TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

We had a very good night on the punt here last week, my roughie of the night failed to fire on the night but backed up with a terrific win here Monday at the juicy odds of 8/1. She is engaged in the first tonight and she can make it back to back wins. There looks to be several good things on the card tonight and as usual all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - We tipped her last week as our roughie and that is Go Brandi, she was trapped wide into the back and finished 6th, she then led throughout for a strong 29.95 win here Monday night from box 8 so we will put her on top again. Roxy’s Daisy is racing well as is Stitch Em’ Rosey. Box Up 1.3.4.8.

Race 2 - The Rasmussen kennel rarely goes home without a winner and Double That won here 2 starts back in 30.17, he is well drawn again tonight and should be too strong. Little Biddy can be hit and miss early but is very strong late. Box Up 1.2.3.6.

Race 3 - This is the Distance affair of the night and we will stick with Cairnlea Jet down in box 1, he was run down in the final stages by Ethics here last week when a very short price favourite, he looks the leader again and should be to strong. Nations will take beating if he is able to lead and was a last start winner in quick time over the 600m, he certainly is the main danger. Box Up 1.4.6.7

Race 4 - We have tipped Larrikin Locky in recent weeks and he hasn’t had a huge amount of luck but he looks well-drawn tonight and can finally break through for us. Charlie Chops is drawn for a bold showing and is a must for the Trifecta along with Mepunga Gal who will be rattling home late. Box Up 2.6.7.8.

Race 5 - This is the 600m event of the night and a very good one at that, I like one at handy odds in Destini Rocket, she has handy form over this trip and won here 4 runs back in 35.27, with moderate beginners on her inside she might be able to cross and lead. Max Jake is very smart when on song and should start the punters elect. Box Up 1.3.4.6.

Race 6 - How good is this for a First Four event, there are a heap of chances as it’s a wide open affair. I like Shima Mart and Don’t Quote Me both are in good form and have early pace. Windmill Haze hit back with a good win at Gawler last start so we can’t leave him out of calculations along with Long Gully Gus who is the form runner. Box Up 2.3.4.7

Race 7 - This is another open affair and we will go with the Troy Murray trained Premier Double who is in superb form, he has won 3 of his past 4 and is boxed for a bold showing here. Samprass and Wanchai Express can run into the placings. Box Up the inside four. 1.2.3.4

Race 8 - Honcho Monelli returned to the winners’ circle here last week when winning by over 4 lengths in 29.86 from this draw, he should do the same again tonight.

Blastoise can add some value to our First Four from a favourable draw as can Croydon Boys and Westside Nippa. Box Up 1.2.4.5.

Race 9 - The Colin Swain kennel looks to have a handy one in Ebby Lamar, he has a good turn of early pace and from the rails draw should go very close. Vermouth is very consistent and is certainly the big danger with a vacant box on his inside. Box Up 2.4.5.7

Race 10 - Black Antico can send us home on a winning note after his last weeks effort when charging home to run 3rd behind Private Nangar, he is very slow early but with early luck might be able to kick up and hold a decent possie into the back. Big Col Prosser loves to run a place and is a must for our First Four along with Blue Blaze who was a last start winner at Murray Bridge from the same draw. Box Up 1.2.6.7

IMPORTANT CHANGE TO NOMINATION PROCESS AND RACE MEETING COMPOSITION

(To take effect from February 11)

GRSA has a fundamental responsibility to manage weekly nominations and the scheduling of meetings in a manner which is responsive to the environment in which we operate and that best serves the interests of our local participants.  In noting the frequency with which nominations for race meetings are being extended – particularly during the summer months – and having regard for current supply pressures, the Racing Department will be adopting a new approach to race meeting composition from Monday, February 11.

For all meetings, other than for extraordinary circumstances, each timeslot will be afforded ONE extension of nominations period only.  The table below summarises the current standard closing times for meeting nominations and the final closing time that will apply from February 11.  In the event that the standard nominations closing time changes (due to Public Holiday, for example) the Racing Department will notify of that change via text and Industry Facebook.

Additionally, the priority for the Racing Department in constructing a race meeting will be to prioritise the number of races conducted over average field size.  To the extent that some smaller field sizes need to be drawn – noting that a standard minimum of six runners will apply – to meet that objective, that is the approach that will be adopted.  Exceptions to the minimum field size may apply in some instances such as for Thursday night staying events, match races, mixed higher grade events, time grading or to accommodate specific feature race requirements.

A - APRIL (26th April  Race 8 No 2) – Cairnlea Jet

The Run of the Month for April was Cairnlea Jet for trainer Petar Jovanovic for his performance at Angle Park on Thursday, 26th April in the Anniversary Cup final. Cairnlea Jet was taking on the best sprinters in the State and ran a super race. From box 2 he was able to position just off the pace in second spot before exploding to the front down the back straight. From there he was powerful to the line running a super 29.45 for the 515m journey in winning by 2 lengths against a very strong field. His splits were 4.45, 16.82 with a run home of 12.63.

B - JULY (1st July  Race 7 No 8) – Rockoon

The Run of the Month for July was Rockoon for Tracie Price at Mt Gambier on 1st July over the 512m in an Open event where he ran 29.28 setting a new track record! Beginning from box 8 Rockoon jumped well, swooping around the first bend to find himself in a great position near the front of the pack before he accelerated down the back straight leaving his rivals in his wake and going on to win by 8.5 lengths breaking the previous track record by an impressive 2 lengths

C - AUGUST (2nd August  Race 5 No 7) – Honcho Monelli

The Run of the Month for August was the Tony Rasmussen trained Honcho Monelli for his brilliant performance at Angle Park on Thursday 2nd August. He started a warm favourite in a heat of the National Sprint State series and he didn’t disappoint his fans. Beginning fairly from box 7 he raced midfield before making his customary move down the back straight where he swooped upon the leaders in a blink of an eye. He raced away in the run home to win by an ever increasing 8.75 lengths in a sizzling 29.42 for the 515m journey. His splits were 4.54 and 16.86 with a powerful run home of 12.56.

D - NOVEMBER (22nd November Race 2 No 2) – Sennachie

The Run of the Month for November was in a Maiden event by a greyhound having its first start in a race. Sennachie for Kirin Corby created a massive impression on debut when the son of Fernando Bale and Rhonda Rocks blistered around the Angle Park loam in a sizzling 29.52 for the 515m journey on Thursday 22nd November. He won by almost 19 lengths and recorded a time for a Maiden that very few Maidens have replicated over the years.

PORT AUGUSTA MOVED FROM 23RD MARCH TO 16TH MARCH

GRSA has approved a swap of meetings after the Port Augusta GRC requested they race on Saturday 16th March instead on Saturday 23rd March for their Non TAB Twilight meeting.

Delete: Port Augusta – Saturday 23rd March 2019 (Non TAB) Twilight

Add: Port Augusta – Saturday 16th March 2019 (Non TAB) Twilight

GRADE 6 CONDITIONS TO CHANGE DUE TO MONDAY NIGHT 388M FROM 10TH FEBRUARY 2019
Currently GRSA FOR THE Monday night fields has been using the Wednesday grade, Wednesday prizemoney and making the races Non Penalty due to Grade 6 implications.  Because of this it is a manual process of altering grades, which is not sustainable or acceptable long term, and with the non-penalty application no greyhounds are progressing through the grades over the 388m. This process was only meant to be for one or two races as required but as 388m are now considered like all other races on a Monday night this process has to be changed.

The best way to manage these 388m races is for them to now take a penalty; however, prizemoney will be Provincial 1 short course money just like Gawler on Friday for 400m events. This will then provide consistency again between these meetings. The prizemoney for 388m racing is still less than the 515m+ events as GRSA Board requirements.

For meetings graded from 10th February, 2019 (first meeting affected will be Monday, 18th February) all greyhounds will use their City B grade and not APD Wednesday grade. There will be no retrospective grading for meetings graded from 10th February, 2019. So what grade your greyhound is at that time is what it will be going forward.

With 388m now considered on a Monday night (City B) the grading guidelines will also be changed (see below) to have consistency with our tracks. The main change is City A Thursday stands alone with winning only one Grade 6 event and also if you win a Grade 5 event you lose all Grade 6’s everywhere which has been in for some time. City B Monday night will now be considered for meetings graded from 10th February, 2019 like Gawler where you could win two Grade 6’s as part of your 4 (Non SA Bred) or 12 (SA Bred). This means, on a Monday greyhounds can win a 388m and then a 515m or a 600m and 515m. Please contact the Grader for further clarification if required.

GRADE 6

All Grade 6 greyhounds remain eligible to complete their future engagements.

For greyhounds that have not won a Grade 5 or above at the track at the time of nomination.  However a greyhound will be ineligible for Grade 6 events if it has won an APK Grade 5 or above event over 515m. (5NP races in SA are exempt).

Non-SA Bred Greyhounds:

For City A (APK only) track, Non SA Bred greyhounds are eligible to win one (1) Grade 6 (2 with a ‘Beat the Grader’ win) at that track.  Non-SA Bred Greyhounds are eligible to win two (2) Grade 6 (3 with a 'Beat The Grader' win) at all other tracks in South Australia over different distances. There will be no retrospective grading for meetings graded from 10th February 2019. Once a greyhound wins its fourth Grade 6 (5 with a ‘Beat the Grader’ win/s), at any tracks where it is still eligible for Grade 6 grade, it will revert to a Grade 5.

SA Bred Greyhound

For City A (APK only) track, SA Bred greyhounds are eligible to win one (1) Grade 6 (2 with a ‘Beat the Grader’ win) at that track. At City B & Provincial Tracks (APM, APD, Gawler, Murray Bridge & Mount Gambier) SA Bred greyhounds can win one (1) Grade 6 (2 with a ‘Beat the Grader’ win) over 2 different distances at that track . There will be no retrospective grading for meetings graded from 10th February 2019.  At Country Tracks, SA Bred greyhounds can win one (1) Grade 6 (2 with a ‘Beat the Grader’ win) over each distance at that track. Once a greyhound wins at total of 12 races at any tracks where it is still eligible for Grade 6 grade, it will revert to a Grade 5.
