TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

We have two terrific Semis of the 2019 Howard Ashton tonight over the sprint, races 6 and 7, so it will make for a hot final next week.  We had a handy night on the punt last Thursday and there looks to be some standouts again this evening.

Race 1 - Sweet Ella was a nice run from this draw last start when 2nd behind Canya Chase in quick time, she should go very close on that effort.  Legendary Lao has been performing well on the Murray Bridge circuit and has the rails draw, add Fly For Fun who won here last start in handy time. Box Up 1.2.5.8

Race 2 - The Rasmussen kennel have a big chance with Main Exit, she was placed here on debut last week from this draw and can go one better in this.  Dashing Mickey is on the improve, needs to improve her box manners but is very strong. Box Up 1.2.7.8

Race 3 - I like the newcomer here in Up And About for the Rawlings kennel, he has won 3 of 15 along with 6 placings and has carved out a quick win at Sandown in late March, he is sure to be well tried.  King Percy loves a wide draw and appears the main danger. Box Up 2.4.5.8.

Race 4 - This is a 600m event and Sale Graze Bindi flew late to win here last start over this trip in 35.27 from this draw she looked very smart that night and can do the same again.  More Run Bateman and Caribbean Red can run into the placings. Box Up 1.4.5.8

Race 5 - Master Chaos has struck form with 2 wins on the trot over this trip and can make it a hattrick, he should get a clear run from the draw and will be doing his best work late.  Come Home and Love Made Me are others who have been racing well and will be right in the mix. Box Up 2.4.5.8

Race 6 - The first of the Semis and we saw a classy youngster win here last week in Querencia, carving out a sensational B.O.N 29.30 he has a very big future and it’s very hard to tip against him on that effort.  Oakvale Thrill and the Victorian visitor Rock It Fernando for the minors. Box Up 2.3.5.7

Race 7 - The second of the Semis and we tipped her last week at handy odds and she saluted and that is Oakvale Beauty, she ran on well to win in 30.03 from this draw and she can do the same again for us tonight.  The main dangers look to be Bailey Rocks and our value runner Emerley Fabbro. Box Up 1.2.6.7

Race 8 - Waterloo Monelli has been in terrific form of late winning over the sprint and the 600m, he is a rising 4 year old but continues to carve out quick times, he looks hard to beat again.  Times Right will come out running and is drawn to perfection, the Cameron Butcher sprinter has won 7 of his past 9 and is the big danger. Box up 1.4.7.8

Race 9 - This is a wide-open affair and there certainly is a bit of value in this.  Oakvale Warrior resumed here last week from a lengthy break; he didn’t set the world on fire but is capable of a sharp improvement.  Surfing Dyno can add some value to the Trifecta, he loves a wide draw and is a definite threat, add Cappuccino who has early pace and has been very consistent of late. Box Up 1.2.5.7

Race 10 - There is a lot of early pace in this and the 2 inside dogs are both big chances.  I will stick with Flyrite as she led everywhere bar the post here last start, she can kick up early and will take beating.  Diamond Heart is the other who has early speed and she can run the Quinella. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 11 - My Boy Bean is my tip in this, he was a solid 2nd over the 700m here last start behind Saldana and won in a quick 35.17 here over the 600m earlier in the month, he only needs to be handy early to win.  Dawn To Dusk won from this draw at Murray Bridge last start and is a big chance of leading if there is any trouble, she could pinch this.  Add Born Sassy and Zipping Rocket for the First Four. Box Up 4.5.7.8

Race 12 - Mepunga Zeus was a last start winner here in a slick time (29.46) from box 1, he had been on the improve in recent runs and on his latest efforts should prove hard to beat again.  Better Dream is a newcomer with 5 wins and 2 placings from his 11 starts, he won at Cranbourne last start over the 520m and has early pace.  Fantastic Yankee is another making his debut here for a new kennel and is an Ex-NSW performer. Box Up 1.2.5.8

GROUP 3 HOWARD ASHTON SEMI FINALS TONIGHT

There are two terrific Semi-Finals tonight for the Group 3 Howard Ashton after 3 heats were run last Thursday at Angle Park.

Heat winners were –
Querencia - 29.30
Errington – 29.87
Oakvale Beauty – 30.03

There’s plenty of form in each Semi-Final however after last weeks heat win by Querencia in 29.30 it looks like only bad luck will stop him qualifying and being hard to beat next week.  As there are two Semi-Finals the first four from each Semi-Final will qualify for next weeks final. The box draw will take place on track tonight, following race 8.

The 2019 Howard Ashton Final is a Group 3 event, with total prizemoney of $37,500. It is the main race series of Breeders 2019.

WINNING POST SUPPLIES IN SA THIS WEEK

Peter Bryce from Winning Post Supplies will be at all of our local venues from yesterday until Monday next week.

ATTENTION GOTBA VIRGINIA KEY MEMBERS

The caretaker has just notified the GOTBA Virginia club that she will be on holidays from yesterday to Tuesday next week, therefore, the Park will be closed during this time.

She will return and open the park as normal next Wednesday.  As SA Water is doing major works at the bottom of Tozer Road, they have removed the GOTBA gate and replaced it with a temporary fence, therefore, there is NO ACCESS to the park via the normal GOTBA entrance.  If key members use the park and find the front gate open, please be aware that the other clubs will lock the gate when they leave, they DO NOT check to see if other users are on the park, therefore, if key members get locked in, they will not be able to be let out.

GOTBA AGM NOW ON SUNDAY 26TH MAY

The GOTBA AGM scheduled for this Sunday, 28th April has been postponed to Sunday, 26th May at 11am in their Clubrooms at Carmello Road, Virginia (State Shooting Park) – all are welcome.

SHANE MCQUEEN HEATS IN LATE MAY (NOT G-SIX)

The main 600m feature at Angle Park comes up on Thursday, 30th May with the running of the $5,240 heats of the Shane McQueen.

• Nominations close on Monday, 27th May with GRSA at 9.00am.

MURRAY BRIDGE SHOWGROUNDS CLOSURE

GRSA advises that demolition works on the track and facilities at the old Murray Bridge Showgrounds site will commence next Monday.  This work will involve the removal of the clubhouse and judges tower, as well as the starting boxes, track fencing, lure rail, catching pen and lure motor shed.

Participants will no longer be able to use the Showgrounds site to free gallop their greyhounds.

GRSA will discuss with the club and maintenance staff the possibility of using the new straight track for free galloping outside of the normal racing and trialling schedule. There is also a long-term objective to have a dedicated slipping track on the Murray Bridge site.

The exit from the Showgrounds site was a requirement of the Murray Bridge Council, as part of the purchase agreement for the parcel of land where GRSA have built the new greyhound racing facility.

GROUP 1’s AT SANDOWN TOMORROW NIGHT

It will be a big night at Sandown tomorrow night with the running of three Group 1 events.  The Group 1 Harrison Dawson over the 515m (race 5 at 7.57pm), Sapphire Crown Final over 515m (race 6 at 8.20pm) and the $175,000 to the winner Sandown Cup Final over the 715m (race 8 at 8.57pm).

Exciting SA kennel mates Galactic Athena and Galactic Titan are also engaged at the meeting for South East trainer Steve Bartholomew.  Both are in Grade 5 heats with Athena in race 1 at 6.38pm and Titan in race 3 at 7.20pm local time and we wish them the best of luck.

MOUNT GAMBIER ARE RACING EVERY THURSDAY AND SUNDAY

Mount Gambier are now racing every Thursday, with the introduction of the G-SIX racing.

As a result of this they will now race twice a week during the 3 month trial period on Thursdays and Sundays.

G-SIX RACING

G-SIX Racing has kicked off for its 3 month trial period with Angle Park, Gawler and Mount Gambier all racing under these conditions.

G-SIX offers more racing at more meetings, cleaner racing with less interference as there are only 6 greyhounds per event, stakemoney increases to owners and trainers worth more than $1,000,000 and a consistent weekly schedule at our venues.

There will be some exceptions to the G-SIX for feature races with specific feature events not under the G-SIX conditions, like the Group 3 Howard Ashton for example.

Participants are encouraged to check the racing calendar for G-SIX events and scheduling and ensure they are aware of the conditions during the 3 month trial.

REARERS DETAILS REQUIRED

GRSA would like to build a list of rearers available in SA.  If you are comfortable to have your details made available to the Industry for you to provide rearing services please reply to Shaun Mathieson via email [email protected] or phone (08) 8243 7100.

BLACK SHORTS NOW AVAILABLE FROM GRSA

After approval from the ICG, black shorts are now part of the GRSA Dress Code Policy and available for sale from GRSA.

These shorts have the GRSA logo embroidered on the back and are the only shorts approved. They cost $45 and are available in mens and ladies sizes with orders taken if we do not have your size. Black shorts are to be worn with black socks and black shoes. These shorts can be worn at the discretion of the participant at any time.

NEW RED WET WEATHER JACKETS REPLACING OLD BLUE JACKETS

GRSA purchased new red jackets for Winter to be available as a replacement for the blue Drizeabone Jackets which are now no longer available.

These red jackets are at the tracks and are available for purchase at Angle Park for a cost of $50. GRSA will take orders as required.

The Stewards have directed that these red jackets are a replacement for the blue ones and are to be worn only when the Stewards have directed them to be worn (raining).  At all other times the “Only At The Dogs” vests are to be worn so that all participants are wearing the same clothing.
