time should fight out third. Box Up 6.8.1.2.

Race 9 This is the 600m event of the night and if Brick Lane can bring his Gawler middle distance form to Angle Park then he looks a good thing however he suffers from a touch of inconsistency but tonight he should be primed. Bamba Lam Barney suffers the same inconsistency but he deserves another chance and would also win on his best form. It’s a raffle for third however Tyla Grace and Chief Bale look the best of the rest. Box Up 3.7.4.6.

Race 10 – Cairnlea Jet has only raced three times for a win two starts ago however is in astute hands and has drawn well. He’s my top tip in an open affair. Game Over is also lightly raced winning his last start while Bell Of Eden and Serendipitous have very good records and should be right in the finish. Box Up 1.2.6.5.

Race 11 – Cairnlea Strider has cost us in recent starts however tonight he has drawn box 1 and its either back or sack tonight so we are giving him one more chance from the perfect draw. Both Victa Louise and Elite Chaos look the big dangers in an interesting affair. Box Up 1.2.6.3.

Race 12 – Aiming for the powerful Cameron Butcher kennel has only had the two starts for one win however she is blest with plenty of ability and we are hoping she can send us home on a winning note. Ruby Creek has hit some nice form recently and Whackin’ Theo was a much better run last start. Both look like they can challenge for the win. Box Up 4.5.2.8.

EMERLEY PARK TRIALLING ON MONDAY

Greyhound Racing SA has been advised that Emerley Park will trial on Monday (1/1/18) around the circle track.

BREEDER SUPPORT CHANGES

A number of registered breeders were involved in recent focus groups to discuss the challenges facing that industry group and the opportunities that exist for GRSA to support a more viable opportunity for participation in this area.  The Board reviewed that feedback and has identified a number of initiatives that will be implemented progressively, with a number of those coming into effect from January 1.

The first phase of that framework will commence with the introduction of the following support strategies:

 • 100% increase to the breeder component of the SA Bred Scheme from July 1, 2019 (which will impact more recent litters and all future breeding activity)

• The introduction of a subsidy of $30 per week for any retired greyhound on the waiting list to go into GAP that is being kept on a Trainer’s or Owner’s approved premises  from January 1, 2018 commencing from the start of the 7th week on the list post-retirement.  Existing arrangements around subsidised boarding will remain unchanged.

• An increase to the average Breeders’ Support Payment by 40% through the introduction of a fixed payment of $100 per pup for litters whelped after January 1, 2018

• The elimination of fees for notice of service, litter registration and naming from January 1, 2018

• An increase to the subsidy for DNA testing of breeding females to cover the full cost of (approximately) $180 from January 1, 2018

• A cap on the cost of sire registration of $500 with the remainder being reimbursed by way of subsidy from January 1, 2018

• Expansion of the Superbonus scheme in line with consultation with the ICG from January 1, 2018

NEW RACE TRACK LIGHTING FOR ANGLE PARK IN MID JANUARY

The lights at Angle Park have been in place for a very long time and are in desperate need of replacing. For GRSA to do this it is going to take a number of days to be completed resulting in a few Angle Park meetings not being conducted in mid-January.  On Monday night the 15th January the meeting will now be conducted at Strathalbyn with Monday night prizemoney. For the meeting on Wednesday the 17th January, the meeting will now be at Gawler during the day. There will be NO trials at Angle Park on Tuesday night 16th January due to the work being conducted however GRSA will conduct another trial session at Gawler on Monday 15th January in the morning.

SYNDICATION INTEREST FROM TRAINERS

Greyhound Racing SA is interested in gaining feedback from trainers who would be interested in having their details made available to any prospective syndicate groups. GRSA receives a number of query’s from owners about getting involved with their friends however it is quite hard for them to find a trainer. Those trainers who are comfortable with this please respond to Shaun Mathieson via email [email protected] or phone (08) 8243 7100. These details would be only made available to syndicate groups.

GREYHOUND OF THE YEAR ON FRIDAY 2ND FEBRUARY AT GAWLER 2018

The date has been set for the Greyhound of the Year function at Gawler on Friday night, 2nd February 2018.

It will be terrific to have our prestigious event at the Gawler venue again this year with the response from those that attended last year extremely positive.

ONLINE & PHONE BOOKINGS OF TRIALS FOR ANGLE PARK AND GAWLER  FROM 11.30AM

GRSA received feedback in regard to the Online Trial booking process for both Gawler Wednesday and Angle Park Tuesday and Saturday trial sessions.  This process of online bookings is fully supported by the ICG and GRSA Board and will continue to grow over time.

·         To encourage the move from 100% phone bookings to online GRSA made the decision to separate the booking times from 12.30pm, to 11.30am for online and 12.30pm for phone. This has worked successfully and reduced the number of phone calls dramatically. This encourages participants to manage their own bookings.  However GRSA believes that the separation is now no longer required so both online and phone bookings will now be at 11.30am for trial sessions.  It was decided to go to 11.30am due to the commitment participants have made to the online process and worked their schedule around this time being at home or near their device to book.

Whilst having the bookings at the same time the trial booking phone line will still be 08 8243 7172. No trials will be accepted on any other phone line; participants will be queued as normal and will not be taken before 11.30am. Our staff member will attempt to book your phone trials in a timely manner bearing in mind participants will be booking online at the same time. I would encourage all participants to move to the online process as this is quicker, easier and they can have the flexibility to manage the process themselves.

·         It is important for all participants to realise that at any point from 11.30am when the trials open to around 3.30pm the day of the trial session (or day before for Saturday) they can log on or ring up and manage their bookings. They may be able to move earlier or later if there has been a cancellation etc, it really does provide an option if their time is unsuitable.

NOTIFICATION OF TRAINING AMENDMENT & CLEARANCE OF GREYHOUNDS
Trainers are reminded of their obligation to notify GRSA within 3 working days of a greyhound coming into or leaving their kennel (Rule 105(4)(i)).  This is a requirement for all greyhounds regardless of where bred.  We have had a number of trainers recently put in training amendments late the night prior to nominations closing at 9am the following day, this practice can lead to your nomination not being accepted or being unable to nominate online should any issues arise the following morning.

Trainers are also leaving it to the night before nominations close to have greyhounds “checked off”.  This practice can also lead to your nomination not being accepted or being unable to nominate online should any issues arise. It is therefore in the trainer’s best interest to have lodged with GRSA the training amendment and clearance of the greyhound a number of days prior to wishing to nominate the greyhound.  It is not GRSA’s responsibility to ensure that the paperwork is processed within ½ hour, which is the amount of time available to have it processed before nominations close at 9am.

TRIAL DATES FOR STRATHALBYN

All bookings for normal trials will be taken by the Club. As they do on Wednesday nights they will now also take the bookings for Friday nights. You can book trials via text MSG / or call Yvonne King at the Club on 0407 334 349 between 9am and 11am on the day of the trials.  All qualifying trials will need to be booked through GRSA as per normal by 12.30pm on the day of the Qualy trials. GRSA thanks the support of Yvonne and the Strathalbyn GRC in regard to these changes.

The following dates are for the next trial sessions at Strathalbyn -
