TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

With another big night of racing here at headquarters we have a 12-event programme. There are 3 Heats of the 2016 Auction Series over the 515m and the Shane McQueen Feature Final carrying a $6,500 to the winner’s cheque over the 600m. As always all races are trifecta and first four events. I hope you followed me last week as you would have had a very handy return for my best bets and trifecta selections.

Race 1 - We tipped him last week and he saluted the judge and that is Bean Monelli, he is drawn well again for a bold showing and can kick us off on a winning note. Kennel mate Larrikin Locky can add value to our first four along with Hesa Marlow and Snakebite Bale who will be rattling home late. Box Up 1.3.4.8.

Race 2 - The Maiden of the night and when in doubt go with the box draw so we will tip Talitha Cumi who has the rails draw. Striking Jewel is knocking on the door along with Dakota Cam. Box Up 1.2.7.8.

Race 3 - The first of the Auction Series Heats and last start winner of the Howard Ashton Final Waterloo Kate looks very hard to beat again, she showed early pace here last week from box 1 and collected a massive $25,000 for her connections. Bereluke has handy form and is more than capable if left alone early. Box Up 2.6.7.8.

Race 4 - Flying Ellen is the in-form runner of this field and has won her past 2 here in good fashion, she looks one of the better bets of the night. Game Over is better than recent form suggests and is a likely improver. Add Barwell Boy who has had a stint in Victoria. Box Up 2.3.4.7.

Race 5 - This is the third and final Heat of the Auction series and Springvale Choix should start the punters elect, he made good ground here last week when 3rd behind kennel mate Waterloo Kate and should be right in the mix again. De Choix has a good turn of early pace and is a chance of pinching this with luck so she is a must for our Trifecta. Box Up 1.4.6.8.

Race 6 - Feral Lad has been in terrific of late with 4 wins from his last 5 starts including a 30.06 win here over this trip, he looks boxed to win again from his rails draw. Zellman has been racing well over the short and should be able to run into the placings along with Alpha Aion. Box Up 1.4.6.8.

Race 7 - The Tony Rasmussen trained chaser in Honcho Monelli is all class and is boxed for a bold showing, he has a personal best of 29.42 here and should go very close. Hot Marlow is a pacey type and will be in front for a long way. Hukanui will be rattling home late and is a must for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.5.6.

Race 8 - This is the Final of the 2018 Shane McQueen over the 600m and it is certainly a top-class affair. The main chances look to be On Fire and Cairnlea Jet, both were last start winners here in good times and they should nearly run the Quinella. Spring Bloom is our value runner as she will be running on strongly. Box Up 3.5.6.9.

Race 9 - The Rasmussen kennel should have a big night with their team and it’s very hard to go past Zudactyl Monelli from box 4, he found a heap of trouble here at his last run over the 731m when odds on favourite, he resumes here and will be very hard to beat.  Croydon Boys should get home hard. Box Up 4.6.7.8.

Race 10 - There looks to be several chances in this so it makes for a terrific betting race, the Rawlings kennel has a new one in Bogie Bullet, she had 1 start here over the short last month and won in a handy 22.53, with 5 wins and 4 placings from just 12 starts we will put her on top. Funky Monkey and Sutton Nicky are big chances and can’t be over looked. Box up 1.2.5.8.

Race 11 – With the scratching of Panhandle Slim it looks like both Half A Mill and Fantastic Chief are drawn well and are huge chances in a pretty open affair. Box Up 1.2.5.6.

Race 12 - The Rasmussen kennel can go home on a winning note with Menzali out in box 7, he battled on strongly to finish 2nd behind Aston Abbott in 29.93 at his SA debut and can go one better tonight. Deflection and Zoro Bale are moderate starters but will be doing their best work late. Box Up 1.2.7.8.

Breeders 2019 – Second Payment - Pups Born Jan 17 to June 17
This payment is for greyhounds for which the first Sustaining Payment was made last December. The Second Sustaining Payment is $55 per pup or a Final Payment of $121 can be made at this stage.

Classic 2019 – First Payment - Pups Born July 17 to Dec 17

If you haven’t received a reminder and you think you should have, contact us asap.

PARTICIPANT DRESS CODE

Stewards remind participants to ensure they comply with all requirements of the GRSA Dress Code when attending race meetings when involved in racing.

CHANGES TO 6 MONTH TRIAL POLICY FROM JUNE 1

GRSA Stewards have recently undertaken a benchmarking exercise with other states around field sizes for greyhounds looking to return to racing after not competing for more than six (6) months.  The Stewards view is the spirit of the rule about unraced greyhound for more than six (6) months is to ensure the greyhound is fit to race.

In an effort to assist participants, the GRSA Trial Policy will be amended, to allow greyhounds which have not raced for more than six (6) months to be able to complete a satisfactory trial as a solo trial.  This change will take effect as of 1 June 2018. The provisions of GAR72 and GAR77A still apply.

CLAIMING RACES BEING CONDUCTED

Specific claiming race conditions have been released for these events, but basically, greyhounds are graded into an event with a claiming price.

Prior to the event, new owners can buy the greyhound before it starts with any prizemoney won being retained by the old owners and then the new owners take the greyhound after the race.
These races provide an opportunity to sell and buy greyhounds that are currently competing.
Races are programmed on –
Wednesday 13th June – 388m
Tuesday 19th June – 400m (Gawler)
Wednesday 27th June – 388m

MOUNT GAMBIER RUNNING ADDITIONAL FORTNIGHTLY THURSDAY MEETING

The Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club is running an additional fortnightly Thursday afternoon race meeting over the coming months.

The addition of these meetings follows consultation between the Club and GRSA on servicing local participants during the temporary closure of the Warrnambool Greyhound Club for refurbishments from May to August. With the pool of nominations for Mount Gambier coming from the South East region of SA and from across the border in country Victoria, it is believed that an extra meeting per fortnight will assist participation in the region. The change will result in Mount Gambier racing on a two week cycle of Friday/Sunday in the first week and then Thursday/Sunday in the second week.
GRSA have released extra dates in the first instance in late May, June and July to establish support, with the intent to add additional meetings in August whilst the Warrnambool works take place (estimated at 4 months). GRSA thanks the support of the Mt Gambier GRC, Radio TAB, staff and Sky Racing for their support for these extra meetings.
Date changes are listed below –
Add: Mount Gambier – Thursday 21st June 2018  (TAB) Day (Time Graded by Groups)
Add: Mount Gambier – Thursday 5th July 2018  (TAB) Day
Add: Mount Gambier – Thursday 19th July 2018  (TAB) Day

KURT DONSBERG – ONCOURSE RACE NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHER

Recently Kurt was able to extend his roster to not only do Thursday night meetings at Angle Park but also the Monday night and Wednesday day meetings, however, due to personal commitments he is unable to do Monday nights until later in the year. Kurt will continue as normal with Thursdays and also Wednesdays based on his availability.

On those days/nights of racing when Kurt is not oncourse GRSA will continue to allow participants to take their own presentation photos and if required, gain access to the presentation area. Please just liaise with the Stewards on the day for access.

ACCELL THERAPY MAT NOW AVAILABLE AT ANGLE PARK

The mat is now available in the foyer area of the Angle Park building. It is recommended that a greyhound derives benefit with a 15 to 20 minute session and is generally for recovery from racing or injury. It will be available during normal office hours to be used (greyhounds racing on that day excluded). Please ask the Racing Admin staff if you wish to use the mat. GRSA is working towards making this available also during trial sessions.

TRIAL DATES FOR STRATHALBYN

You can book trials via text MSG / or call Yvonne King at the Club on 0407 334 349 between 9am and 11am on the day of the trials.  All qualifying trials will need to be booked through GRSA as per normal by 12.30pm on the day of the Qualy trials.
