TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

How good is tonight’s programme with 3 fantastic heats over the 600m for the Shane McQueen which are races 4, 5 & 6 and a terrific Group 3 Howard Ashton final, which is race 8 over the sprint. Add to that a MASSIVE 12 events. Don’t forget all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - We can kick off on a huge night of racing with a winner with the Tony Rasmussen trained Bean Monelli down in box 2, he should be able to kick up early from the rails and is very strong. Fox Gambler can run a cheeky race and can’t be overlooked. Box Up 1.2.4.5.

Race 2 - This appears a wide-open affair with several chances who are all awkwardly drawn, Phil De Thunder and Dyna Quire both should be in the mix but will need luck early. Striking Jewel tends to get off the track but is very strong. Box Up 1.3.4.7.

Race 3 - Colin Swain has a handy one in Fantastic Joey, he can be hit and miss on box rise and with an ounce of luck early should be able to possie up and go on and win. Blessed In Black has terrific short course form and is a chance at each way odds. Add Ambers Wish and Ultimate Eagle for the minors. Box Up 1.3.4.5.

Race 4 - This is the first of the 600m heats and it’s very hard to go past the inform Ashom Monellli in box 3, he has won 4 of his past 5 here including a smart 34.89 win over this trip, Paraphernalia and Eli Starlight for the minors. Box Up 1.3.4.6.

Race 5 - Jeebus Bird was very impressive when winning over this trip last week in a slick 34.92 from box 8, he will be right in the mix again from box 2. On Fire is my tip as he should be able to cross them early with moderate beginners on his inside and will be very hard to beat on the lure. Nangar Bear can fill the placings. Box Up 1.2.3.6.

Race 6 - Nations should start the punters elect on his recent form having won 3 from his past 5, he has excellent middle-distance form in N.S.W and here and will be hard to beat. Cairnlea Jet can’t be left out and is more than capable of causing an upset, he found a heap of trouble here last start and is a big chance for mine. Box Up 1.2.4.7.

Race 7 - This certainly is a quality open event and we will go with Honcho Monelli in box 5, he was a last start winner here flying home to win in a BON 29.65 and with 8 wins from his 13 starts here he looks the measuring stick. Hot Marlow can lead again and appears a threat. Add Hukanui who is all class with early luck. Box Up 2.3.5.7.

Race 8 - The Final of the 2018 Howard Ashton over the sprint and with $25.000 to winner on offer it’s a terrific event to win. Up Time Girl has been racing well of late and from her wide draw should take beating. Galactic Panther led everywhere bar the post and we have to put him in our First Four. Breemelia Swift is our value runner as she is very quick early and if there is trouble she is a chance of pinching this at big odds. Box Up 3.5.7.8.

Race 9 - Winning form is good form and the two in this that have been on song are Master Chaos and Panhandle Slim, they have won 8 between them in their last 10 starts. Destini Mermaid wins are few and far between but she is very honest and can work home into the placings. Box Up 2.3.6.8.

Race 10 - Veteran trainer Laurence Cahalan has another handy one in Mepunga Gal, she has won 3 of her 4 starts since crossing the border and should go very close again. Agent Thirteen led all the way here last start for a 29.92 win and should be the main danger. Add Crazy Again and Wanchai Express for the First Four. Box Up 1.5.7.8.

Race 11 - The Ben Rawlings kennel looks to have a strong chance in this with Fantastic Chief, he has won his past 2 at Gawler and has a good record at this venue so we will put him on top. Dynamo Jezz was a last start winner here in good time and will be hard to toss from the rails draw. Box Up 1.3.6.8.

Race 12 - Its always good to go home on a winner but this is very tough so it makes for a terrific Trifecta and First Four event. Hot Athena is well drawn and won here 3 runs back from the draw. Max Jake is a run on type and is a chance of pinching a place while Menzali is my top pick and is a newcomer from Victoria with handy form. Box Up 1.4.5.7.

CHANGES TO 6 MONTH TRIAL POLICY FROM JUNE 1

GRSA Stewards have recently undertaken a benchmarking exercise with other states around field sizes for greyhounds looking to return to racing after not competing for more than six (6) months.

The Stewards view is the spirit of the rule about unraced greyhound for more than six (6) months is to ensure the greyhound is fit to race.

In an effort to assist participants, the GRSA Trial Policy will be amended, to allow greyhounds which have not raced for more than six (6) months to be able to complete a satisfactory trial as a solo trial.  This change will take effect as of 1 June 2018. The provisions of GAR72 and GAR77A still apply.

MOUNT GAMBIER RUNNING ADDITIONAL FORTNIGHTLY THURSDAY MEETING

The Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club is running an additional fortnightly Thursday afternoon race meeting over the coming months.

The addition of these meetings follows consultation between the Club and GRSA on servicing local participants during the temporary closure of the Warrnambool Greyhound Club for refurbishments from May to August. With the pool of nominations for Mount Gambier coming from the South East region of SA and from across the border in country Victoria, it is believed that an extra meeting per fortnight will assist participation in the region. The change will result in Mount Gambier racing on a two week cycle of Friday/Sunday in the first week and then Thursday/Sunday in the second week.
GRSA have released extra dates in the first instance in late May, June and July to establish support, with the intent to add additional meetings in August whilst the Warrnambool works take place (estimated at 4 months). GRSA thanks the support of the Mt Gambier GRC, Radio TAB, staff and Sky Racing for their support for these extra meetings.
Date changes are listed below –
Add: Mount Gambier – Thursday 7th June 2018  (TAB) Day (Time Graded by Groups)
Add: Mount Gambier – Thursday 21st June 2018  (TAB) Day (Time Graded by Groups)
Add: Mount Gambier – Thursday 5th July 2018  (TAB) Day
Add: Mount Gambier – Thursday 19th July 2018  (TAB) Day

KURT DONSBERG – ONCOURSE RACE NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHER

Kurt will continue as normal with Thursdays and also Wednesdays based on his availability.

On those days/nights of racing when Kurt is not oncourse GRSA will continue to allow participants to take their own presentation photos and if required, gain access to the presentation area. Please just liaise with the Stewards on the day for access.

ACCELL THERAPY MAT NOW AVAILABLE AT ANGLE PARK

The mat is now available in the foyer area of the Angle Park building.

It is recommended that a greyhound derives benefit with a 15 to 20 minute session and is generally for recovery from racing or injury. It will be available during normal office hours to be used (greyhounds racing on that day excluded). Please ask the Racing Admin staff if you wish to use the mat. GRSA is working towards making this available also during trial sessions.
