TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

The racing tonight at headquarters certainly is first class we have the final of the 2019 Howard Ashton, which is Race 8 on the programme and has a $25,000 to the winner cheque. We also have 3 terrific heats of the Shane McQueen over the 600m which are races 4 through to 6, as always all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - We can kick start the night with an early winner in the pacey Sweet Ella, she won here last start in a slick 29.88 leading throughout, she should be able to do so again with moderate beginners either side. Fantastic Yankee will only improve on his 3rd here on his debut. Box Up 2.4.5.8.

Race 2 - Oakvale Thrill will find this a lot easier than her past 2 starts, she is a little hit and miss on box rise but should go very close. Main Exit is definitely the main danger along with Classy Blaze. Box Up 1.2.4.8.

Race 3 - The Rawlings kennel looks to have another handy type with Better Dream, he won here on debut in a more than handy 29.75 and showed terrific box speed, he looks one of the better bets of the night. Fly For Fun and Huey Lee for the minors. Box Up 1.2.4.8.

Race 4 - First of the Shane McQueen heats and it’s very hard to go past the inform Saldana in the Judi Hurley kennel, she has won 3 of her past 4 here and is very strong. Master Chaos is the danger as he has continued to impress with 3 strong wins here all in good times. Add Private Nangar who will be working home strongly. Box Up 2.4.5.8.

Race 5 - Waterloo Monelli loves this trip as he has won 4 of 5 over the 600m, he is racing well and will be the measuring stick once again. Surfing Dyno is well drawn and can run a cheeky race along with Sale Graze Bindi who can handle the wide draw. Box Up 1.2.5.8

Race 6 - The Murray kennel has been in form of late and they have a huge chance with Love Made Me in this, she has won 3 of her past 5 and should be right on the pace early and prove hard to beat. Come Home wasn’t disgraced when 4th here last start behind Master Chaos and can run a cheeky race once again. Box Up 1.2.5.8.

Race 7 - This is a wide open affair so we will stick with Yoda who has the perfect draw of one, he should be able to kick up early and hold a handy position and prove too strong in the run home. Spring Sniper has been racing well at Murray Bridge and hasn’t missed a cheque in his last 5 runs. Add in Gemtree Dynamo who will be running on late. Box Up 1.4.5.7.

Race 8 - This is the 2019 Howard Ashton Final and as mentioned earlier it has a cracking $25,000 to the winner cheque, the flying Querencia should start a very short price favourite as he has 2 personal bests here in 29.34 and 29.30 in recent weeks, he is all class and only bad luck could beat him. Rock It Fernando has the rails and he should be running on again to pinch a place. Emerley Fabbro added a heap of value to our First Four and Trifecta last week and can do the same again from his draw of 3. Oakvale Beauty is a youngster who will run through grades and can fill a place despite the poor draw. Box Up 1.3.4.5

Race 9 - Lose Your Blues has been very versatile of late racing over the 600m and 731m now she drops back to the sprint and appears a very good chance, she is very strong and can finish in the mix. Stitch ‘Em Milli will find this a lot easier than her past couple and is the big danger. Box Up 1.2.4.8.

Race 10 - Victa Ashley has won 2 of his past 3 both in quick times he has the early pace to lead and is our top pick. Jazzy Footluce has been racing well and is well drawn. Box Up 5.7.8.9.

Race 11 - Senni Max can send us home on a winning note, he has won his past 2 over the short at Murray Bridge and Gawler in good fashion and looks a very good chance from the wide draw. Spring Glass can be hit and miss on box rise she will be running on late and can pinch a place along with Hot Zorro who has been improving evert start. Box Up 1.2.7.8.

MURRAY BRIDGE STRAIGHT TRACK DELAYED

GRSA advised that the Murray Bridge Straight Track has been delayed with the introduction of drop in boxes required for the 300m start rather than the chute option.

To allow time for this the Picnic Meeting (Non Tab) on Wednesday 5th June will not be conducted and will be replaced by the normal TAB Murray Bridge One Turn meeting. Until further notice the fortnightly Murray Bridge Wednesday will be conducted on the One Turn track.
• Nominations for this meeting close tomorrow (Friday 31/5) at 9am.
GRSA advise that trialling during this will be on Tuesday night and Friday morning.

MURRAY BRIDGE SHOWGROUNDS DEMOLITION UNDERWAY

GRSA advises that demolition works on the track and facilities at the old Murray Bridge Showgrounds site are underway.

This work involves the removal of the clubhouse and judges tower, as well as the starting boxes, track fencing, lure rail, catching pen and lure motor shed.

Participants will no longer be able to use the Showgrounds site to free gallop their greyhounds.
GRSA will discuss with the Club and maintenance staff the possibility of using the new straight track for free galloping outside of the normal racing and trialling schedule. There is also a long term objective to have a dedicated slipping track on the Murray Bridge site.

The exit from the Showgrounds site was a requirement of the Murray Bridge Council, as part of the purchase agreement for the parcel of land where GRSA have built the new greyhound racing facility.

MOUNT GAMBIER TO RACE EVERY THURSDAY AND SUNDAY

Mount Gambier will now race every Thursday from 2nd May with the introduction of the G-SIX racing.

As a result of this they will now race twice a week during the 3 month trial period on Thursdays and Sundays.

G-SIX RACING

May 2 kicked off G-SIX racing for a 3 month trial with Angle Park, Gawler and Mount Gambier all racing under these conditions.

G-SIX offers more racing at more meetings, cleaner racing with less interference as there are only 6 greyhounds per event, Stakemoney increases to owners and trainers worth more than $1,000,000 and a consistent weekly schedule at our venues.

There will be some exceptions to the G-SIX for feature races with specific feature events not under the G-SIX conditions, like the Group 3 Howard Ashton for example.

Participants are encouraged to check the racing calendar for G-SIX events and scheduling and ensure they are aware of the conditions during the 3 month trial.
