TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

Tonight, here at Headquarters the quality of the fields are certainly first class, we have a mixture of sprint, 600m and a 731m throughout the night. The final of the Launching Pad series is race 8 on the card and that appears a wide open affair with the outstanding litter of Fernando Bale / Rhonda Rocks having 3 runners engaged. As usual all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - I will stick with Larrikin Locky in this, he was checked early last start and was never in the hunt, and he can lead and win despite his ordinary draw. Born Billy and Jack Get Back are both well-drawn and are a must for our Trifecta. Box Up 1.2.4.6

Race 2 - This is the Maiden and with only the 5 runners we will go with Corbett out in box 8, he is quick early and should be able to pinch this. Spring Brigade will be running on strongly and can run the Quinella. Box Up 2.4.6.8.

Race 3 - The well named Eye Catcher can bounce back in this, he won here on debut after pinging the lids, and he is well drawn here and should be hard to beat. Just Ruby is the veteran of the race and loves this draw and should be at handy odds. Add Miss Wormwood who was a strong winner here last week. Box Up 1.3.4.7.

Race 4 - This is the distance affair of the night and the Victorian visitor Billy Bake was a last start winner at Sale over the 650m, he is a strong type who will be hard to beat. Unmistakable has been the big improver in recent weeks over the 600m with 2 solid wins in quick times, he is stepping up to the 731m here and can’t be overlooked. Box Up 2.6.7.8.

Race 5 - There is a lot of pace in this and we will go with Slippers Time in box 5, she has been racing well over the short with several quick wins, she loves this track and can hopefully hold on. Go Brandi loves to run a place, she is another who has early pace and should be in our First Four. The value runner is Diamond Heart who will be running on and she is working towards a win. Box Up 2.3.5.8

Race 6 - Ebby Lamar is the form runner, he won by a massive 11 lengths here last start in 29.90 and is hard to tip against on that effort. Spring Kudu is dropping back in distance and should be the improver, add Dyna Adria for value. Box Up 1.2.4.7

Race 7 - This is the Open event of the night and Cawbourne Swade is my top pick, he carved out a slick 29.88 win here last start and from the inside draw should go even quicker. Black Antico was a terrific winner here last start winning in 29.79 and can figure in the money again on that effort along with Shimando who is more than capable when on the lure. Box Up 1.2.3.7.

Race 8 - As mentioned earlier this is certainly a top quality line up for the 2019 SA Launching Pad, Red Rock looks to have a big future, he has won 5 from his 7 career starts and ran a sensational 29.44 here last week from box 3, he has to be our top selection. Litter mate Alfieri gave chase and ran a gallant 2nd he is well boxed in this and is the main danger again. Bailey Rocks and Spring Sniper are smart youngsters and can run into the placings. Box Up 1.4.6.8.

Race 9  - This is a 600m and Max Jake is a lot better than his last 2 suggest, he has broken the 35 here in the past and normally has handy box manners. Ashom Monelli loves this trip and has won 4 from 8 here, the small field will be a huge benefit and is my top pick. Box Up 1.2.4.6.

Race 10 - I like a newcomer in this with Winsome Bailey down in box 2, he has 1 win from 10 outings and has 2 placings by his name, the EX NSW performer is in the leading Rasmussen kennel and hasn’t raced since late January he looks a big chance in a very open affair. Winsome Dylan made good ground on his debut last week when 2nd in handy time, he only needs to improve his box manners to go close. Box Up 1.2.4.5.

Race 11 - It’s a tough race to go home on and my pick is Double That out in box 7, he has mixed form of late but this is a wide open affair with a heap of chances. Gemtree Ablaze and Victa Suzie can improve. Box Up 1.3.7.8.

PURE WHITE EVIL SHOOTING FOR BIG BONUSES AT MOUNT GAMBIER

GRSA introduced a couple of bonuses to link both the Murray Bridge Cup series and Mount Gambier Cup series this year. Victorian trainer Andrew Paraskevas is the only trainer with a greyhound still eligible to collect a bonus after his brilliant speedster Eye Got It won the Murray Bridge Cup final last Sunday night. If Pure White Evil can win his heat (race 8) on Sunday and then take out the final, Andrew will collect a $5,000 trainer bonus for his efforts.

REPAIRS TO GUTTERS ON ADELAIDE ROAD BY COUNCIL HAVE STARTED

GRSA was advised that the City of Port Adelaide Enfield Council will be commencing road works from 25/2/19 to 25/3/19 to repair curb and gutters. This will affect Adelaide Road and likely participants, staff and patrons accessing the Angle Park venue. There may be road closures, traffic delays etc during this time.

COME ON ENZO MOVES INTO TOP 8 FOR THE “SA EASTAR”

On Monday night Come On Enzo trained by Lauren Harris made a big jump in the standings for the Eastar after the son of Fernando Bale and Come On Luann ran a blistering time at headquarters. He ran 29.61 for the 515m journey elevating him from 17 last week to number 6 this week and putting him right in the mix for our feature match race series over Easter.

The “SA Eastar” will be held on Thursday night, 18th April (Easter) at Angle Park.  Eligibility for South Australian local greyhounds will be based around the Nationals conditions. They will need to be trained in SA 76 days out of the last 150 prior to the close of nominations. Selection for this series will only be based around winning times at Angle Park. For greyhounds that have run over the 515m at any Angle Park meeting since 1st December, 2018 their fastest winning time will be recognised and put them on the list for selection. TRIALLING FOR GAWLER AND MURRAY BRIDGE TO SWAP IN LATE MARCH

With Gawler and Murray Bridge swapping Friday and Sunday for racing later this month it is also necessary to swap trial days.  Therefore, Murray Bridge will trial on Thursday morning, 28th March and Gawler will trial on Friday morning, 29th March.

CLAIMING RACE CONDITIONS IN A DIFFERENT FORMAT

Unfortunately there has been a lack of support for Claiming Races over the last 12 months however at the last ICG meeting it was proposed that greyhounds engaged in a race meeting may be considered to be claimed. Connections will need to advise under similar conditions of the Claiming events but rather than a race for these greyhounds there will be a list in the race book highlighting which greyhounds can be claimed.

GRSA has finalised the conditions and paperwork is now available at GRSA and on the website. Connections will now have that option available to them for their greyhound to be claimed with it listed in the race book. Please ensure all forms are competed.

GRSA TRIALING SCHEDULE UPDATED

  • Murray Bridge from 6pm Tuesday and 9am Friday. STAT and Qualys once a month to be run at 6.50pm – 7.15pm the same as Angle Park. Dates will be Tuesday 5/3/19, 2/4/19, 14/5/19, 11/6/19.
