PAWFECT PREVIEW

by The Boy from the Bush

Its Easter Cup final night tonight at headquarters and what a race it promises to be, it is over the 600m and is race 8 on the card however there is plenty of other good racing on the program so hopefully we can find enough winners to pay for all the Easter Eggs we are going to eat on the weekend.

Race 1 – This is a wide open affair with plenty of quality. We will go with Nangar Bear at good eachway odds in box 6 as our top pick. He has mixed his form lately however he did win in 29.74 last month and trialled impressively last week. It’s a raffle for the minors but Purpose Driven and Paua To Kapau are drawn nicely. Box Up 1.2.3.6.

Race 2 – It should be a race between the 7 and the 8. Dyna Quire trained by Tony Rasmussen and Dyna Quail trained by Lisa Rasmussen have the form on the board and look the likely two. I’m leaning towards the 7, Dyna Quire who should be able to race more forward and should get the chocolates. Dyna Quail is the big danger with Springvale Alysa hopefully finding a bit of luck early for the minors. Box Up 2.6.7.8.

Race 3 – This looks a really talented Juvenile race with the three “Cairnlea” dogs having a big say in the outcome. They have drawn 1,2 & 3 but picking the right one is the challenge. We’ll go with Cairnlea Strider who loves the rails from Cairnlea Jet who should not be far away. The undefeated Cairnlea Buster for third. Box Up 1.2.3.6.

Race 4 - This looks a race for Springvale Hope out in box 8. She has drawn well, should lead and looks well placed. Grand Chaos won his Maiden well last start and looks to have potential while Rhystone Hawk has drawn well and was an improved effort last start. Box Up 1.4.7.8.

Race 5 – This is the first race of the Quadrella and what a race it is. They will definitely run some time here. Honcho Monelli is in career best form with three wins on the trot and looks the testing material. Larrikin Locky was a good winner last start and the wide box will suit. Cairnlea Kenny is resuming from a short break and is all class so should be a big watch especially if there is money for him. Box Up 2.4.5.8.

Race 6 – We will go with Windy Girl here from box 5 at nice eachway odds. She has a good record from box 5 and is a chance of leading. Zellman is the big danger as he was unlucky last start and should have almost won. Strauss was a handy effort last start and box 1 should suit again. Box Up 1.5.6.7.

Race 7 – This looks a race for Becky Bale, she has been racing in fine style and is super strong over the concluding stages. She is a sneaky chance of leading and if so then it’s “game over”. Last start winner Dunkirk looks a strong chance but I’m a bit worried about the wide box with Bereluke the next best . Box Up 1.2.3.8.

Race 8 – This is a TOP CLASS 600m event but I believe both the “Monelli” dogs will fight this one out. Zudactyl Monelli was very unlucky not to win the heat last week in running a close second to On Fire. From box 2 he should be either leading or second and looks hardest to beat. Forgive Ashom Monelli’s last start when he found plenty of trouble after a poor start. He is much better suited from box 8 and expect him to come out flying. Superstar chaser On Fire has an exceptional record over the 600m and a win would not surprise. Spring Bloom should fill the First Four. Box Up 1.2.5.8.

Race 9 – Unfortunately it’s only a small field of 4 greyhounds due to scratching’s however it should be an interesting affair. I’ll go with Signal Peak from box 5. I’m banking on him leading and from there hard to run down. Barton Bale is in super form and looks the main danger while Jimmy McBain has drawn well. First 4 in order 5.8.1.7.

Race 10 – Jamie Quinlivian can make it a race to race double if Shot Thru can have an ounce of luck in this. Shot Thru has won her last two and has the strongest run home times but needs to be close enough. The inside draw does help. Irka Jakit looks well drawn and could lead for a long way while Spring Addo has plenty of ability. Box Up 1.2.3.7.

Race 11Emerley Mine for Judi Hurley to win the last. He has been racing against strong opposition and this looks a slight drop in class with box 6 suiting. Lucy Stardust and Click Here have drawn down near the rails and look the main challengers. Box Up 2.3.4.6.

Race 7 No 3 - Becky Bale

ACCELL THERAPY MATT NOW AVAILABLE AT ANGLE PARK

GRSA have been organising access for participants to an Accell Therapy Matt at Angle Park.

The Matt is now available in the foyer area of the building. It is recommended that a greyhound derives benefit with about a 15 to 20 minute session and is generally for recovery from racing or injury. It will be available during normal office hours to be used (greyhounds racing on that day excluded). Please ask the Racing Admin staff if you wish to use the Matt. GRSA is working towards making this available also during trial sessions.

TRIAL FEES AT RACE MEETINGS FROM 1ST APRIL

With GRSA allowing for trials under certain conditions at race meetings, on occasions payment of these trials may have been overlooked however from the 1st April any greyhound trialling at the race meeting the trainer will be required to pay staff as they would at a normal trial session. This will be consistent with all our racing and trialling meetings.

2018 GAWLER PRODUCE – FINAL PAYMENT DUE ON 6TH APRIL

After the second payment was made in February there are still 92 greyhounds eligible for the 2018 Gawler Produce series which is terrific for the Club and is shaping as another exciting series.
The final is guaranteed at $22,000 which has a $6,000 bonus if a greyhound can win both the Produce Final in July and the Gawler Gold Cup Final in November later this year.
Reminder letters are being sent out today for those needing to make the final payment. If you have not received one by next week please contact Caralyn Fielden at GRSA who can assist.

1 APRIL 2017 INTRODUCTION FOR AMENDED AND NEW GARS

The period of consultation in relation to the new and amended GARs has now concluded.

Given the limited feedback from industry, GRSA intends to continue with the introduction of all the new and amended GARs from 1 April 2018.

Participants are reminded to ensure they have accessed all available information in relation to the changes. This is available via the GRSA website, racing offices or by contacting the Integrity Department.

CLAIMING RACE CONDITIONS AVAILABLE

Specific claiming race conditions have been released for these events, but basically, greyhounds are graded into an event with a claiming price.

Prior to the event, new owners can buy the greyhound before it starts with any prizemoney won being retained by the old owners and then the new owners take the greyhound after the race.
These races provide an opportunity to sell and buy greyhounds that are currently competing.
The next Claiming races scheduled are –
Angle Park on Monday, 9th April over 515m.
Angle Park on Wednesday, 18th April over 388m.

ANGLE PARK TUESDAY TRIALS NOW STARTING AT 6PM

From the most recent Industry Consultative Group meeting it was determined to start the Angle Park Tuesday night trials from 6pm for a 3 month trial period, this started last Tuesday, 6th March.
It was believed this would assist with the lateness of bookings and would also provide more flexibility for participants.
Trainers can book as normal online and by phone. GRSA however will support Satisfactory trials, Qualifying trials, Unproven & Proven trials and marking off of greyhounds with a block of 25 minutes around the same time as normal. (Trainers cannot nominate into this timeslot)
Therefore there will be two blocks of trials from 6pm to 6.50pm allowing for 20 greyhounds to trial, after this staff will then conduct the Satisfactory Trials, Qualifying Trials and mark off greyhounds from 6.50pm to 7.15pm. This also provides an opportunity for GRSA to move the Unproven and Proven greyhound trials earlier in the night, which always used to be the case, where trainers can book into these either online or by phone. Then normal bookings will again commence from 7.15pm.

BREEDER SUPPORT CHANGES

A number of Breeder Support Changes have come into effect from January 1.

The first phase of that framework has commenced with the introduction of the following support strategies:
• 100% increase to the breeder component of the SA Bred Scheme from July 1, 2019 (which will impact more recent litters and all future breeding activity)
• The introduction of a subsidy of $30 per week for any retired greyhound on the waiting list to go into GAP that is being kept on a Trainer’s or Owner’s approved premises from January 1, 2018 commencing from the start of the 7th week on the list post-retirement.  Existing arrangements around subsidised boarding will remain unchanged. New placement forms will be available.
• An increase to the average Breeders’ Support Payment by 40% through the introduction of a fixed payment of $100 per pup for litters whelped after January 1, 2018. New claim forms will be sent out with new services lodged from 1st January 2018.
• The elimination of fees for natural notice of service, FSI notice of service rebated by GRSA, litter registration and naming from January 1, 2018.
• An increase to the subsidy for DNA testing of breeding females to cover the full cost of (approximately) $180 from January 1, 2018. Applications to Greyhounds Australasia for DNA testing from 1st January 2018.
• A cap on the cost of sire registration of $500 with the remainder being reimbursed by way of subsidy from January 1, 2018. Applications to Greyhounds Australasia for stud dog registration from 1st January 2018
• Expansion of the Superbonus scheme in line with consultation with the ICG from January 1, 2018. Specific details to be released shortly.

SA BRED MAIDEN PAYMENT - $1,000 IF WHELPED IN 2016

The SA bred maiden payment rewards participants that get a greyhound to the track to win a race. GRSA has committed to dramatically increase this payment from $175 to $1,000 ($500 breeder/$500 owner) on 1st July, 2017. This will result in all greyhounds that are whelped in 2016 being eligible for this support.
