TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

Tonight we have the exciting State of Origin (SA V Vic) Match Race series and it will certainly make for interesting racing as we have seen major upsets in the past with match racing. Other huge highlights for the night are a very good 600m event and a handy 731m on the programme as the racing hots up. All skills will be needed to land some winners throughout the coming weeks. As always, all events are Trifecta and First Fours.

Race 1 Razor’s Edge loves this circuit and will be very hard to beat on his recent efforts, he has early pace and is my top pick. It’s A Riot found a heap of trouble here last week but can improve despite the poor draw. Box Up 1.5.7.8.

Race 2 - The Victorian runner Road To Success is in the powerful Angela Langton kennel and is coming of a 2nd at Geelong at his 1st start, if he can run the trip should prove the one to beat. Billie Burner is the improver from the rails draw and can run a cheeky race. Box Up 1.5.7.8

Race 3 - This is the Match race series and its very hard to go past the Jason Thompson trained Hooked On Scotch, he carved an exciting 29.11 around the Sandown loam which was nearly under water, all greyhound enthusiasts would have loved to see that run on a dry track. Locally bred and owned Sennachie already has a personal best here when he was a youngster of 29.50, he will need to go a little quicker here and is certainly more than capable of doing that tonight. The others to watch is Spring Bridge, he is very strong and this series should suit. 6.2.8.3 (these runners have nearly won close to a MILLION Dollars put together)

Race 4 - Bailey Rocks hasn’t had a huge amount of luck in recent runs, she is a class act on her night and is a big chance of bouncing back into the winner’s circle tonight. Spring Taylor will be running on as will Aston Nirvana. Box Up 2.4.7.8.

Race 5 - Chief Fernando was a last start winner at the Meadows in a smart 29.79 from box 7, he looks well drawn tonight and will prove hard to beat on his SA debut. Star Anise collected the bickies for us last week and appears the main danger, add in Mepunga Zeus who is capable of carving out quick times. Box Up 1.2.3.4

Race 6 - This is a 600m event and the Victorian runner Gwydion has won 2 from this draw in recent starts at the Meadows and Sandown, she is a more than handy type and looks the one to beat. West On Bamboo will be running on strongly and is a must for the trifecta. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 7 - This is a wide open affair with at least 4 winning chances, I like the inside 3 in Diamond Heart who is well drawn and is a chance of pinching this and good odds. Alicante Bouchet who is very smart when on the lure and should start the punters elect, add Fantastic Yankee who is the form runner with wins at Murray Bridge and won here last week in good fashion. Box Up 1.2.3.6

Race 8 - Dyna Quota has a very good record over the journey here with 7 wins from 9 runs, she should be able to kick up early and prove too strong again. My Boy Bean is very tardy early and will be doing his best work late. Five Thirty and Woolooga for the minors. Box up 2.3.5.8

Race 9 - Tony’s Spark led everywhere bar the post when 2nd behind Oakvale Astro in 30.09 he looks the likely leader again and is boxed for a bold showing. Kennel mates Canya Queen and Hot Spartan can round out the Trifecta for the Rasmussen kennel. Box Up 1.2.5.7

Race 10 - I like one in this at handy odds in Tornado Alley, he was a handy 2nd here last week behind Star Anise after leading early, I would prefer him closer to the fence but he is a definite threat in this. Connor Allen is well drawn and is boxed for a bold showing along with Dyna Alistair who will be running on. Box up 1.4.7.8

Race 11 - The Victorian performer Weblec Spice is well drawn in this, she has been placed at Sandown late last month and should find this more to her liking. Cawbourne Hunter is a class act when on the lure and the small field is a huge bonus, he has early pace and should start the favourite. Box Up 1.2.4.8.

TAB 2019 STATE OF ORIGIN MATCH RACE SERIES – SA V VIC TONIGHT

GRSA introduced the “State of Origin” Match Race series in a lead up to the Group 1 Adelaide Cup last year where 4 greyhounds from SA will take on 4 greyhounds from Victoria in one on one racing.
Tonight the quality of greyhounds from SA and across the border is outstanding an all goes well for an outstanding series. There will be a real “State v State” rivalry which should get the local crowd excited.  GRSA would like to thank the local support for this series and also the support of the Victorian kennels of the Steve White, Jason Thompson, Jeff Britton, Anthony Azzopardi and Rosalyn Hume kennels who all nominated greyhounds.

We will hopefully see these 7 greyhounds progress to the Heats of the Group 1 Adelaide Cup next week however the winner will be able to bypass the series and gain automatic entry into the Group 1 TAB Adelaide Cup on Friday 11th October.

All matches will be on Sky 2 and two will be on Sky 1 (Match 1 and 3)

Oncourse tonight there will be an SA v Vic theme with footy colours on our promotional girls, bibs for the handlers in State colours, greyhounds will have specially designed race rugs in State colours with their names on then rugs.

GRSA will show live footage of the greyhounds inside the boxes broadcast looking from behind the greyhounds as they get ready to race and just after the start which will be very exciting along with some new footage.

GRADING CHANGES FROM GRADING REVIEW PANEL HAVE STARTED

The main change from the GRP was that when a greyhound comes to SA and has won less than 5 races (1-4 wins) then it will be considered a Grade 6 even if it has won Grade 5 races (Metropolitan Grade 5 races (460m – 590m) in their State, however, this will affect Grade 6). There will be no retrospective grading for greyhounds already in SA with a starting date of the 9th September.

MOUNT GAMBIER TIME GRADING TO BE A MIX OF WINS FROM OCTOBER

After a request from the Mt Gambier GRC to change the format of their Time Grading events, GRSA has approved the change for their Thursday meetings from specific grades to a mix of race wins. From their meeting on Thursday, 3rd October and all other Time Graded meetings races will be Maidens, 1-4 wins and 5+ wins which will change from Maiden, Grade 6 and Grade 5.

Races will still be Non Penalty, with normal Time Graded prizemoney.

For Middle Distance (600m) and Distance (732m) racing, the GRSA Grader (using discretion), may choose to construct a field over these distances without regard for the number of wins of the greyhounds nominated, if in the opinion of the Grader the spread of Time Ratings warrants the running of that race.

NEW TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP FORM INCLUDES PROOF OF PURCHASE

Participants are advised that as from 1st September, 2019 a new Transfer of Ownership Form is to be completed if wanting to seek grading exemptions.  The new Form has a Proof of Purchase section, this requires purchasers to lodge documentation confirming the purchase of the greyhound or if no documentation is available then it is a requirement for the Statutory Declaration to be completed.  If a Transfer of Ownership Form is lodged without the completion of this section then NO grading exemptions will be applied to the greyhound.  The form is available on our website.
