TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

Its finals night here at headquarters with the running of the two National Finals over the Sprint and Distance, they are races 4 and 6 on the programme. Both events look to be very open so good luck to both trainer and connections in both. As always, all races are Trifecta and First Four events on the 10-event card.

Race 1 - American Man can kick us off on the right note the Rasmussen trained sprinter, he is well drawn down in box 1 and can kick up and hold the early lead. Yarindale made a very good impression when winning on debut for the Butcher kennel in good time and appears the big danger. Box Up 1.2.5.8

Race 2 - The Colin Swain trained Ardmona Miss has been very consistent of late and gets her chance to break through from a rails draw, she can be hit and miss on lid rise but is a must for our Trifecta. Personality looks to be from a very handy litter and is making her debut, add Subtle Girl who will be running on late. Box Up 1.2.4.7

Race 3 - Cawbourne Clint has been racing well and won here last start in 30.14, he has the pace to lead again and is our top pick. Minnie Mac loves to run a place and can do so again. Gemtree Ablaze can add the value to the First Four. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 4 - This is the National Distance Final and it sure is a very open affair, I am going with a dog that is having his 1st start over the journey in Master Chaos, he has very good form over the sprint and might be able to jump to the front and pinch this at handy odds. Saldana and Sale Graze Bindi have been racing without luck but both have form over the trip. Box Up 2.5.6.7

Race 5 - The Ben Rawlings trained Miss Breakout is in excellent form winning her last 3 here all in quick times, she has the pace to lead again and looks one of the better bets on the programme. Whata Key returned to the winners circle with an all the way win here last start in good time and appears the danger. Box up 1.2.5.8

Race 6 - The Final over the Sprint and we will go with the inform Fantastic Yankee, he proved far too strong when winning here last week in 30.12. He has a very big motor and looks the measuring stick. Ebby Lamar and Canya Chase can run into the placings. Box up 1.3.5.7

Race 7 - There looks to be several chances here and we will go with West On Tia who is dropping back to the sprint tonight, she has been struggling over the 731m in recent runs and should be hard to beat if she is close enough early. Valide has handy short course form and can lead for a long way. Box Up 1.4.5.8

Race 8 - The Steve Brooks sprinter Road Travelled is in outstanding form with 4 wins from his last 5 starts all in sub 30s he can lead again and will prove hard to beat again. Sunset Harlow is another who keeps on winning, he is in the powerful Murray kennel and cant be left out of calculations. Box Up 2.5.6.7

Race 9 - Fantastic Arlo is in the Barry Stewart kennel ,the veteran trainer certainly knows how to put the polish on a handy chaser, he is working towards a win and was placed up the straight at Murray Bridge last start which should sharpen him up. Spring Taylor and Exciting Times will be in the mix. Box Up 2.5.7.8

Race 10 - This is a toughie to go home on so lets hope we are in front, Lucas Entity has only had the 1 start here in SA when unplaced, he is a lot better than that gallop and a win wouldn’t surprise. Weblec Queen can be hit and miss on box rise and should be right in this, she will be rattling home late. Box Up 2.4.5.8

TRIALLING AT MURRAY BRIDGE AT RACE MEETINGS

For trials at Race meetings when available (less than 12 races) at Murray Bridge when it is a One turn meeting we will only have the One turn trials available in between kennelling and the first race.

Similar for the Straight track it will only be Straight track trials.

GAWLER SHOW DATES AND CHANGES

August means that it is coming up to Gawler Show time, so some Gawler meetings will be transferred to Angle Park this year.
This year the Annual Gawler Show will be held on the weekend of Saturday, 24th and Sunday, 25th August. Racing on Friday, 23rd August will be at Angle Park on the Finish On Lure (as there are finals on this program from heats on Wednesday 14th August this meeting will also be a Finish On Lure meeting). Racing on Tuesday, 27th August will be at Angle Park and will be raced with the Finish On Lure. Both meetings will carry the normal prizemoney for both these days and will be considered APD Provincial 2 for grading

Trials will be cancelled at Gawler on Thursday, 22nd August due to Show preparations. We will hopefully have the track ready to trial again on Thursday, 29th August, but this will be dependent on the weather over the show weekend. There will be trials at Angle Park on Wednesday, 21st August and on Saturday, 24th August.
