TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

Well last week we returned to the right side of the ledger with a few winners at handy prices, with a MASSIVE 12 event programme tonight let’s hope we can do the same. The highlight of tonight is a very strong open event which is race 8 and we see the return of Cairnlea Kenny who was a very unlucky 3rd in last weeks National Sprint Final in Melbourne. Add to that a high Quality 600m metre event which is race 11. Don’t forget all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - We kick off with a wide-open affair, I like the Sharyn Gray trained Fox Gambler at each way odds, he has good early pace and should be prominent throughout from the rails draw. Hopes Beau and Alpha Aion are more than capable with early luck. Box Up 1.2.5.8.

Race 2 - With only the 4 runners we will have to pick the Trifecta in order, we will go with Hilltop Tales on top as she will be suited by the small field the other 3 all will be running on. 6.4.1.8 in order.

Race 3 - The Tracie Price kennel can nearly run the Quinella in this with Cee Me Turbo and Lika Missile, both have been racing well down at Mount Gambier and are making their city debut. Crazy Again can improve from a favourable draw so is a must for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.6.7.

Race 4 - This is the Distance affair of the night and the Troy Murray trained Spring Spinner has good form over the 600m with 2 wins on the trot; he steps up over the journey in this and should be in it for a long way. San Tan Sam can run his usual honest race as can Springvale Cooke who is resuming. Box Up 1.2.4.6.

Race 5 - Waterloo Kate is boxed to perfection here down on the rails, she flew home late to pinch a place here last start behind Flying Ellen and should be the measuring stick in this. Dashing Hope can be hit and miss on box rise but if she steps is more than capable of pinching this so she is a must for our Trifecta. Box Up 1.2.4.7.

Race 6 - Abuzz flew the lids here last week and carved out a slick 29.67 gallop beating Marco Lee by nearly 3 lengths, he looks the leader again so we will make him our top pick. Menzali continues to collect a cheque and hasn’t missed a place in his last 5 runs at this venue. Add Brilliant Bails at big odds for the First Four. Box Up 1.3.4.8.

Race 7 - This is the most wide-open affair of the night with at least 5 chances, Croydon Boys was an eye catching run here last start when he flew home for 2nd in 30.07, he is only a moderate beginner but we will make him our best each way bet of the night. Victor Dora and Nut Allergy are more than capable of running strong races as can the pacey Harbormaster. Box Up 1.4.5.7.

Race 8 - As mentioned earlier the Petar Jovanovic trained Cairnlea Kenny was a huge run in the Sprint Final when running 3rd behind West On Augie at Sandown last Friday Night, he was checked early from box 1 and still was only beaten buy just over 1.5L in 29.43, he is our top pick in this. Fabwik keeps on winning in quick times here; she has put together 5 wins in a row all in the B.O.N and is the obvious danger. Box up 2.3.4.5.

Race 9 - The class runner in this is definitely the Tony Rasmussen iron dog Hukanui, he drops right back in grade tonight and should appreciate the small field so we will put him on top. Big Col Prosser is racing well and can pinch a place as can Zambora Beau who has handy short course form. 4 from 1.2.7. boxed.

Race 10 - The Victorian visitor in Chile Allen looks to have a strong chance in this, she has 5 wins and 3 placings from just 18 starts and with recent wins at Horsham in quick times and a win here last month should prove very hard to beat. Love Made Me has won 4 of her past 5 and is the big danger. Box Up 1.3.6.7.

Race 11 - This is the 600m event of the night with several strong chances, Stack The Aces has been in fine form and has a handy record here over this trip. Federal Agent has strong Victorian form and should start the punters elect. I like Jeebus Bird who resumed last week and was unplaced at The Meadows, he will only be improved by the run and is very smart when on song. Box Up 1.2.4.6.

Race 12 - The final event on a huge programme and this is a toughie to pick so we will put all the energy in trying to snare the First Four. Lilly An Page is very smart but her box manners can be tardy, we will put her in the top 4. Smart Knocka has strong Mount Gambier form and has won here in the past. Spider Regis and Brother Griff to round out our top Four. Box Up 2.3.4.8.

The series is in support of those greyhounds affected by the change to the GCA Age Restricted Classics change a few years ago.  The series has drawn together some exciting chasers with the likes of Waterloo Kate, Dyna Quail, Madam Onyx and Breemelia Swift doing battle in the Queens and Abuzz, Menzali, Cairnlea Jet and Victorian visitor Apex Within contesting the Kings.

With two heats the first four from each heat will qualify for next week’s final. The box draw will be conducted on track after the running of Race 8 tonight.

AGRC/GRSA GREYHOUND AUCTION IN OCTOBER – NOMINATION FORMS RELEASED

Auction Nomination forms have been released.

The Adelaide Greyhound Racing Club in conjunction with Greyhound Racing SA will again conduct a Greyhound Auction this year in October, however, there will be some significant changes to the conditions.  The most notable will be NO race attached to the Auction Series for puppies, however, the Auction has been opened up to not only include pups but Ready for Racing greyhounds and Brood Bitches.

Below are the details regarding the series -
Greyhound Auction Date – Sunday, 21st October

Categories for Auction–
Pups – 4 months to 11 months (whelping date – born 1st October 2017 to 30th June 2018)

Ready for Racing – 12 months to 19 months (if named and raced must trial in some way)
20 months or older (must solo trial over 274m, 388m or 515m. Handslip optional)
Trials to be conducted on Monday night or Wednesday Day at race meeting to be filmed the week prior to the Auction. Footage to be available on the GRSA website prior to Auction. Prefer all greyhounds to trial on the same night

Brood Bitch -  Must have a Pink Card or apply for a Pink Card at nomination time to be approved prior to the Auction date.
Nomination Fees  - All greyhounds 12 months and older will be $50 nomination fee, Puppies 4 months to 11 months will be $50 for the first pup for each vendor from that litter and then $20 per pup for each other pup from that litter. If another vendor is nominating it will be $50 even if from a litter already nominated.
Commission - The commission will be 7.5% of sale price. The nomination fee will be deducted from the commission.  For example a ready to race dog sold for $2,000 will have a commission of $150, but only $100 will be deducted from sale proceeds as $50 already collected as part of nomination fee.
Swabbing – It will be the intention of the Integrity staff to swab all greyhounds that trial in public for the Auction.
Catalogue – Whatever the vendor puts on their nomination form is what will be published in the catalogue. It is crucial that vendors give sufficient information to ensure the best chances of sale.

Nomination closing times –Friday, 7th September for the Pups and Friday, 14th September for 12 months and above.

STATE OF ORIGIN MATCH RACE SERIES IN LATE SEPTEMBER

GRSA has introduced an exciting new feature “State of Origin” Match Race series in a lead up to the Group 1 Adelaide Cup on Thursday, 29th September where 4 greyhounds from SA will take on 4 greyhounds from Victoria in one on one racing.

CONDITIONS OF THE SERIES:
The State of Origin Match Race series between South Australia and Victoria will be held on Thursday, 27th September this year, the week before the Adelaide Cup heats.
Eligibility as to who represents South Australia or Victoria would be based around the Nationals conditions. Greyhounds would need to be trained in either State 76 days out of the last 150 prior to the close of nominations.

GRSA will call for nominations which will close on Friday morning, 23rd September at 9am for the State of Origin Match Race series. The best four greyhounds nominated from SA and Victoria will be selected by the GRSA grader. The Grader will use whatever information he has available to select those greyhounds. The Graders decision will be final. Those greyhounds not selected from Interstate will be given the opportunity to solo trial or race in another event on the night. Reserves will be declared with one from SA and one from Victoria depending on nominations to replace the States representative if scratched. For example the SA reserve will only replace an SA scratching.

The Grader will rate the four greyhounds from each State in order from 1 to 4 with 1 being the highest rated greyhound. The head to head matches will be decided by the two 1 rated greyhounds competing against each other and then it will be 2 v 2, 3 v 3 and 4 v 4. Prizemoney for each individual match will also reflect 1 to 4 with the 1 rated greyhounds receiving the most amount of money. However the overall winner will still be determined based around the times the greyhounds run so all greyhounds have that opportunity.

PRIZEMONEY:
Winners of match races –
1 v 1 – Winner $3,750
2 v 2 –  Winner $3,500
3 v 3 –  Winner $3,250
4 v 4 –  Winner $3,000
Overall State of Origin winner (based on overall times) $5,000, second $2,500, third $1,000
