Angle Park Preview - Thursday 2nd January 2014
TELLING THE TAIL By The Shadow
Well it’s a New Year and we need to kick it off on the front foot. It looks a fairly even programme so we should get some value tonight.
Race 1 and Pandora Kist is back in grade and with an ounce of luck early will be hard to beat. There are several chances for the trifecta. Box up 1.2.4.5
Race 2 and Sidney’s Shadow has started to prove costly of late but is worth another chance here. She is very smart when on the bunny. Dakota La Flash has the good draw and will figure right in the finish. Box Up 1.2.3.5
Race 3 and the inside brigade look the main hopes. I like Lylas in the red, he looks amongst the best bets of the night. Box Up 1.2.3.4.
Race 4 and Dream Choice has been freshened and is dropping back to the sprint and will run a cheeky race. Springvale Cool should start the punters elect and has a vacant box on her inside. Box Up 2.3.6.7.
The fifth and we will need an ounce of luck early with Cosmic Way, but he will be the one running on late. Victa Sam and the pacey Well Quoted can pinch a place. Box Up 1.5.7.8.
Race 6 and this is a tough affair. Penny Allen has early pace but has been run down at her past couple. Nicholas Jack has returned from a stint in the Apple Isle and will give this a shake. Box Up 1.2.6.7.
Race 7 and Uncles Miss will need to lead here from box 4. She can be hit and miss on box rise. I like the inside four for the trifecta. Box up 1.2.3.4.
Race 8 now this is a good race with several chances. Bogie Prince is racing well and from the draw can hold the lead. Fire Tyson is always around the mark. The outside brigade all have chances and will be carving across. Box Up 1.2.3.6
Race 9 and the distance affair is a tough one. I have gone with Fender for Lauren Harris. It is only a small field so he could pinch this. Box Up 2.4.5.8
The Tenth and Doona Bale can run a cheeky race out in Box 8 for Tony Rasmussen. She can carve up early from the wide draw. The inside two both have big chances and is a must for the trifecta. Box up 1.2.4.8.
The last and this is wide open so I have gone with early pace. Mr Leonardo, he has been racing over the short and looks well drawn. Vintage Star and Handsome Blue will be making good ground. Box up 1.2.4.5.

LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS
SA SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP STARTS NEXT WEEK
Owners & Trainers are reminded of the domiciliary clause on the SA Sprint Championship coming up next week. To be eligible a greyhound must have been domiciled in SA for a period of not less than 76 days out of the 150 days immediately prior to the time fixed for the finalising of nominations and drawing of fields. (Nationals policy adopted)
This date going back 76 days is 23rd October as nominations close on Monday 6th January 2013.
The $4,265 heats are scheduled to be run next week on Thursday 9th January, with the Final to be run on Thursday 16th January. Total prizemoney for the listed final will be $22,000, with the winner’s share of $15,000.
Nominations close on Monday 6th January 2013 at 9.00am with GRSA.
The other main feature in January will be the running of the John Gray Feature for Grade 5 greyhounds over the 515m. This race is always well patronaged and many outstanding greyhounds have won this event and gone on to be outstanding types including Kalden Mayhem who won in 2011 and Grainne O’Malley last year.
The heats will be run on SA Sprint Final night on Thursday 16th January which should be a thrilling nights racing with the John Gray Final worth an outstanding $6,875 run on 23rd January.
GAWLER GOLDEN MAIDEN IN JANUARY
The $1,125 heats of the Golden Maiden will be run on Tuesday 21st January back over the 531m journey this year. The $2,550 final will be run the week later on Tuesday 28th January.
Nominations for the series close at 9.00am with GRSA on Thursday 16th January.
SEPARATION OF GAWLER TO START AT END OF JANUARY
The separation of Gawler will now be introduced towards the end of January. GRSA and WA had been working at getting the Gawler meetings separated into Provincial 1 and Provincial 2 however the data flow to NSW for formguides and race books and information to the National Data Repository has not been completed. With the Christmas break in these States work will not recommence until the middle of this month.
With the introduction of separate grading at Gawler the Grade 6 rules were considered for change via the Grading Review Panel which was published in last months kennel capers. With most of separate grading details finalized it was discovered that the Grade 6 greyhounds were going to be much worse of than before with no more “beat the grader” and a high number of greyhounds needing to be withdrawn from engagements due to being ineligible if they won. The Grading Review Panel by email reconsidered this information and believes the fairest change to Grade 6 with the separation of Gawler was to allow the two more wins at Gawler for SA Bred greyhounds at the other Gawler track and 1 more win for Non SA Bred making a maximum of 4. There will be more specific details published in this months kennel capers and I want to thank the Grading Review Panel for their correspondence.
FIXED ODDS AT ANGLE PARK ON MONDAYS AND THURSDAYS
Tattsbet offer a Fixed Odds market on ALL races at Angle Park on Monday night and Thursday night. This started two months ago and the response has been excellent providing another betting option for our punters especially those betting offcourse.
TREATMENT BOOKS
With the new rules regarding Treatment Books being introduced from the 1st January it is recommended that all trainers keep a documented history of all treatments for each of their greyhounds as per the new rules. GRSA has been in the process of assisting trainers with specific treatment books however they are still being finalised and should be available early in the new year.
2014 ADELAIDE GREYHOUND AUCTION
The Adelaide Greyhound Racing Club (AGRC) in conjunction with GRSA, will once again conduct the Adelaide Greyhound Auction in 2014.

ADELAIDE CUP TO RUN ON FRIDAY NIGHT IN 2014
As announced in the Sunday Mail last weekend the Group 1 Adelaide Cup in 2014 will be run on a Friday night for the first time in the races history. The opportunity came out of the blue, with Greyhound Racing Victoria first approaching GRSA about swapping our Thursday night on Boxing Day to allow the Group 1 Sale Cup, typically in a twilight timeslot, to be run in conjunction with the Sandown Park meeting at night.
As previously advertised we moved Boxing Day to a twilight meeting and requested a Friday night meeting from GRVIC in return. The chance to run our Group 1 on a Friday night was too good an opportunity for us pass up so this year the Adelaide Cup Final will be held on Friday, October 10, it is likely the heats will be on the Thursday night, October 2.
We expect the move will allow more people to attend reaching a larger market and create a bigger atmosphere at Angle Park while also boosting turnover in the lucrative timeslot. We would also continue to work with other States in finding opportunities to improve the profile of racing in South Australia.
