TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

We certainly have a big night of racing ahead of us with the running of the 2019 SA Distance Championship (race 6 ) and the 2019 SA Sprint Championship (race 8 ), the Rasmussen kennel can nearly provide the Trifecta in the Sprint. As usual all races are Trifecta and First Four events and after last week when there were some big price winners that’s where the value lies again tonight.

Race 1 - Swift Timing is racing well for the Murray camp and looks well-drawn again down in box 3, she can kick us off on a winning note. Streak Ahead should only improve after winning on debut here last week as did Fantastic Arlo for Barry Stewart. Box Up 2.3.5.8.

Race 2 - Veteran trainer Darrell Johnstone has a handy one in Resolute Lee, he won here 2 starts back in a handy 30.09 from box 2, he can be hit and miss on lid rise but should bounce back from his defeat here last start. Galactic Titan has terrific Mount Gambier form and is a must for our Trifecta. Box Up 1.2.5.7.

Race 3 - The Kenny Gill chaser Windmill Haze has hit a purple patch with 3 straight wins over 600m in recent starts, he loves a wide draw and should go very close again over the sprint. Windsome Money led them a merry dance here last Thursday and went on to win in a smart 29.82, he is well drawn again and can’t be left out on that gallop. Box Up 1.5.7.8.

Race 4 - This is a handy grade 5 event and I like the well-drawn Unmistakable out in box 8, he has terrific form over the 600m winning here in quick times and he drops back to the sprint tonight and will be right in the mix at Each Way odds. Come On Enzo carved out a slick 29.61 here 2 runs back, he can be moody on box rise but is very smart when able to lead. Box Up 1.4.5.8.

Race 5 - This is the 600m event of the night and it looks a wide open affair. Federal Agent is resuming from a long break and is sure to be well tried 1st up for his new kennel. Mayhem Breeze has mixed form with a win at Sandown 3 runs back in 34.50 but hasn’t beaten a runner home at his past 2, the change of venue could be a big help so he must be kept safe. Waterloo Monelli is very smart on his night and is boxed for a bold showing. Box Up 2.3.7.8.

Race 6 - The Final of the 2019 Distance Championship and the inside 3 look the main chances, Dyna Quota led throughout for a strong 43.40 win from this draw at her 1st look at the track she can only improve. Billy’s Bake is working towards a win at this venue, he has been placed at both starts and is in the astute kennel of Gerry O’Keeffe. Cairnlea Jet found trouble in a 4 dog field here last week and is more than capable if able to lead. Box Up 1.2.3.5.

Race 7 - I like one in this who has been racing open company and that is Gemtree Dynamo down in box 3 , he has been missing the kick of late but I expect him to improve big time in the lower grade. Go Brandi should set the early pace and continues to run into the placings. Slippers Time and Flyrite can fill the First Four. Box Up 1.3.4.8.

Race 8 - The Final of the 2019 Anniversary Cup and it carries a handy $10,000 to the winner, there certainly is a heap of early pace in this but I still can’t go past Cawbourne Swade who continues to win in quick times, he carved out a B.O.N 29.60 here last week in the heats and should be competing for the lead early with Victa Ashley and Shimando but his track sense should get him over the line. Kennel mate and the veteran of the field Honcho Monelli was a massive run here last week when he was checked early and went back to last before flying home to run 2nd, I would love to see him win tonight as he is only a run or 2 away from retiring. Azalea Monelli and Private Nangar can add some big value for the First Four. Box Up 2.3.7.8.

Race 9 - Let’s hope we are in front on the betting side of things as the last 2 races are very open, the Judi Hurley kennel can win here with Madam Onyx down in box 1, she won at Gawler 2 runs back in the B.O.D and found trouble last start over the short at the same venue, she can kick up early here and is normally very strong. Aston Groucho has handy short course form and could pinch this with an ounce of early luck so he is a must for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.7.8.

Race 10 - The Hurley kennel could go home on a race to race double as they have a strong chance with Saldana in this, she is very strong and has won here twice in her last 5 starts in quick times, the small field is a bonus and we will put her on top. Dashing Hope and Max Dream can run into the placings. Box Up 1.4.6.8.
