TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

There looks to be highlights a plenty throughout a big night of racing here at Headquarters, we have a massive 12 events and on paper we should have a good night on the punt. As always, all races are Trifecta and First Four and that is where the value has been in recent weeks.

Race 1 - Red Rock is a very smart pup, he has won his past 2 here in good fashion and should be hard to beat again from the inside draw. Unique Edition won from this draw 2 runs back and is the big danger. Box Up 1.2.3.6.

Race 2 - With only the 4 runners it gives Emmy Gray a big chance, she is a speedy type who might be able to pinch this. Invictus Nina charged home to run 2nd here last start and will be doing the same again tonight - Box Up 2.4.7.8.

Race 3 - Premier Double is racing very well along with Vermouth who looks hard to beat. Wrackmere for the minors. Box Up 1.2.3.5.

Race 4 - Honcho Monelli flew late after early trouble to run 2nd here last week and is boxed to break through here tonight, he should be more than handy into the back and win. Harbormaster is racing well and is boxed to run into the placings. Box Up 1.2.7.8.

Race 5 - The Murray kennel has been snagging a few winners lately and they can do the same again with Spring Double down in box 1, he won over the short at Gawler last start and won here 3 starts back in 30.26. Go Brandi is very quick early and is my roughie of the night, she looks the leader and is a chance of pinching this with luck. Box Up 1.3.4.5.

Race 6 - Croydon Boys will be charging late and won well at Murray Bridge last start in 30.06 from a wide draw he is a huge threat. Add Stack The Aces and Born Billy for the Trifecta. Box Up 1.4.5.7

Race 7 - There certainly are a few chances in this so it makes for a terrific First Four event. Dyna Maple has the form on the board including a last start win here in 30.24, she should go very close again on recent efforts. Dynamo Jezz is drawn to run into the placings as is Mepunga Gal. Box Up 1.2.5.7.

Race 8 - The inside 3 here look the main chances, I will go with Shimando who is well proven in this grade. Long Gully Gus has been in the money in 10 of his 13 runs here and has won his past 3 all in good fashion, Rhynstone Teddy hasn’t missed a cheque in his last 4 runs and will be working home late, Box Up 1.2.3.7.

Race 9 - This is the 1st of the 600m and its very hard to go past Nations who is flying at the moment, he won over this trip 2 runs back in a slick 34.84 by a massive 10 lengths and backed it up with a win over the 731m last week, we will put him on top but he will be skinny odds. Motown Kenny and Spring Spinner for the placings. Box Up 1.2.6.8

Race 10 - The Murray kennel can get a double for the night if Private Nangar continues his recent form, he won here last start from box 3 in a more than handy 30.02 and is drawn for a bold showing again. Zinnia Monelli will be doing her best work late as will Stitch Em’ Rosey. Box Up 1.5.6.8

Race 11 - With only the 4 runners Cairnlea Jet should bounce back into the winner circle, he is a class act on his night and with 8 wins from his 13 starts over the trip looks the measuring stick. Ethics and Phils Green for the minors. 1 from 3 and 5. 7

Race 12 - On a huge night of racing its always good if we can leave on a winning note and we can do that with Lektra Theory out in box 6, he can be hit and miss early but is very strong late and the extra distance should be a huge benefit tonight. Max Dream and Menzies can run into the placings. Box Up 2.4.6.8.

MURRAY BRIDGE GRAND OPENING ON SUNDAY, 3RD FEBRUARY

It will be a huge event this coming Sunday (February 3) where Racing Minister, Corey Wingard, will be on-site at Murray Bridge to officially open our new dual track venue.  In conjunction with those proceedings, the interior of the main patron facility will be largely roped off for the duration of that race meeting.

Trainers and patrons will still be able to access the internal bar, wagering and toilet facilities. There will be plenty going on outside the venue with a marquee with dining tables and chairs as well as separate tables in front of the patron facility, food and beverage vans, additional wagering services at the base of the tower; and face painting and a computer game van will be available for children.

All registered participants will be offered a free meal from the BBQ and coffee.  Tokens will be made available to all registered participants on presentation of their participant card to GRSA’s Chris Luong who will be setup at the kennel-house at the start of the race meeting.

Racing will also be huge with three finals worth a combined $14,000 and features high quality chasers like Eye Got It, Steel, Benaud and Shimando in the 395m Bridge To Opportunity Cup (Race 3). In the Murray Bridge Community Club Cup over the 530m (Race 5) Sarina Monelli, Love Made Me, Croydon Boys and Gemtree Dynamo look top chances while the SA Derby winner from last year Nervous An Weird from Victoria takes on Fantastic Chief, Shima Mart and Master Chaos in the 455m Rural City of Murray Bridge Cup (Race 7).

Sky Racing will be conducting a live Outside Broadcast from the site and a second camera will be present to capture interviews for the Catching Pen.

SA FLAVOUR FOR TEMLEE, ROOKIE REBEL AND ZOOM TOP INVITEES

Over 50 of the very best chasers have been invited to compete in three Group 1 invitationals at The Meadows – including the Temlee (525m), Rookie Rebel (600m) and Zoom Top (725m) on February 16  including two top South Australians.

Congratulations to both Honcho Monelli for Tony Rasmussen and Sennachie who has recently been sent to the kennels of Steve White from Kirin Corby for being initially invited to the Temlee. It’s a high quality list so to have them make it, it is a great achievement. Hopefully the likes of SA Sprint winner Shima Breeze, Fabwik, Nations and Cairnlea Jet can push their case in the coming weeks for an invite to the Group 1 events. The 16th of February kicks off the three-week TAB Australian Cup Carnival, with a total of over $1.3 million dollars in prize money up for grabs.

A - APRIL (26th April  Race 8 No 2) – Cairnlea Jet

The Run of the Month for April was Cairnlea Jet for trainer Petar Jovanovic for his performance at Angle Park on Thursday, 26th April in the Anniversary Cup final. Cairnlea Jet was taking on the best sprinters in the State and ran a super race. From box 2 he was able to position just off the pace in second spot before exploding to the front down the back straight. From there he was powerful to the line running a super 29.45 for the 515m journey in winning by 2 lengths against a very strong field. His splits were 4.45, 16.82 with a run home of 12.63.

B - JULY (1st July  Race 7 No 8) – Rockoon

The Run of the Month for July was Rockoon for Tracie Price at Mt Gambier on 1st July over the 512m in an Open event where he ran 29.28 setting a new track record! Beginning from box 8 Rockoon jumped well, swooping around the first bend to find himself in a great position near the front of the pack before he accelerated down the back straight leaving his rivals in his wake and going on to win by 8.5 lengths breaking the previous track record by an impressive 2 lengths

C - AUGUST (2nd August  Race 5 No 7) – Honcho Monelli

The Run of the Month for August was the Tony Rasmussen trained Honcho Monelli for his brilliant performance at Angle Park on Thursday 2nd August. He started a warm favourite in a heat of the National Sprint State series and he didn’t disappoint his fans. Beginning fairly from box 7 he raced midfield before making his customary move down the back straight where he swooped upon the leaders in a blink of an eye. He raced away in the run home to win by an ever increasing 8.75 lengths in a sizzling 29.42 for the 515m journey. His splits were 4.54 and 16.86 with a powerful run home of 12.56.

D - NOVEMBER (22nd November Race 2 No 2) – Sennachie

The Run of the Month for November was in a Maiden event by a greyhound having its first start in a race.
