TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

It’s another strong programme tonight with one highlights being race 4 on the card which is the 2018 Bayroad Queen Stayers Cup where a small but classy field will contest over the 731m, all runners certainly have a chance and its sure to be keenly contested in the early stages. Don’t forget all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - The Rasmussen kennel has been on fire of late and they can kick start their night off with a winner in Lachlan Monelli down in box 3. He has won his past 2 here in good fashion and will be the one they have to beat. Barwell Boy has pace and should be right in the mix again along with the newcomer, Kadabra Monelli. Box Up 3.4.5.8.

Race 2 - I like the book ends in this. Dakota Cam from box 1 and Dyna Quire out in box 8 both have had plenty of chances in recent weeks and can nearly run the Quinella. Add Lilymax who is making her debut and Lightcry for the First Four. Box Up 1.5.7.8.

Race 3 - This is a wide-open affair with a heap of chances. The ones to look out for are Pawesome Nelly who has been in the placings in recent starts, Data Queen who has a terrific turn of early pace and Zoro Bale who will be charging home late. Box Up 1.2.4.8.

Race 4 - As mentioned earlier this is the Final over the Distance and with only the 4 runners now, it will certainly make it interesting. On Fire won here last week in good fashion, coming from near last to score the win. He is well drawn and will be right in the finish again. Zudactyl Monelli is yet to win over the journey here but has been in the money in 3 of his 4 starts.

Race 5 - Purpose Driven resumed here and finished 4th behind Spring Bloom last week. She will be improved by the run and expect a better effort in this tonight. Spring Bloom will again be very hard to beat and is a must for all trifecta punters. Box Up 1.2.4.5.

Race 6 - The Gregory Board kennel is another who has been firing of late and they look very hard to beat with Spring Bridge in this. He has won 4 of his last 5, all in good fashion and is my top pick in this. Aston Abbott is another with the runs on the board with 4 wins from his last 5 so they are a must for our First Four. Box Up 4.5.6.8.

Race 7 – With the scratchings of Nangar Bear and Pyredos Monelli, Cairnlea Jet in box 2 comes right into calculations with his an excellent record here, while Hukanui in box 5 will be getting home strongly as he always does.

Race 8 - The inside 3 all have a chance in this with Windmill Haze getting the nod. He ran on strongly here last week to score in 30.15 and he looks the main threat to his kennel mate Darcy Brown who should be the early leader. Snakebite Bale will be doing his best work late. Box Up 1.2.3.8.

Race 9 - Amity Marlow is drawn for a bold showing in this on her recent efforts where she won here 2 runs back in 30.09, then was a very good 3rd here last start from a wide draw from the rails. She should nearly lead, and win. Bombastic Tim and Cinnamon Rose can run into the placings. Box Up 1.6.7.8.

Race 10 - This is the 600 of the night and Lauren Harris has a big chance with Max Jake down in box 1. He won from this draw last start in good fashion and run a smart 35.11. Spring Irish will be motoring home late along with Pierce Bale. Box Up 1.2.4.7.

Race 11 - And it’s always good to go home on a winner and we can do that with the pacey Bogie Bullet. She found one better in Mepunga Gal here last start but should nearly pinch this with her early dash. Half A Mill can add value to our First four along with Dyna Soren Box Up 3.4.5.6.

There will be three series’ for which payments will need to be made.

The payments due are:

Classic 2018 – Final Payment Pups Born July 16 to Dec 16
This payment is for greyhounds for which the first two Sustaining Payments have been made. The Final Payment is $121 per greyhound.

Breeders 2019 – Second Payment - Pups Born Jan 17 to June 17
This payment is for greyhounds for which the first Sustaining Payment was made last December. The Second Sustaining Payment is $55 per pup or a Final Payment of $121 can be made at this stage.

Classic 2019 – First Payment - Pups Born July 17 to Dec 17

To assist all owners of Futurity eligible pups, reminders were posted this week. It is perhaps a good idea to make the payment as soon as you can, so it doesn’t slip your mind and the closing date passes. If you have sold a pup/s we would ask if you can either forward on the information or let Caralyn Fielden know at GRSA and she can follow it up. If you haven’t received a reminder and you think you should have, contact us asap.

PRIZEMONEY INCREASES FOR ANGLE PARK (CITY A) THURSDAY FROM JULY 1

As of July 1, Thursday Night Angle Park stakemoney across all grades will increase by 5%, reflecting the key role that the premier weekly meeting plays in attracting the highest quality outcomes from local breeding and interstate acquisitions.

This will also benefit some of our feature events that will increase on Thursday nights.

TRAINERS TO RECEIVE $20 FROM 1ST JULY TO REPLACE $15 UNPLACED

The existing $15 unplaced payment that currently applies to a majority of SA greyhound races will be replaced by a new $20 Trainer Raceday Subsidy (TRS) from 1st July with 100% of that payment being allocated directly to trainers.

For clarity, this payment will be made in addition to the $60 trainer rebate and will be allocated to unplaced greyhounds under circumstances wherein the $15 payment would have previously applied. Unplaced payments of more than $20 will remain the same.

PARTICIPANT DRESS CODE

Stewards remind participants to ensure they comply with all requirements of the GRSA Dress Code when attending race meetings when involved in racing.

CHANGES TO 6 MONTH TRIAL POLICY FROM JUNE 1

GRSA Stewards have recently undertaken a benchmarking exercise with other states around field sizes for greyhounds looking to return to racing after not competing for more than six (6) months.

The Stewards view is the spirit of the rule about unraced greyhound for more than six (6) months is to ensure the greyhound is fit to race.

In an effort to assist participants, the GRSA Trial Policy will be amended, to allow greyhounds which have not raced for more than six (6) months to be able to complete a satisfactory trial as a solo trial.  This change will take effect as of 1 June 2018. The provisions of GAR72 and GAR77A still apply.

CLAIMING RACES BEING CONDUCTED

There are specific claiming race conditions for these events, but basically, greyhounds are graded into an event with a claiming price.

Prior to the event, new owners can buy the greyhound before it starts with any prizemoney won being retained by the old owners and then the new owners take the greyhound after the race. These races provide an opportunity to sell and buy greyhounds that are currently competing. Conditions refer to no more than $2,500 or $5,000 claiming prize.

Races are programmed on –
Wednesday 11th July – 388m (up to $5,000)
Sunday 15th July – 400m (Gawler – up to $5,000)
Wednesday 25th July (up to $5,000)

KURT DONSBERG – ONCOURSE RACE NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHER

Recently Kurt was able to extend his roster to not only do Thursday night meetings at Angle Park but also the Monday night and Wednesday day meetings, however, due to personal commitments he is unable to do Monday nights until later in the year.

Kurt will continue as normal with Thursdays and also Wednesdays based on his availability.

On those days/nights of racing when Kurt is not oncourse GRSA will continue to allow participants to take their own presentation photos and if required, gain access to the presentation area. Please just liaise with the Stewards on the day for access.

ACCELL THERAPY MAT NOW AVAILABLE AT ANGLE PARK

The mat is now available in the foyer area of the Angle Park building.

It is recommended that a greyhound derives benefit with a 15 to 20 minute session and is generally for recovery from racing or injury. It will be available during normal office hours to be used (greyhounds racing on that day excluded). Please ask the Racing Admin staff if you wish to use the mat. GRSA is working towards making this available also during trial sessions.
