TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

Tonight we have 5 heats of the 2019 TAB Adelaide Cup which are races 3 to 7 on tonight’s programme, we will have all winners through to Friday weeks Cup final and the two fastest seconds. Hooked On Scotch was the winner of last week’s State of Origin Match Race series and has made his way through to the Cup with that win. We have a massive night of racing ahead of us with some very smart performers engaged; let’s hope we can finish well in front ourselves.

Race 1 - Superstar Chase can kick start the night for us, he was a very good 3rd here last week from this draw and should be able to lead and win. Kennel mate Cawbourne Clint is more than capable and is well boxed to run a cheeky race, add City Limit Sign for a bit of value for our trifecta. Box Up 2.4.7.8

Race 2 - Springvale Anna is working towards a win, she will be running on and only needs early luck to figure. Acka Jet can be hit and miss early but should figure in the finish. Box Up 1.2.5.7

Race 3 - This is the 1st of the heats and I am going with the local performer Fly For Fun, he has the pace to lead and with an ounce of luck can pinch this with his home track knowledge. Whiskey Riot is a well-travelled sprinter and with 13 wins from his 28 starts he is boxed for a bold showing. Another interstater He’s For Me won here last week from box 2 and can only be improved. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 4 - Heat 2 and the locally owned and bred flying sensation Sennachie is our top pick here, he returned here last week in the Match Race series and carved out a slick 29.21, he is a class act and should take a power of beating. Fantastic Yankee has been in top form, he is well drawn and should gain a clear run and run in to the money. Add Kisses For Cloda at big odds for the First Four. Box Up 1.4.7.8

Race 5 - Heat 3 and this is a wide open affair and the main chances look to be Spring Cuervo down in box 1, Seal The Deal and the well performed Road Travelled, all 3 are racing well and have their chances to secure a spot in next weeks final. Weblec King will be running on and could be the SMOKEY with luck. Box Up 1.2.3.7

Race 6 - Heat 4 and the Jeff Britton kennel have a smart one in Steinbrenner out in box 8, he has won 8 from 22 along with 6 placings, he carved out a 29.42 run at his 1st look here and should start the punters elect. Fernando’s Riot trialled here in 29.82 and is boxed for a bold showing and is very strong. Box Up 2.3.6.8

Race 7 - The last of the 5 heats, we will go with the locally owned Spring Bridge from the Thompson kennel, he is no stranger to the Angle Park circuit starting his career off here, he has solid Victorian form and appears the one to beat. Alicante Bouchet has terrific early pace and she is more than capable of winning here with a clear run. Chief Fernando is another with strong form and must be kept safe. Box Up 2.3.4.7

Race 8 - Mepunga Zeus is working back into form, he flashed home late to run a good 3rd here last start and is drawn for a bold showing. Come Home has been hit and miss of late, he is a smart performer when on song and is a must for our First Four, others to put in the mix are Yoda and Minnie Mac who’s at big odds. Box up 1.4.5.7

Race 9 - This is the distance affair of the night and we will go with Stitch Em Cilla, she has the early pace to lead and has a good record at this trip. Five Thirty will be the one running on strongly and will be right in the market, add in Dashing Mickey who is making his distance debut. Box Up 2.4.6.8

Race 10 - The Scott Feltus trained Ace Allen is close to a win, he has been placed over this trip at his past couple and with moderate beginners on his inside he should be able to lead and win. Whata Key has been racing below his best but is more than capable when on song. More Rum Bateman and Lose Your Blues for the minors. Box Up 2.4.6.8

Race 11 - Tatachilla is the inform runner, he has won 3 of his last 5 including a 29.89 win from this draw over Power Burner, he is drawn to win again. Canya Queen resumed with a handy 3rd and ran home nicely last start, she is a must for our trifecta along with Hot Spartan who can fill a place. Box up 1.2.4.5

Race 12 - Victa Caleb has good short course form, he looks the likely leader and should be able to pinch this. Tornado Alley was a good even effort here last week and is drawn to run a cheeky race again. Connor Allen and Resolute Lee for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.7.8

GRADING CHANGES FROM GRADING REVIEW PANEL HAVE STARTED

The main change from the GRP was that when a greyhound comes to SA and has won less than 5 races (1-4 wins) then it will be considered a Grade 6 even if it has won Grade 5 races (Metropolitan Grade 5 races (460m – 590m) in their State, however, this will affect Grade 6).

There will be no retrospective grading for greyhounds already in SA with a starting date of the 9th September.

MOUNT GAMBIER TIME GRADING TO BE A MIX OF WINS FROM OCTOBER

After a request from the Mt Gambier GRC to change the format of their Time Grading events, GRSA has approved the change for their Thursday meetings from specific grades to a mix of race wins.

From their meeting on Thursday, 3rd October and all other Time Graded meetings races will be Maidens, 1-4 wins and 5+ wins which will change from Maiden, Grade 6 and Grade 5.

Races will still be Non Penalty, with normal Time Graded prizemoney.

For Middle Distance (600m) and Distance (732m) racing, the GRSA Grader (using discretion), may choose to construct a field over these distances without regard for the number of wins of the greyhounds nominated, if in the opinion of the Grader the spread of Time Ratings warrants the running of that race.

NEW TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP FORM INCLUDES PROOF OF PURCHASE

Participants are advised that as from 1st September, 2019 a new Transfer of Ownership Form is to be completed if wanting to seek grading exemptions.

The new Form has a Proof of Purchase section, this requires purchasers to lodge documentation confirming the purchase of the greyhound or if no documentation is available then it is a requirement for the Statutory Declaration to be completed.  If a Transfer of Ownership Form is lodged without the completion of this section then NO grading exemptions will be applied to the greyhound.  The form is available on our website.
