TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

The highlight of tonight’s programme is the running of the 2019 SA St Leger Final (race 8), the quality of this field is top class and it certainly appears a good betting affair as there are a heap of chances. It’s interesting that 3 trainers have multiple runners in the final. The kennel to follow tonight looks to be the powerful Rasmussen team and as usual all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - We tipped Alicante Bouchet here last week but she stumbled on box rise and was never a threat, she has drawn well tonight and we should expect a sharp improvement. Zipping Maisy has early pace and is a must for our Trifecta along with the inform Go Brandi. Box Up 1.4.7.8.

Race 2 - This is the Maiden event of the night and the 2 main chances look to be Legendary Lao and the pacey Emmy Gray, both have been placed in their early career so they should be there about in the final stages. Box Up 1.2.4.8.

Race 3 - There are a few tardy beginners in this event so we will go with Blastoise in box 4, he has been placed at his last 3 runs here and look the likely leader. Larrikin Locky has been hit and miss of late but should improve from his rails draw along with the newcomer Waterloo Monelli who has been well travelled of late with runs in WA and Victoria. Box Up 1.2.3.4.

Race 4 - Little Biddy won here 2 runs back in a quick 29.93 and is drawn for a bold showing. Dance And Sing and another newcomer from N.S.W in Diamond Heart look to be next best. Box Up 1.2.6.7.

Race 5 - This is a wide open affair so it makes for a terrific First Four betting race, Double That is very smart when on the lure and should be hard to beat from his draw. Spring Cuervo and Sway Bars love to run into the placings, add Fly By Them who can handle the wide draws and is my top selection. Box Up 2.3.4.7.

Race 6 - Ebby Lamar has been very consistent of late with 4 placings and a win at his last 5 runs, he has good box manners and despite his middle draw should go very close. Max Shake wins have been few and far between at this venue but he is strong and is a must for the Trifecta. Box Up 2.5.6.8.

Race 7 - The Kevin Murnane trained Westside Nippa again proved to strong when winning here last start in a smart 29.74 from box 4, she has now won her past 3 here all in quality times and is drawn for a bold showing again. Sarina Monelli and Ritzy Chicki are next best. Box Up 1.3.4.7.

Race 8 - This is the 2019 St Leger Final and with over $7,000 to the winner this is certainly a top quality field. Victa Ashley scorched the track with a B.O.N 29.55 beating Shimando in the heats last week and is trained by the astute Michael Giniotis, he should start the punters elect on that gallop. Shima Mart found early trouble and flew late from box 7 here last week, he was the eye catching run for mine and should be the BIG improver. Kennel mates Love Made Me and Premier Double can run into the placings. Box Up 1.2.4.5.

Race 9 - This is the 600m of the night and we will stick with Destini Rocket who won for us at her last start over this trip at the juicy odds of 14/1, she loves a wide draw and can go very close again. Crackerjack Jake is worth putting in our First Four on recent efforts as is Phil’s Green who is drawn for a bold showing. Box Up 1.2.7.8.

Race 10 - I like one in this at handy odds and that is Big Col Prosser out in box 6, he has been placed at his last 5 runs here and with a vacant box on his inside might be able to lead. Black Antico ran home well to score here last start in 29.87 and should be working home well again, add Come Home and Spring Kuda for the minors. Box Up 2.4.6.7

Race 11 - Lonnie Knight improved his box manners here last start when 2nd behind Fantastic Hope, he had been missing the kick prior and is a big chance if he comes out running in this. Zinnia Monelli is drawn to run a cheeky race as is Rocca Jet who is in the inform Jessup kennel. Box Up 1.2.3.7.

2019 SA ST LEGER FINAL TONIGHT

There were three fantastic heats conducted last week at Angle Park where greyhounds qualified for tonight’s prestigious 2019 SA St Leger final worth $10,710 which is race 8 on tonight’s program.

The first heat was taken out by the Kirin Corby trained Red Rock who ran 29.99 for the 515m journey with splits of 4.51 and 17.28. The second heat was taken out in sensational fashion by Victa Ashley for trainer Mike Giniotis in 29.55 with splits of 4.41 and 16.65. The third and final heat saw Love Made Me for Troy Murray, run a 29.74 with splits of 4.51 and 17.14.

Its shaping as a super race tonight for some of our most promising young chasers who will hopefully take the next step into open company in the coming months. Good luck to all connections concerned.

IMPORTANT CHANGE TO NOMINATION PROCESS AND RACE MEETING COMPOSITION
(To take effect from February 11)

GRSA has a fundamental responsibility to manage weekly nominations and the scheduling of meetings in a manner which is responsive to the environment in which we operate and that best serves the interests of our local participants.  In noting the frequency with which nominations for race meetings are being extended – particularly during the summer months – and having regard for current supply pressures, the Racing Department will be adopting a new approach to race meeting composition from Monday, February 11.

For all meetings, other than for extraordinary circumstances, each timeslot will be afforded ONE extension of nominations period only.  The table below summarises the current standard closing times for meeting nominations and the final closing time that will apply from February 11.
In the event that the standard nominations closing time changes (due to Public Holiday, for example) the Racing Department will notify of that change via text and Industry Facebook.

Additionally, the priority for the Racing Department in constructing a race meeting will be to prioritise the number of races conducted over average field size.  To the extent that some smaller field sizes need to be drawn – noting that a standard minimum of six runners will apply – to meet that objective, that is the approach that will be adopted.  Exceptions to the minimum field size may apply in some instances such as for Thursday night staying events, match races, mixed higher grade events, time grading or to accommodate specific feature race requirements.

GRADE 6 CONDITIONS TO CHANGE DUE TO MONDAY NIGHT 388M - FROM 10TH FEBRUARY 2019

For meetings graded from 10th February, 2019 (first meeting affected will be Monday, 18th February) all greyhounds will use their City B grade and not APD Wednesday grade. There will be no retrospective grading for meetings graded from 10th February, 2019. So what grade your greyhound is at that time is what it will be going forward. Prizemoney will be short course City B money and winning greyhounds will take a penalty to be consistent with other meetings.

With 388m now considered on a Monday night (City B) the grading guidelines will also be changed (see below) to have consistency with our tracks. The main change is City A Thursday stands alone with winning only one Grade 6 event and also if you win a Grade 5 event you lose all Grade 6’s everywhere which has been in for some time. City B Monday night will now be considered for meetings graded from 10th February, 2019 like Gawler where you could win two Grade 6’s as part of your 4 (Non SA Bred) or 12 (SA Bred). This means, on a Monday greyhounds can win a 388m and then a 515m or a 600m and 515m. Please contact the Grader for further clarification if required.

UPDATE TO PATHWAY AND TIME GRADING TIME STANDARDS (Inclusion of Murray Bridge)

The GRSA Racing Department wishes to advise of an update to the time standards for both Time Grading and Pathway Racing. This update allows for the inclusion of Murray Bridge, following three months of racing at the venue and the subsequent evaluation of times being recorded. The changes will be implemented with immediate effect.

The Murray Bridge time standards will be subject to ongoing review to ensure they are consistent with the time standards from the other SA tracks.

PATHWAY TIME STANDARDS

REPAIRS TO GUTTERS ON ADELAIDE ROAD BY COUNCIL STARTING NEXT WEEK

GRSA has been advised that the City of Port Adelaide Enfield Council will be commencing road works from 25/2/19 to 25/3/19 to repair curb and gutters. This will affect Adelaide Road and likely participants, staff and patrons accessing the Angle Park venue. There may be road closures, traffic delays etc during this time.
