Angle Park Preview - Thursday 8th February

It looks to be another huge night of racing here at headquarters, we have 2 Semis of the 2018 St Leger which are races 7 and 8 on the programme, add to that we have 2 very strong events over the 600m and 731m throughout the night. Don’t forget all races are First Four and Trifecta events and that’s where we saluted last week (race7) with a First Four paying over $3,700.00 and the Trifecta was a lazy $800 smackers (I hope you all followed).
Race 1 – Has the guaranteed Trifecta pool of $10,000 and it’s definitely a tricky event to kick off with but we will go with the pacey Mighty Barcia from box 4. He held on to win here last start in good time and appears one of the main chances again. Zipping Zeus will be running on strongly and is a must for the Trifecta punters. Add Vee Bee Dooley who is well drawn. Box Up 1.4.6.7.
Race 2 - The Jovanovic kennel has a handy team at the moment and they can win with Cairnlea Jet in this, he can be hit and miss on box rise but should be able to kick up early at take holding out. Arch Rival won on debut over the short at Strathalbyn and must be kept safe. Box Up the inside four.1.2.3.4.
Race 3 - The Cameron Butcher camp always has a class act in their kennel and they look to have another in Up Time Girl, she won on debut in 30.14 and followed up here last start with a 30.02 win from box 1. Victa Ollie has been racing well and is drawn for a bold showing down in box 1, add Spring Shirl who has won 3 of her past 5 at this venue. Box Up 1.3.4.6.
Race 4 - As mentioned earlier this is a first class 600m event and we see On Fire step up to the extra distance tonight, he has resumed from injury with 2 wins over the sprint here and has been crying out for a bit further. Kennel mate Jays Ace is well drawn and will be right in the finish, add the inform Double Indemnity who has won 3 from 5 at this distance and we look to be in for an interesting race. Box Up 1.4.7.8.
Race 5 - Cairnlea Kenny will start the punters elect in this but will need a clear run in the first 50m to have a major say. Don’t Kid Me led them a merry dance from this draw last week and won in a slick 29.78 at big odds, he is very smart when out on the lure and will be hard to beat again on that run. Spring Bloom is the value runner as she will be working home late. Box Up 1.6.7.8.
Race 6 - The Kenny Gill trained Windmill Haze can return to the winner’s circle tonight in this company, he hasn’t had a huge amount of luck in recent starts and I expect him to bounce back. Rachel Zane has terrific short course form and could lead here for a long way. Box Up 1.3.6.7.
Race 7 - This is the first of 2 Semis of the SA St Leger and the two main chances have drawn out wide in Victa Louise and Nirimba Pirate, both are quick early and can run sub 30 with a clear run. Zellman made late ground in his heat when second from this draw and he can run into the placings once again. Box Up 1.3.7.8.
Race 8 - The second Semi and it’s hard to go past Zinfandel Zara even though she was beaten here last start, she has a terrific record of 6 wins from her 8 starts and has carved out very quick times here in the past. Fabwik is another handy youngster who should be right in the mix. Box Up 2.3.7.8.
Race 9 - He has proven costly at his 2 starts here in SA and that is Zipping Hawk, he needs to improve sharply after missing the start here last week but we will give him another chance from a favourable draw. Sketchy Gun was a last start winner here in good time from this draw and is a definite threat again. Box Up 1.4.6.8.
Race 10 - This is a classy 731m and there looks to be 3 main chances in the field of 5, I will stick with the Gavin Harris trained Springvale Cooke as she has the form on the board with 2 smart wins here in as many starts. Topology should take up the early lead and could be a chance of pinching this with luck. Acheron loves to run a place and will be doing his best work late. Box Up 1.2.4.8.
Race 11 - Its always good to go home on a winner and the Troy Murray trained Terpillar has won 3 from his last 4 starts here and Gawler and with moderate beginners on his inside should be able to lead and win. Allen Yani is a newcomer from Victoria and is a chance of adding value to our First Four. Box Up 1.2.4.5.

ST LEGER SEMI FINALS TONIGHT
After three outstanding heats last Wednesday, tonight’s semi-finals look a terrific contest for some of our best local up and coming chasers.
The first semi-final (race 7 @ 8.43pm) features heat winner Victa Louise for Robyn Mackellar who ran a brilliant 29.86 last Wednesday. Victa Louise has been in scintillating form over the short course and now looks likes the 515m will suit. She will be challenged by the likes of Zellman, Emerley Storm and heat winner Nirimba Pirate (29.78).
The second semi-final (race 8 @ 9.07pm) looks a little stronger with exciting speedster Zinfandel Zara for Gavin Harris looking to bounce back from her defeat in the heats. She won two open grade features in December and after one run from a short break should be nearing her peak. She will be challenged by heat winner Long Gully Gus (29.78), Emerley Nolen, Flying Ellen and Fabwick.
The first 4 from each semi-final will qualify for next week’s $9,290 final on Thursday, 15th February. The box draw will be conducted on course after the running of race 9 tonight.
RASMUSSENS HEADING TO THE MEADOWS SATURDAY NIGHT
The Rasmussen team is again on the road this weekend with some of their most exciting chasers taking on the best Victoria has to offer at the Meadows on Saturday night.
Honcho Monelli will kick of proceedings for them in race 5 (8.08pm SA time) and has drawn nicely in box 1 while star sprinter Hukanui has drawn box 6 in race 6 (8.28pm) and will need some luck early. Ashom Monelli who ran a brilliant 34.60 over the 600m at Angle Park Monday night will also go over 600m Saturday night and has drawn box 3 in race 7 at 8.45pm. Nangar Bear ends proceedings for the camp in race 10 at 9.50pm and has drawn box 2. We wish them every success flying the SA flag.
ANGLE PARK LIGHTING UPDATE/SUNDAY TRIALS/TRACK TURNOVER
Experts from Tigerlight Australia will install a fix to the new lights tomorrow afternoon, continuing into the morning of Saturday 10th February.
This will require the transfer of the normal Saturday morning trial session to Sunday 11th February.
The Maintenance team will also take this as an opportunity to perform a track turnover and grade of the Angle Park surface tomorrow Friday 9th February.
GRSA HOT WEATHER POLICY UPDATE
GRSA advises that an updated version of the Hot Weather Policy came into effect last week.
The main changes that participants need to be aware off are:
• All weather forecasts will be sourced from BoM (this used to be Weatherzone)
• The kennel house will be open half an hour earlier for kennelling if the forecast temperature at the corresponding regional centre is 32°C or above

BREEDER SUPPORT CHANGES
A number of Breeder Support Changes have come into effect from January 1. The first phase of that framework will commence with the introduction of the following support strategies:
• 100% increase to the breeder component of the SA Bred Scheme from July 1, 2019 (which will impact more recent litters and all future breeding activity)
• The introduction of a subsidy of $30 per week for any retired greyhound on the waiting list to go into GAP that is being kept on a Trainer’s or Owner’s approved premises from January 1, 2018 commencing from the start of the 7th week on the list post-retirement. Existing arrangements around subsidised boarding will remain unchanged. New placement forms will be available.
• An increase to the average Breeders’ Support Payment by 40% through the introduction of a fixed payment of $100 per pup for litters whelped after January 1, 2018. New claim forms will be sent out with new services lodged from 1st January 2018.
• The elimination of fees for natural notice of service, FSI notice of service rebated by GRSA, litter registration and naming from January 1, 2018.
• An increase to the subsidy for DNA testing of breeding females to cover the full cost of (approximately) $180 from January 1, 2018. Applications to Greyhounds Australasia for DNA testing from 1st January 2018.
• A cap on the cost of sire registration of $500 with the remainder being reimbursed by way of subsidy from January 1, 2018. Applications to Greyhounds Australasia for stud dog registration from 1st January 2018
• Expansion of the Superbonus scheme in line with consultation with the ICG from January 1, 2018. Specific details to be released shortly.
SA BRED MAIDEN PAYMENT - $1,000 IF WHELPED IN 2016
The SA bred maiden payment rewards participants that get a greyhound to the track to win a race. GRSA has committed to dramatically increase this payment from $175 to $1,000 ($500 breeder/$500 owner) on 1st July, 2017. This will result in all greyhounds that are whelped in 2016 being eligible for this support.
SYNDICATION INTEREST FROM TRAINERS
Greyhound Racing SA is interested in gaining feedback from trainers who would be interested in having their details made available to any prospective syndicate groups. GRSA receives a number of queries from owners about getting involved with their friends, however, it is quite hard for them to find a trainer. Those trainers who are comfortable with this please respond to Shaun Mathieson via email [email protected] or phone (08) 8243 7100. These details would only be made available to syndicate groups.
TRIAL DATES FOR STRATHALBYN
All bookings for normal trials will be taken by the Club. As they do on Wednesday nights they will now also take the bookings for Friday nights. You can book trials via text MSG / or call Yvonne King at the Club on 0407 334 349 between 9am and 11am on the day of the trials. All qualifying trials will need to be booked through GRSA as per normal by 12.30pm on the day of the Qualy trials. GRSA thanks the support of Yvonne and the Strathalbyn GRC in regard to these changes.

ANGLE PARK QUALIFYING TRIALS
Angle Park Qualifying Trials are weekly on Tuesday night, for the corresponding Monday APM meeting and the Wednesday APD meeting.
Trainers must be specific on their nominations about which day they are trialling for and what distance. (ie Wed 388m, Mon 515, Mon 600m etc)
Tuesday Angle Park Qualifying dates are:
February 13th (for APM Monday meeting on 19th February – for APD Wednesday meeting on 21st February)
February 20th (for APM Monday meeting on 26th February – no APD Wednesday meeting on 28th February due to Time Grading meeting)
February 27th (for APM Monday meeting on 5th March – for APD Wednesday meeting on 7th March)
March 6th (for APM Monday meeting on 12th March – for APD Wednesday meeting on 14th March)
