TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

I hope everybody enjoyed their Easter and relaxed a little, we can hit the ground running with a few winners tonight on the 10-event programme here at headquarters. The highlight of the night has to be race 6 over the 731m; we have 7 runners who can all stake their claim with luck.

Race 1 - The Cameron Butcher kennel can kick off the night with a winner or two and they have a strong chance with Hope’s Beau here in the opening event, he has a terrific record here and should lead and win. Tyla Grace is the value runner for our First Four and is drawn for a bold showing. Box Up 1.2.4.6.

Race 2 - Abuzz has won his last five here and Gawler all in good times and he can bring up a race to race double for the Butcher team. Kenny Gill always has a handy one in his kennel and Watsargo can run a cheeky race from his inside draw. Lucy Stardust is quick early and can fill a place. Box up 1.2.6.8.

Race 3 - Ray Murray has Panhandle Slim racing well, he hasn’t missed a place in his last 5 starts but he needs to improve his box manners. Fine Chapman was a big winner at Gawler last start in quick time from this draw and appears a huge chance. Box Up 1.3.4.6.

Race 4 - The Jovanovic kennel has Cairnlea Jet racing well and with moderate beginners around him he should be able to possie up early and take beating from his rails draw. Spring Addo is a strong type and will be doing his best work late as will Dyna Quail. Box up 2.3.7.8

Race 5 - This is a toughie, the main chances will come from High Eden Snow who is resuming from a lengthy break. Mr. Arjay and Jays Ace all are more than capable on their night but are hard to split in this, add Emerley Nolen who will be running on late. Box Up 1.2.4.6.

Race 6 - As mentioned earlier I love distance racing and we have an absolute ripper in this, the Rasmussen kennel has 3 runners who all have been racing well. Purpose Driven hasn’t missed a cheque at her 13 starts over this trip with 5 wins and 8 placings. Springvale Cooke is another with a great record of 5 wins and 7 placings from her 11 starts ( who wins? ) Box up 1.2.3.6.

Race 7 - Springvale Hope led them a merry dance here last start when winning by over 10 lengths in a handy 30.10, she should be on the pace early from her draw of 1 and is our top pick. Terpillar has been knocking on the door and is a must for the Trifecta. Box Up 1.2.3.8.

Race 8 - Its very hard to go past the inform Honcho Monelli in this, he has won his past 4 here all over the sprint in sensational times, for mine he just wins again but will be at very skinny odds. Slipper’s Time has pace and looks the likely leader but would need luck to pinch this, add Larrikin Locky and Pyredos Monelli for the First Four. Box Up 2.3.4.6.

Race 9 - There looks to be several chances but when in doubt we must go with the box draw and that is Just Ruby for Richard Pearce down in box 1, she has won 2 of her past 3 here including a 30.04 run from box 3. Spring Irish lacks early pace but is a must for the First Four as he will be running on late. Darcy Brown has pace and is a winner of 3 of his past 4 over the 500m. Box Up 1.4.5.7.

Race 10 - Its always good to go home on a winner and we can here with Tal Lee who won last start in 31.19 at Gawler from this draw. Irka Jakit has been on the improve and is a must for our Trifecta and First Four. Box Up 1.2.6.8.

ANGLE PARK TRACK MAINTENANCE NEXT WEEKEND

Please note that the Maintenance team intends to medium harrow the Angle Park surface on Friday 13th April.

As a result, the surface for trialing on Saturday morning and racing the following Monday is likely to be impacted. Confirmation of these works will occur early next week and is subject to a favorable weather forecast.

ONE OFF HEATS CONDUCTED

When graded heats are programmed in the All Tracks calendar GRSA makes every effort to run as many heats as possible however on occasion there may only be sufficient nominations to run one heat.

GRSA supports those that nominated by running this as a heat to final and if there are reserves then those greyhounds are also considered for the final even if they did not compete in the heat. This policy has been determined by the Grading Review Panel previously. The GRP also determined if there were less than 8 runners then this one off heat should not be programmed. This policy was brought about due the Grade 5 heats on Wednesday to a Monday night final being knocked about by scratching’s and injury a few years ago when less than 8 runners were in the heat resulting in the final being a 3 dog race. If no heat then a normally graded race would then be considered. This has been put into practice for subsequent series.

ACCELL THERAPY MATT NOW AVAILABLE AT ANGLE PARK

GRSA have been organising access for participants to an Accell Therapy Matt at Angle Park.

The Matt is now available in the foyer area of the building. It is recommended that a greyhound derives benefit with about a 15 to 20 minute session and is generally for recovery from racing or injury. It will be available during normal office hours to be used (greyhounds racing on that day excluded). Please ask the Racing Admin staff if you wish to use the Matt. GRSA is working towards making this available also during trial sessions.

TRIAL FEES AT RACE MEETINGS FROM 1ST APRIL

With GRSA allowing for trials under certain conditions at race meetings, on occasions payment of these trials may have been overlooked however from the 1st April any greyhound trialling at the race meeting the trainer will be required to pay staff as they would at a normal trial session.

This will be consistent with all our racing and trialling meetings.

CLAIMING RACE CONDITIONS AVAILABLE

Specific claiming race conditions have been released for these events, but basically, greyhounds are graded into an event with a claiming price.

Prior to the event, new owners can buy the greyhound before it starts with any prizemoney won being retained by the old owners and then the new owners take the greyhound after the race.
These races provide an opportunity to sell and buy greyhounds that are currently competing.
The next Claiming race scheduled are –
Angle Park on Wednesday, 18th April over 388m.

ANGLE PARK TUESDAY TRIALS NOW STARTING AT 6PM

From the most recent Industry Consultative Group meeting it was determined to start the Angle Park Tuesday night trials from 6pm for a 3 month trial period, this started last Tuesday, 6th March.
It was believed this would assist with the lateness of bookings and would also provide more flexibility for participants.
Trainers can book as normal online and by phone. GRSA however will support Satisfactory trials, Qualifying trials, Unproven & Proven trials and marking off of greyhounds with a block of 25 minutes around the same time as normal. (Trainers cannot nominate into this timeslot)
Therefore there will be two blocks of trials from 6pm to 6.50pm allowing for 20 greyhounds to trial, after this staff will then conduct the Satisfactory Trials, Qualifying Trials and mark off greyhounds from 6.50pm to 7.15pm. This also provides an opportunity for GRSA to move the Unproven and Proven greyhound trials earlier in the night, which always used to be the case, where trainers can book into these either online or by phone. Then normal bookings will again commence from 7.15pm.

BREEDER SUPPORT CHANGES

A number of Breeder Support Changes have come into effect from January 1.

The first phase of that framework has commenced with the introduction of the following support strategies:
• 100% increase to the breeder component of the SA Bred Scheme from July 1, 2019 (which will impact more recent litters and all future breeding activity)
• The introduction of a subsidy of $30 per week for any retired greyhound on the waiting list to go into GAP that is being kept on a Trainer’s or Owner’s approved premises from January 1, 2018 commencing from the start of the 7th week on the list post-retirement.  Existing arrangements around subsidised boarding will remain unchanged. New placement forms will be available.
• An increase to the average Breeders’ Support Payment by 40% through the introduction of a fixed payment of $100 per pup for litters whelped after January 1, 2018. New claim forms will be sent out with new services lodged from 1st January 2018.
• The elimination of fees for natural notice of service, FSI notice of service rebated by GRSA, litter registration and naming from January 1, 2018.
• An increase to the subsidy for DNA testing of breeding females to cover the full cost of (approximately) $180 from January 1, 2018. Applications to Greyhounds Australasia for DNA testing from 1st January 2018.
• A cap on the cost of sire registration of $500 with the remainder being reimbursed by way of subsidy from January 1, 2018. Applications to Greyhounds Australasia for stud dog registration from 1st January 2018
• Expansion of the Superbonus scheme in line with consultation with the ICG from January 1, 2018. Specific details to be released shortly.

SA BRED MAIDEN PAYMENT - $1,000 IF WHELPED IN 2016

The SA bred maiden payment rewards participants that get a greyhound to the track to win a race.

GRSA has committed to dramatically increase this payment from $175 to $1,000 ($500 breeder/$500 owner) on 1st July, 2017. This will result in all greyhounds that are whelped in 2016 being eligible for this support.
