Angle Park Preview - Thursday 28th February 2019
by The Shadow
We need to bounce back after a very ordinary night on the punt here last week, the highlights look to be 2 very strong heats over the 600m (races 3 and 4) we also have a Distance affair later in the night and with only a small field engaged it is still a very open affair. All races are Trifecta and First Four events and that’s where I have concentrated on for us tonight to try and recoup from my dismal display last week.
Race 1 - We tipped him last week and that is Ebby Lamar, he was checked early in the run when a battling 3rd behind Max Shake, he can improve from a better draw here tonight and go very close. Max Shake again is the big danger, he led throughout from box 2 and went a quick 29.88, the wide draw is the only worry. Box Up 1.2.3.8
Race 2 - The Maiden event of the night and I will stick with the Tim Richards trained Almighty Stripe out in box 6, he was a big improver here last start and is our top selection. Fantastic Arlo is a newcomer and is sure to be well tried on his SA debut. Box Up 1.6.7.8.
Race 3 - First of the 600m heats and we will go with last start winner Waterloo Monelli, he flew late over the sprint to win in 29.94 and the extra distance should suit. Sketchy Gun and Lonnie Knight can run into the placings. Box Up 1.2.5.7
Race 4 - Dyna Alice is a newcomer from across the border and she has won 6 from 39 along with 10 placings, she was a last start winner at The Meadows over the 600m in a handy 35.06 and looks well placed in this. Saldana led throughout here last week for a 35.09 win and is drawn well again and looks the main danger along with Dance And Sing. Box Up 1.2.4.5.
Race 5 - This looks a wide open affair so we will go with the well-drawn Swift Timing who has been racing well over the short. Unique Edition can be hit and miss early but will be doing his best work late and is a must for our Trifecta. Box Up 1.2.5.8
Race 6 - Cawbourne Swade is very smart with a clear run early, he won here 4 starts back and went a very quick B.O.N 29.48, he then ventured to Melbourne and won at The Meadows. He should take beating in the small field tonight. Kennel mate Shimando found a heap of trouble here in last weeks St Leger final and is more than capable if he comes out running. Add Don’t Quote Me for our First Four. Box Up 1.2.4.6.
Race 7 - The Cameron Butcher kennel has Times Right is resuming, this dog hasn’t raced since last November and prior he was in terrific form, he should be primed for a 1st up assault. Diamond Heart ran a handy 3rd on his debut and should only be improved by the run. Box Up 2.3.4.6
Race 8 - Alicante Bouchet proved far too strong here last week when winning in 29.70 from box 1, she only needs to stay out of trouble early to win again. Sarina Monelli is a lot better than her past 2 suggests and a win wouldn’t be a surprise. Add Larrikin Locky who showed a glimpse here last week for the Trifecta. Box Up 2.3.4.6.
Race 9 - This is the Distance affair and with only the 4 runners it is still very interesting as they all are more than capable of winning. Nations should start the punters elect as he has a perfect strike rate of 2 from 2 this trip. Ethics beat a similar field here late January and Cairnlea Jet is a class act on his night but has been racing below his best in recent starts. Box up 5.7.1.3.
Race 10 - Zipping Maisy missed the start here last week and battled on for a 5th in 29.70, she normally is a faultless beginner and from the rails draw should send us home on a winning note. Flyrite will add a bit of value into our First Four the Jessup kennel who is having a terrific run at the moment so she can’t be overlooked. Mendoza Monelli is another newcomer from WA, he has VERY mixed form but has to be kept safe on his debut. Box Up 1.4.5.6.

GAWLER MORNING MEETING TOMORROW TO START EARLIER DUE TO HEAT FORECAST
The Gawler meeting scheduled for tomorrow (1st March) was moved into a Morning slot earlier in the week however with the expected heat forecast in the region GRSA has altered the times to start earlier. The first race tomorrow will be at 9.45am local time with the last of 10 at 12.15pm to avoid the heat of the afternoon. Kennelling times are 8.30am to 9.15am.
GAWLER CLASSIC FINAL TOMORROW
Tomorrow’s meeting at Gawler will see the running of the Gawler Classic final for those greyhounds paid up for Classic 2018. This series was meant to be run in December last year however had to be reprogrammed due to a lack of support. Tomorrow’s meeting was meant to be heats into a final however with only 3 greyhounds eligible GRSA has decided to run this race as a final to complete the Classic 2018 series. GRSA made this decision based on the Classic 2018 series is a pay up series with contributions from industry participants, the series has already been moved once due to a lack of support and by making tomorrow’s meeting a one off final the connections of each of the greyhounds are guaranteed a run and the series is completed rather than waiting a week in the hope there may be more eligible nominations.
IMPORTANT CHANGE TO NOMINATION PROCESS AND RACE MEETING COMPOSITION
(To take effect from February 11)
GRSA has a fundamental responsibility to manage weekly nominations and the scheduling of meetings in a manner which is responsive to the environment in which we operate and that best serves the interests of our local participants. In noting the frequency with which nominations for race meetings are being extended – particularly during the summer months – and having regard for current supply pressures, the Racing Department will be adopting a new approach to race meeting composition from Monday, February 11.
For all meetings, other than for extraordinary circumstances, each timeslot will be afforded ONE extension of nominations period only. The table below summarises the current standard closing times for meeting nominations and the final closing time that will apply from February 11.
In the event that the standard nominations closing time changes (due to Public Holiday, for example) the Racing Department will notify of that change via text and Industry Facebook.
Additionally, the priority for the Racing Department in constructing a race meeting will be to prioritise the number of races conducted over average field size. To the extent that some smaller field sizes need to be drawn – noting that a standard minimum of six runners will apply – to meet that objective, that is the approach that will be adopted. Exceptions to the minimum field size may apply in some instances such as for Thursday night staying events, match races, mixed higher grade events, time grading or to accommodate specific feature race requirements.
GRADE 6 CONDITIONS TO CHANGE DUE TO MONDAY NIGHT 388M - FROM 10TH FEBRUARY 2019
For meetings graded from 10th February, 2019 (first meeting affected will be Monday, 18th February) all greyhounds will use their City B grade and not APD Wednesday grade. There will be no retrospective grading for meetings graded from 10th February, 2019. So what grade your greyhound is at that time is what it will be going forward. Prizemoney will be short course City B money and winning greyhounds will take a penalty to be consistent with other meetings.
With 388m now considered on a Monday night (City B) the grading guidelines will also be changed (see below) to have consistency with our tracks. The main change is City A Thursday stands alone with winning only one Grade 6 event and also if you win a Grade 5 event you lose all Grade 6’s everywhere which has been in for some time. City B Monday night will now be considered for meetings graded from 10th February, 2019 like Gawler where you could win two Grade 6’s as part of your 4 (Non SA Bred) or 12 (SA Bred). This means, on a Monday greyhounds can win a 388m and then a 515m or a 600m and 515m. Please contact the Grader for further clarification if required.
UPDATE TO PATHWAY AND TIME GRADING TIME STANDARDS (Inclusion of Murray Bridge)
The GRSA Racing Department wishes to advise of an update to the time standards for both Time Grading and Pathway Racing. This update allows for the inclusion of Murray Bridge, following three months of racing at the venue and the subsequent evaluation of times being recorded. The changes will be implemented with immediate effect.
The Murray Bridge time standards will be subject to ongoing review to ensure they are consistent with the time standards from the other SA tracks.
PATHWAY TIME STANDARDS
REPAIRS TO GUTTERS ON ADELAIDE ROAD BY COUNCIL STARTING NEXT WEEK
GRSA has been advised that the City of Port Adelaide Enfield Council will be commencing road works from 25/2/19 to 25/3/19 to repair curb and gutters. This will affect Adelaide Road and likely participants, staff and patrons accessing the Angle Park venue. There may be road closures, traffic delays etc during this time.
