TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

We had a handy night on the punt here last week and there looks to be a couple of specials on tonight’s 10 event programme, as usual all races are Trifecta and First Four events and that is where we have been picking up some decent dividends.

Race 1 - This certainly is a wide-open affair to kick start the night with and we will go with Tullabung Betty who battled on well here last start to run a place, she might be able to lead these; Funky Monkey is the value runner and don’t be surprised if she salutes. Box Up 1.3.4.5.

Race 2 - This is the Open Maiden so it’s very hard to get a form line on some of these, You Send Me can be hit and miss on box rise and looks the improver with a rails draw. Born Sassy is a first starter and the kennel normally has them well drilled for their debut. Add Aston Gianna who is the experienced runner for our First Four. Box Up 1.2.8.9.

Race 3 - There appears several chances in this and I like the Rasmussen trained Total Magic down in box 1, he won here last start in 30.26 and can only be improved by the run. Add Sparling Shogun and Aston Amo for our exotics. Box Up 1.4.6.7.

Race 4 - This is our Distance event of the night and Springvale Cooke flew home to score here last week to topple race favourite On Fire by a small margin, they look to be the ones to beat again. Purpose Driven can fill the placings once again. Box Up all the evens 2.4.6.8.

Race 5 - The inside brigade are the ones in this and we will put Mighty Winston as our main pick from the rails draw, he won over the short here last start and with luck might be able to pinch this. Precious Tyson is the value runner and will be doing her best work late. Box Up 1.2.3.7.

Race 6 - The Rasmussen kennel has been on the road in recent weeks and Honcho Monelli will appreciate the drop back in grade tonight, he won at the Meadows in a slick 29.76 4 runs back and should prove very hard to beat. Terpillar is better than his last 2 suggest and is a must for our Trifecta. Box Up 2.3.4.6.

Race 7 - This is one of my better bets of the night and that is Don’t Kid Me in Box 3, he has the pace to lead and win from his inside draw. Barton Bale will be right in the finish along with Aston Harvey. Box Up 1.2.3.6.

Race 8 - Aston Kody didn’t let us down here last week when he scorched the circuit with a blistering 29.55 win from box 5, on that effort we can’t tip against him. Lachlan Monelli loves this draw and should be the improver, add in Tag And Release and Pyredos Monelli for the First 4. Box Up 1.2.4.5.

Race 9 - I like the two Springvale runners in this both are last start winners in good times so they look very hard to go past for our Quinella. Trademark Boss is the roughie at big odds and only appears a place hope at best. Box Up 1.3.7.8.

Race 10 - Its always good to go home on a winner and the Shelley Trengove kennel could do that with Blastoise out in box 8, he has been in the money at his last 10 runs and might be able to break through in this. So Si Bonne won from this draw over the short and is worth putting in our First Four. Box Up 1.4.7.8.

Prior to the event, new owners can buy the greyhound before it starts with any prizemoney won being retained by the old owners and then the new owners take the greyhound after the race.
These races provide an opportunity to sell and buy greyhounds that are currently competing. The first race is scheduled for Angle Park on Wednesday, 14th March over 388m.

NO TRIALS AT MOUNT GAMBIER THIS SATURDAY

The Mount Gambier GRC has advised that there will be No trials this Saturday 10th March.

ANGLE PARK TUESDAY TRIALS NOW STARTING AT 6PM

From the most recent Industry Consultative Group meeting it was determined to start the Angle Park Tuesday night trials from 6pm for a 3 month trial period, this started last Tuesday, 6th March.

It was believed this would assist with the lateness of bookings and would also provide more flexibility for participants.
Trainers can book as normal online and by phone. GRSA however will support Satisfactory trials, Qualifying trials, Unproven & Proven trials and marking off of greyhounds with a block of 25 minutes around the same time as normal. (Trainers cannot nominate into this timeslot)

Therefore there will be two blocks of trials from 6pm to 6.50pm allowing for 20 greyhounds to trial, after this staff will then conduct the Satisfactory Trials, Qualifying Trials and mark off greyhounds from 6.50pm to 7.15pm. This also provides an opportunity for GRSA to move the Unproven and Proven greyhound trials earlier in the night, which always used to be the case, where trainers can book into these either online or by phone. Then normal bookings will again commence from 7.15pm.

REMINDER OF WEIGHT RULE (R39 (2))

Ensuring participants are aware that Rule 39 (2) which deals with with a greyhound that has not competed for more than 28 days.

To make it clear, for example, if a greyhound last competed on the 1st March it can next compete on 30th March which is the 29th day following its last start, so long as no more than 2kg variance.

POLICY FOR GREYHOUNDS QUALIFYING FOR A FINAL AND ENGAGED IN ANOTHER EVENT

Only when a final is part of a Group or Listed series may a greyhound be able to be scratched from an engagement without penalty to allow them to compete in the final.

Permission to scratch without penalty must be sought directly from Stewards and prior to official publicised scratching time.

BREEDER SUPPORT CHANGES

A number of Breeder Support Changes have come into effect from January 1.

The first phase of that framework has commenced with the introduction of the following support strategies:
• 100% increase to the breeder component of the SA Bred Scheme from July 1, 2019 (which will impact more recent litters and all future breeding activity)
• The introduction of a subsidy of $30 per week for any retired greyhound on the waiting list to go into GAP that is being kept on a Trainer’s or Owner’s approved premises from January 1, 2018 commencing from the start of the 7th week on the list post-retirement.  Existing arrangements around subsidised boarding will remain unchanged. New placement forms will be available.
• An increase to the average Breeders’ Support Payment by 40% through the introduction of a fixed payment of $100 per pup for litters whelped after January 1, 2018. New claim forms will be sent out with new services lodged from 1st January 2018.
• The elimination of fees for natural notice of service, FSI notice of service rebated by GRSA, litter registration and naming from January 1, 2018.
• An increase to the subsidy for DNA testing of breeding females to cover the full cost of (approximately) $180 from January 1, 2018. Applications to Greyhounds Australasia for DNA testing from 1st January 2018.
• A cap on the cost of sire registration of $500 with the remainder being reimbursed by way of subsidy from January 1, 2018. Applications to Greyhounds Australasia for stud dog registration from 1st January 2018
• Expansion of the Superbonus scheme in line with consultation with the ICG from January 1, 2018. Specific details to be released shortly.

SA BRED MAIDEN PAYMENT - $1,000 IF WHELPED IN 2016

The SA bred maiden payment rewards participants that get a greyhound to the track to win a race.

GRSA has committed to dramatically increase this payment from $175 to $1,000 ($500 breeder/$500 owner) on 1st July, 2017. This will result in all greyhounds that are whelped in 2016 being eligible for this support.

SYNDICATION INTEREST FROM TRAINERS

Greyhound Racing SA is interested in gaining feedback from trainers who would be interested in having their details made available to any prospective syndicate groups.

GRSA receives a number of queries from owners about getting involved with their friends, however, it is quite hard for them to find a trainer. Those trainers who are comfortable with this please respond to Shaun Mathieson via email [email protected] or phone (08) 8243 7100. These details would only be made available to syndicate groups.
