TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

Its finals night here at headquarters, we have my favourite the 2020 SA Distance Championship final, race 6 on the programme, its great to see we have a full field and with several good chances in this. It should make for an exciting event and a great betting affair, we also have the final of the 2020 Anniversary Cup over the sprint, race 8 on the programme, this has ended up with 8 class runners who can all carve out slick times when on song. We saw a couple of these performers scorch the track here last week in the heats. Add to tonight’s racing we have a 600m affair, race 4 that is wide open. It certainly makes for a good night on the punt and hopefully continues our good form, as usual all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - To kick start the night we will go with the newcomer Couture down in box 1, he has only had 19 career starts for 4 wins and 5 seconds, he hasn’t raced since late January and will be running on as he has won over more ground. Cawbourne Clancy is a pacey type and should find this easier than his past couple and is right in the mix along with Buddy Guy and Allinga Jess. Box Up 1.3.5.8

Race 2 - This is the Maiden of the night and we will stick with Gladys Lillian, she has handy short course form and should lead here for a long way. Victa Judy is well drawn and has been placed here at her past couple, she has been in the money at 7 of her 9 starts. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 3 - Velocity Dory has been racing very well of late and is drawn for another forward showing tonight, she has the pace to lead and win. Dyna Adria can add some value to our First Four, she is a lot better than her recent form suggests and a win wouldn’t be a surprise at big odds. Patrick Francis and Cawbourne Hunter for the minors. Box Up the inside four 1.2.3.4

Race 4 - This is the 600m of the night and it’s a wide open affair. Power Burner and Holy Reign should set the early pace and look the top dangers with Ask Me Now to run home strong. Box Up 1.5.7.8

Race 5 - There are  a couple in this at handy odds that appear good chances and they are the Ex W.A performer Eighty Eight and Tornado Alley both have the credentials of winning tonight. Conner Peruzzi  is working towards another win and is my top selection as he has the early pace, add Feelin’ for the minors. Box Up 1.3.4.7

Race 6 - As mentioned earlier I love my distance racing and with nearly $10,000 to the winner the 8 runners tonight all have a claim to be the 2020 SA Distance Champion. My Boy Bean is the ultra-consistent performer, he hasn’t missed a cheque for connections in his last 9 runs, well drawn and is in the mix. Wooden Tiger who is my selection purely on his box manners, he should be able to skip to the front and carve out a more than handy time to collect the bickies. Zipping Galon is the class runner he rattled home here last week when 3rd behind My Boy Bean, he has won 4 of 5 here and should be primed for the Championship. Sir Truculent is a true stayer he will be back in the pack then unleash with a huge run late. Box up 1.3.4.5

Race 7 - Greg Board has a handy kennel and Spring Vinnie loves the rails draw, with 2 wins from his past 5 both in quick times he appears one of the better bets of the night for mine. Allinga Mal can be hit and miss on box rise, he is never far away in his races and is a must for the First Four. Rockstar Fletch was a very good winner from this draw last start in 29.93, the Rawlings team could have a big night here at headquarters tonight.  Viking Vince has a good turn of early dash from the lids and will be carving across, he will add value the First Four. Box Up 1.3.7.8

Race 8 - This is the Final of the 2020 Anniversary Cup and carries $9975.00 to the winner, we need to round it off to the $10,000 mark maybe we can do that in 2021. How good are these finalists, the Ben Rawlings kennel has been on fire of late and has 3 runners in tonight’s final, full marks to the kennel for achieving this and I have gone with It’s A Riot from their kennel to salute in a tough affair, hopefully he can lead and pinch a decent break into the back and hold on. Alfieri was MASSIVE here last week, he absolutely scorched the Angle Park loam with a sensational 29.39 run winning by over 6.50 Lengths with a career record of 15 wins and 3 placings he should and will start the punters elect. Two Times Twice and Rev Fred Sloy can round out the First Four in a top class event. Box Up 1.2.3.4

Race 9 - We are looking for a bit of value in this and we will go with the well-drawn Vontae Mack down in box 1, he can be hit and miss on box rise but should be working home late. Add Spring Cobra and Top Right as my roughie of the night, he could ping and lead and prove very hard to catch. Box Up 1.3.4.6

Race 10 - Let’s hope we go home on a winner after a terrific night of racing and we can do this with the pacey Cawbourne Coco who is in the Rasmussen kennel, he has struck form with 2 wins here in a row and should go very close in this. Lawrie Road is the danger, he is working towards a win on recent efforts and should start the fav. Box up 1.4.5.6
