TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

Tonight at headquarters we have a terrific 10 event programme to kick start what we hope will be a very successful 2018 on the punt, it looks a good night to follow the powerful Rasmussen team as they appear to have several good chances throughout the evening. Don’t forget the $10,000 guaranteed trifecta pool on race 1 tonight, its well worth a crack!

Race 1 – We have tipped him in recent weeks and that is Born Billy, he hasn’t let us down with 2 wins here both from this draw and he should prove very hard to beat once again. Game Over has a good turn of early pace and will settle forward. Add in Cairnlea Strider who will be doing his best work over the last 100m for our Trifecta. Box Up 1.2.4.6.

Race 2 - The Cameron Butcher kennel always have a handy one in their team and Aiming is bred in the purple, she won on debut in 30.22 from a rails draw but has found trouble since, she can bounce back and will be right in the finish. Marco Lee loves to fill a place and should do so again tonight. Box Up 2.3.6.8.

Race 3 - Jeannie Shiraz found a heap of trouble here last start but is more than capable of bouncing back from her rails draw, she has the pace to kick up and will be right in the mix. Victa Ollie has speed and Spring Irish will be getting home hard.  Box Up 1.5.6.8.

Race 4 - This is the Distance event of the night and its very hard for me to split the two Gavin Harris trained pair in Springvale Carla and Springvale Cooke, both have been racing well and they look the pair to beat. Add Long Gully Gilly who has been in the money at 11 of his 14 starts over this trip. Box Up 2.3.4.7.

Race 5 - I like one in this at good odds and that is the newcomer in Bean Monelli, the ex-WA performer down in box 2 has 8 wins and 4 placings from his 31 career starts and hasn’t raced since late November 2017, he is well drawn for his SA debut. Alpha Alexander gets his chance to improve despite the draw and will be the improver along with Fiorelli Rose out wide. Box Up 2.5.6.7.

Race 6 - This is a wide-open affair so it makes for a terrific trifecta and pick 4 event Mr Arjay, Sweeping Strikes and Zipping Zeus along with Paua To Rush all have chances if we box them up we should go very close. Box up 3.4.5.6.

Race 7 - We will look for a little bit of value in this so Optic Blast comes into our calculations as he will be the one running on late, he is very tardy early but should be able to get a clear run into the 1st turn. Hot Marlow has struggled at his past 2 outings but is a lot better than recent form suggest so he is a must for our trifecta as is Mighty Barcia who has the perfect draw. Box Up 1.3.4.5.

Race 8 - As mentioned earlier I thought the Rasmussen kennel would have a good night and they have a strong chance in this with Hukanui down in box 1, he had very good form prior to his Gosford run and from the rails draw should take a power of beating. Kennel mate Barton Bale has been first class of late and is well drawn out wide. Box Up 1.3.6.7.

Race 9 - This is the 600m of the night and we should go with the Kenny Gill trained Windmill Haze in box 3, he led throughout here last start for a very good win and can do the same again tonight. Zero Knockin’ has his draw and should figure and Signal Peak is a more than handy chance from his draw of 6. Box Up 1.3.6.8.

Race 10 - I like the inside couple here as they all should get a clear run into the 1st turn, it will get down to the last 100m to decide the winner but they look to be right in the finish, Willing can add the value for us out wide for the multiples. Box Up 2.3.4.8.

The Trainers Fee will be paid upstairs by Hospitality staff between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.

GRSA will provide signage for industry participants and if there is paperwork to be lodged please try and organise with the fulltime staff prior or drop it in the overnight box near the old Administration entry point.

GRSA apologises if this causes inconvenience tonight.

SATURDAY MORNING TRIALS THIS WEEK

GRSA is monitoring the weather forecast and believe it is important to still provide the Saturday morning session at Angle Park this weekend.

Trial times will avoid the hottest part of the day.  GRSA would encourage all trainers to be mindful of the weather conditions and travelling distance on this day, particularly post trials.

BREEDER SUPPORT CHANGES

A number of Breeder Support Changes have come into effect from January 1.  The first phase of that framework will commence with the introduction of the following support strategies:

• 100% increase to the breeder component of the SA Bred Scheme from July 1, 2019 (which will impact more recent litters and all future breeding activity)
• The introduction of a subsidy of $30 per week for any retired greyhound on the waiting list to go into GAP that is being kept on a Trainer’s or Owner’s approved premises  from January 1, 2018 commencing from the start of the 7th week on the list post-retirement.  Existing arrangements around subsidised boarding will remain unchanged.
• An increase to the average Breeders’ Support Payment by 40% through the introduction of a fixed payment of $100 per pup for litters whelped after January 1, 2018
• The elimination of fees for notice of service, litter registration and naming from January 1, 2018
• An increase to the subsidy for DNA testing of breeding females to cover the full cost of (approximately) $180 from January 1, 2018
• A cap on the cost of sire registration of $500 with the remainder being reimbursed by way of subsidy from January 1, 2018
• Expansion of the Superbonus scheme in line with consultation with the ICG from January 1, 2018

NEW RACE TRACK LIGHTING FOR ANGLE PARK IN MID JANUARY

The lights at Angle Park have been in place for a very long time and are in desperate need of replacing.

For GRSA to do this it is going to take a number of days to be completed resulting in a few Angle Park meetings not being conducted in mid-January.  On Monday night the 15th January the meeting will now be conducted at Strathalbyn with Monday night prizemoney. For the meeting on Wednesday the 17th January, the meeting will now be at Gawler during the day. There will be NO trials at Angle Park on Tuesday night 16th January due to the work being conducted however GRSA will conduct another trial session at Gawler on Monday 15th January in the morning.

Racing Date changes -
Delete: Angle Park – Monday 15th January 2018  (TAB) Night
Add: Strathalbyn – Monday 15th January 2018  (TAB) Night

Delete: Angle Park – Wednesday 17th January 2018  (TAB) Day
Add: Gawler – Wednesday 17th January 2018  (TAB) Day

GRSA thanks both the Gawler and Strathalbyn Greyhound Racing Clubs for their support in these racing date changes. Please check the updated January All Tracks calendar for changes to feature races.

SYNDICATION INTEREST FROM TRAINERS

Greyhound Racing SA is interested in gaining feedback from trainers who would be interested in having their details made available to any prospective syndicate groups.

GRSA receives a number of query’s from owners about getting involved with their friends however it is quite hard for them to find a trainer. Those trainers who are comfortable with this please respond to Shaun Mathieson via email [email protected] or phone (08) 8243 7100. These details would be only made available to syndicate groups.

GREYHOUND OF THE YEAR ON FRIDAY 2ND FEBRUARY AT GAWLER 2018

The date has been set for the Greyhound of the Year function at Gawler on Friday night, 2nd February 2018.
It will be terrific to have our prestigious event at the Gawler venue again this year with the response from those that attended last year extremely positive.

COMPLETION OF PAPERWORK

Participants are reminded of their obligation to ensure that when lodging paperwork that it is fully completed and payment is made at the time of lodgement.

GRSA is here to assist should you be unsure of how to complete any paperwork however it is not our responsibility to arrange for its completion, nor is it our responsibility to ensure that it is lodged.  Therefore, please ensure when lodging any paperwork eg, Transfer of Ownerships, Litter Registrations etc that they are fully completed and paid for and lodged within a timely manner.

NOTIFICATION OF TRAINING AMENDMENT & CLEARANCE OF GREYHOUNDS

Trainers are reminded of their obligation to notify GRSA within 3 working days of a greyhound coming into or leaving their kennel (Rule 105(4)(i)).

This is a requirement for all greyhounds regardless of where bred.  We have had a number of trainers recently put in training amendments late the night prior to nominations closing at 9am the following day, this practice can lead to your nomination not being accepted or being unable to nominate online should any issues arise the following morning.

Trainers are also leaving it to the night before nominations close to have greyhounds “checked off”.  This practice can also lead to your nomination not being accepted or being unable to nominate online should any issues arise. It is therefore in the trainer’s best interest to have lodged with GRSA the training amendment and clearance of the greyhound a number of days prior to wishing to nominate the greyhound.  It is not GRSA’s responsibility to ensure that the paperwork is processed within ½ hour, which is the amount of time available to have it processed before nominations close at 9am.
