TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

I would like to kick off with a big good luck to our representatives this Friday night in Melbourne for the National Finals, we look to have a tough assignment ahead but you have to be in it to win it.

Tonight, here at Headquarters we have a 10-event programme and there looks to be a couple of specials throughout the night so let’s get on the front foot and win early, don’t forget all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - The Ben Rawlings trained Bogie Bullet gets her chance to kick us off on a winning note, she has battled on well here in recent runs and should be able to lead and win from her draw of 4. Bella Trix has been struggling of late but is more than capable when on song. Box Up 1.4.5.8.

Race 2 - There are a couple of main chances in this and we will go with Spring Kudu out in box 7, he has been in the placings at his last 3 here and will be working home well in the small field. Max Dream and Hilltop Tales are definite threats. Box Up 2.4.7.8.

Race 3 - Shimando has won his past 2 here in good fashion and is drawn for a bold showing once again, his early pace should have him right on the lure early and he should go very close. Brother Griff has won his last 4 over the short at Gawler and is a must here for the Trifecta. Add Dashing Hope and Isen Allen for the minors. Box Up 2.3.5.8.

Race 4 - This is a wide-open affair and we will go with the Cameron Butcher youngster Hopes Beau for value, he has moderate beginners on his inside and should be able to run a cheeky race. Game Face and the new comer He’s Okay are also amongst the main chances. Box Up 1.5.6.7.

Race 5 - Nations is a top-class performer and charged home to win here over the sprint last week in a BON 29.70, he steps up over the 600m in this and should prove too classy. Stack The Aces has a good record over this trip and will be right in the mix. Box Up 1.4.6.8.

Race 6 - Kirin Corby has Fabwik flying at the moment winning her last 4 here all in slick times, she should lead and win again and looks one of the better bets on the programme. Menzali and Mepunga Gal can run into the placings. Box Up 1.3.6.7.

Race 7 - Mister consistent Wait There is my pick in this, he is yet to miss a cheque in 7 starts since transferring to SA and his draw of 6 tonight shouldn’t be a problem as he won from this draw last start in a handy 30.03 over Master Chaos. Don Lesta and Fantastic Chief have claims and can run into the placings. Box Up 1.2.3.6.

Race 8 - Lisa Rasmussen rarely goes home without a winner and she should salute with the well-drawn Lachlan Monelli, he won here last week in 29.95 leading throughout and should be able to do the same tonight. Alpha Aion is racing well of late and has won in quick times here in the past. Mr. Arjay can add some value to our First Four as he loves a wide draw. Box Up 1.3.5.8.

Race 9 - This is the distance event of the night and San Tan Sam won here last week over this trip in good fashion, he should be handy again and is our top pick. Springvale Choix continues to run into the placings and looks a good thing for the Quinella. Box Up 1.2.4.8.

Race 10 - The Jamie Quinlivian kennel holds all the aces in this event he has the well performed Talitha Cumi in fine form and we will put her on top on her recent wins here and at Mount Gambier, the kennel also has Shot Thru engaged and she is drawn to run a cheeky race out wide. Box Up all the evens 2.4.6.8.

2018 CROCMEDIA NATIONALS ON FRIDAY NIGHT

The 2018 CROCMEDIA Nationals are at Sandown Park in Victoria on Friday night with the Distance Championship being race 5 at 7.58pm SA time.

Velocity Lilly for Kim Johnstone is our SA representative and we wish them the best of luck in what looks a terrific final. Two of the best stayers in the land will do battle in Tornado Tears and Rippin Sam and with a bit of luck we could see Velocity Lilly pushing through to give SA their first victory since Bothing won in Launceston in 2006.

Race 7 at 8.40pm SA time will be the National Sprint Final where all local eyes will be on Cairnlea Kenny for Petar Jovanovic who has drawn perfectly in box 1.

He loves it on the rails and has run some brilliant times at Angle Park from the red box. We wish them the best of luck against some high quality sprinters in the likes of Big Flood, Skywave and West On Augie. Cairnlea Kenny will be looking to repeat the dose of our last winner of the Sprint in 2016 when Worm Burner claimed the prize on home soil.

Cairnlea Jet will also compete on the night over the staying trip which could end up being a big night for SA!!!

WATERLOO CUP THIS WEEKEND AT VIRGINIA

The time honoured Waterloo Cup will be run this Sunday at Virginia.

In one of the biggest meetings for the year the GOTBA will have a fantastic day which also includes the Oaks and Derby. Coursing at Virginia is definitely the place to be this Sunday for your greyhound action.

BIG SATURDAY NIGHT PLANNED FOR THE RASMUSSENS AT THE MEADOWS

The Rasmussen team is again travelling interstate with a big team engaged at the Meadows on Saturday night.

In Grade 5 600m Heats they have three of their best chasers engaged. Race 7 No 5 Jeebus Bird, Race 9 No 6 Zudactyl Monelli and Race 10 No 2 Honcho Monelli, all look suited by the conditions with the winners and fastest 3 third placegetters progressing to the $12,000 to the winner final the following week.
Also on Saturday night the Group 3 Cranbourne Puppy Classic Final will be run with SA owned and bred Panhandle Slim will going in as one of the favourites after his brilliant win last week in the heats. Now trained by Seona Thompson in Victoria after being transferred from the Ray Murray kennels he has drawn awkwardly in box 4 but with luck early will be hard to hold out. He is in race 5 at 6.07pm SA time and we wish connections the best of luck.

KINGS AND QUEENS FEATURE HEATS – NOMINATIONS CLOSE ON MONDAY

This year GRSA will conduct the Kings and Queens Feature series with Heats on Thursday, 30th August and a $7,000 Final on Thursday, 6th September in support of those greyhounds affected by the change to the GCA Age Restricted Classics change a few years ago.

The eligibility for this series is for dogs and bitches whelped between 1st March 2016 and 31st May 2016. Performed Maidens are eligible (raced or qualy trialled).

Special conditions apply however these races will be non-penalty.

STATE OF ORIGIN MATCH RACE SERIES IN LATE SEPTEMBER

GRSA has introduced an exciting new feature “State of Origin” Match Race series in a lead up to the Group 1 Adelaide Cup on Thursday, 29th September where 4 greyhounds from SA will take on 4 greyhounds from Victoria in one on one racing.

CONDITIONS OF THE SERIES:
The State of Origin Match Race series between South Australia and Victoria will be held on Thursday, 27th September this year, the week before the Adelaide Cup heats.
Eligibility as to who represents South Australia or Victoria would be based around the Nationals conditions. Greyhounds would need to be trained in either State 76 days out of the last 150 prior to the close of nominations.

GRSA will call for nominations which will close on Friday morning, 23rd September at 9am for the State of Origin Match Race series. The best four greyhounds nominated from SA and Victoria will be selected by the GRSA grader. The Grader will use whatever information he has available to select those greyhounds. The Graders decision will be final. Those greyhounds not selected from Interstate will be given the opportunity to solo trial or race in another event on the night. Reserves will be declared with one from SA and one from Victoria depending on nominations to replace the States representative if scratched. For example the SA reserve will only replace an SA scratching.

The Grader will rate the four greyhounds from each State in order from 1 to 4 with 1 being the highest rated greyhound. The head to head matches will be decided by the two 1 rated greyhounds competing against each other and then it will be 2 v 2, 3 v 3 and 4 v 4. Prizemoney for each individual match will also reflect 1 to 4 with the 1 rated greyhounds receiving the most amount of money. However the overall winner will still be determined based around the times the greyhounds run so all greyhounds have that opportunity.

PRIZEMONEY:
Winners of match races –
1 v 1 – Winner $3,750
2 v 2 –  Winner $3,500
3 v 3 –  Winner $3,250
4 v 4 –  Winner $3,000

Overall State of Origin winner (based on overall times) $5,000, second $2,500, third $1,000

Swabbing – It will be the intention of the Integrity staff to swab all greyhounds that trial in public for the Auction.
